  1. If you believe most of the rumors, disheartening and painful.
  2. Baseball America's latest blog posts seem to think that Vitters is going to fall to #3, and if he does, that the Cubs would take him over Parker. And the one right after that says that the Cubs and Parker were trying to work out a predraft deal for 2.35 mil.
  3. The Cubs have had a very poor track record when it comes to drafting high school hitters... but more importantly, the Cubs have a need at catcher, and also have a need for high-OBP players. Wieters is a polished college bat who fills both those needs. That's the bigger reason why I'd hate drafting Vitters or Moustakas. Oh I agree, I want Wieters, I am just not as negative on high schoolers as you are. High school hitters do sometimes pan out too, and I do like the fact that Wilken is doing the picking. If he wants Vitters, then I am going to give him the benefit of the doubt to the point where I will wait a couple years to see how he turns out. If memory serves, the last study I read said that high school hitters, college pitchers, and college hitters all enjoyed about the same average value over the course of the time the team controlled them. High school pitchers were much worse off, and flamed out at a much higher rate. That, in a nutshell, is why I don't want Parker, or Porcello, or Bumgarner, or Aumont, or Smoker, or Harvey, or Beavan... unless of course one of them slips to us with our supplemental pick (not bloody likely)
  4. Honestly, I think we could plug Wieters straight in as our backup catcher and he'd outperform Blanco. He's the one prospect outside of Price in this draft that I feel is about as close to no risk (read: exposing to the Cubs farm system) as they come. (No Casey Weathers talk... that would be a bigger overdraft at number 3 than Matt Bush was)
  5. I think they are strongly leaning towards Vitters, but I just don't think its set in stone yet. Sadly, I see the Cubs brass split between Parker and Vitters. Rumor has it Porcello is asking for way more than the Royals are going to spend, and they're leaning towards taking Vitters now... which leaves us with a damn high school pitcher.
  6. I'd LOVE Parker. It's not like he's a bad choice, but right now I'd much rather look for an impact bat. We have almost nothing in the system as far as position players are concerned now that Pie is up and EPatt isn't looking like he can stick at 2nd. And considering all the potential impact bats available (Wieters, Vitters, Heyward, Moustakas) it just doesn't seem to fit. Besides, I'm just not too keen on a small fireballing high school pitcher... I like draft picks with arms likely to stay connected.
  7. It looks more and more in these later hours like we're going to end up with Parker... a decision I am very upset about.
  8. Good Luck. Good luck. Thanks guys! I'd wish you luck, but then there might be less available for me.
  9. He's working in the mid 90's today... looking real good. He doesn't appear to be short-arming the ball as much as he did before.
  10. Please let it be Izturis. If Z would punch Izturis everyday, it would make his crappy games much more bearable too. Seriously now, if we kept Izturis on the 25 man and paid him 4.15 mil to be Zambrano's punching bag and absolutely nothing more than an emergency replacement, I'd say that'd be money well spent.
  11. It's not a big deal until you hear "sprained ACL" or "sprained MCL." Yes. I sprained my MCL last summer and it took about 4-6 weeks to get back to an adequate level of performance. Even then I wasn't 100%. Yeah, I had a partial tear through the ACL. I was gimpy for a loooong time.
  12. I've had more knee problems than I can count. Just using ice and painkillers, I used to be able to play football again the day after a sprain. I did miss a grand total of two days with a very severe sprain once, though. Baseball players don't tend to play through pain as well as football players though. At the same time, they don't have to use their knees near so much as football players. Aramis could probably play hobbled tomorrow and not exacerbate it. If he takes 1-2 days off, he'll be at 90-95%.

  15. Are Cubs players ever really just day to day? Vin Scully said this back in 91. "Andre Dawson has a bruised knee and is listed as day-to-day (pause). Aren't we all?"
  16. No. Why not, he always gets on a base. Soriano doesn't get hot til late in the game. you are confusing me. Pie gets hits early in the game. Soriano waits til late in the game to get his hits. At least that is what I have noticed. I would rather have Pie in the leadoff spot. For his career, Soriano hits: .297/.350/.527 in innings 1-3 .282/.326/.538 in innings 4-6 .281/.331/.476 in innings 7-9 What is Pie hitting? .316/.316/.421 in innings 1-3 .438/.438/.875 in innings 4-6 .077/.111/.077 in innings 7-9 Then again, Pie only has about 20 PA in each slot, so you can't take too much from his numbers. Uh-oh. Looks like he may be ANTI-CLUTCH. Jeromy Burnitz all over again. Pie gets sick during innings 7-9. Well a lot of that is coming in to PH against a team's best relievers... it's hardly unexpected for a rookie to struggle in that situation.
  17. He seemed like a genuinely nice guy... unfortunately he was more suited to giving ballpark tours than playing ball.

  20. Who do we have that can play the infield, besides who's playing now? Barrett could move to 3B for a while in an emergency, same with Soriano to 2B, but I don't see either happening.
  21. The first time that sentence has ever been used in history Macier Izturis has 2 AB out of the cleanup spot.
  22. No. He doesn't get on base that much and his power would be less useful out of the leadoff spot. And not even to dignify talk of his speed being useful there, but he doesn't steal bases at a good enough rate that we should be sending him at all.
  23. None of us care about your health. EAT! I'm out of nuggets, and I only have about $200 on me. I don't know how many nuggets that buys... It buys enough for you to eat us to a division title. FWIW, I will be buying nuggets before each game until we lose. Are they Wendy's nuggets? Those are the best. Yeah, they are... but I got out of class just as the game was starting and McDonalds was much much closer. Edit: That was worded badly. Wendy's nuggets = best, but I have McD's.
