  1. Is anyone else concerned that Bradley couldn't handle deal with the media for a major market team? This is the same media that goes overboard against Ramirez for supposedly not hustling enough. As long as we've got Mike Fontenot around to free up DeRosa to cover RF once in a while, we can absorb a couple suspensions and a trip to the DL.
  2. Yeah, I think he did, but I was too lazy to bump it. :-$ By all means, post Cubs rumors in here too. I was just following the format of previous years rumor threads. There's no need to be rude about it.
  3. Edit: Misread that one. What would happen if we locked Tim Tebow and Stephen Drew in a room together and let them duke it out?
  4. Someone named Gerry Fraley wrote this: I think he misunderstood what Rosenthal acutally wrote. Excellent detective work!
  5. LOL...WUT? He very obviously did extremely well in the Aramis, Lee, Nomar, and Harden trades. Z, Aramis, and Lee also signed long-term extensions for far less than they could have gotten on the open market. Dempster probably signed for less than he could have gotten on the open market (not that it makes it a good contract, but still). Fukudome signed for less than the top offer. Soriano and Marquis are the only significant contracts he's signed that have been above market rate. And the only trade where he obviously gave up too much was the one for Juan Pierre. Hendry is a good negotiator. I certainly don't agree with all of his moves, but he acquits himself well when players or GMs are sitting across the table from him.
  6. Unless I'm mistaken, he's referring to them as the third team in the same vein that the Oriole's have been referred to it as... simply as a facilitator.
  7. Eyre and Lou hated each other before Lou even started here. Eyre was mad Dusty left, since Dusty didn't make him run wind sprints.
  8. Pretty good deal for the Tigers. They are getting cheaper and younger at both SS and C That's a very optimistic way of describing the difference between Renteria and Everett. From 34 to 32 year old is not exactly a youth movement when you consider how bad Everett is at staying on the field since he turned 30. He snapped his leg in a freak accident.
  9. And most all of it is going to require multi-year deals. If I need a league average pitcher, I'd much prefer one on a one year deal rather than locking a league average guy down for 3-4 years.
  10. Hendry is damn good at acquiring the players he sets his sights on... usually at a low cost (whether in terms of money/years or talent). He's not so good at picking which players to set his sights on.
  11. Gordon was a 2B back around WW2. His case for the HoF is marginal unless you give him credit for missing two seasons for WW2, in which case he definitely deserves it.
  12. Mike Schmidt Eddie Mathews George Brett Wade Boggs Brooks Robinson Jimmy Collins Frank Baker Freddie Lindstrom Pie Traynor George Kell Four certain HoF 3B. One decent guy (Brooks), and 5 guys that don't hold a candle to Ron. When you're top 5 or 6 all-time at your position, you probably deserve in the HoF.
  13. Morgan said that everyone feels like someone should be in the HOF, but they can't agree on who. I think they said something like each veteran voted for an average of 3.3 people, but no one came out with the requisite 75%. I think what they should do is instead of voting separately, they should all meet, and discuss the merits 1 by 1 of each player, and then vote for someone. I mean its a committee, and theres only 10 players on the ballot to discuss, it shouldn't be that hard. Scheduling 64 people to go to the same meeting wouldn't be easy. Even if you did it as a conference call, you're casting 640 votes... that's gonna take all day.
  14. The sad thing is, you know Ron gets voted in at the first chance posthumously. Why wont those assholes just let him enjoy it?
  15. The article up on mlb.com says that Joe Gordon was the only one elected from two separate committees.
  16. I freaking hate ESPN. "BREAKING NEWS!!! Timberwolves fire head coach" Who gives a rat's ass?
  17. ~3 minutes Cross your fingers, and throw up a little prayer, folks.

  20. Do any Pittsburgh hospitals have group rates?
