You clearly miss the point of the White Stripes To play poorly and make millions? I'd like to see any 6 month vet of the guitar play Ball and a Biscuit. Jack White's minimilistic style is just ironic because he's actually a fantastic Blues and Rock guitarist. Exactly. The point is they sound like anyone who plugs in in the garage and cranks it to 11. You call it "sloppy", I call it "not processed through ProTools 173 times before going on the CD" Trust me, I'm as big a critic on over-produced crap as anybody, but the White Stripes just play POORLY. There's no other word for it. Here's an analogy - the White Stripes are the Neifi Perez of music. They don't play at a professional level, yet are rewarded with millions of dollars for that mediocrity. i'm sorry, you must not understand art. it's a style of playing, that they do on purpose. it's called minimalism. de stilj? yeah, that's an art form, not just the name of one of their albums. very few musicians could make as complete albums as the white stripes do with the amount of instruments they use and the technology they employ. elephant was recorded completely without the use of computers. give me ONE other band on a major label that sells those types of units in the last 20 years that's done that. the drumming is on PURPOSE. i don't get people that can't wrap their heads around that. that's not a bass line on seven nation army. I know that it's done on purpose. My point isn't that they're not good musicians, only that they play VERY poorly, and make money off it. Their whole gimmick is not playing well. You can call it minimalism or art if you want to, but it's still lack of effort/talent shown that sets them apart from other acts. I've got my head wrapped around that they play poorly on purpose, but that's what upsets me. They don't play well and people love that about them, how does that make sense? They're duping their fans into shelling out big bucks to pay for their sloppily thrown together tracks in the name of art.
