    And most all of it is going to require multi-year deals. If I need a league average pitcher, I'd much prefer one on a one year deal rather than locking a league average guy down for 3-4 years.

    Hendry is damn good at acquiring the players he sets his sights on... usually at a low cost (whether in terms of money/years or talent). He's not so good at picking which players to set his sights on.

    Gordon was a 2B back around WW2. His case for the HoF is marginal unless you give him credit for missing two seasons for WW2, in which case he definitely deserves it.

    Mike Schmidt Eddie Mathews George Brett Wade Boggs Brooks Robinson Jimmy Collins Frank Baker Freddie Lindstrom Pie Traynor George Kell Four certain HoF 3B. One decent guy (Brooks), and 5 guys that don't hold a candle to Ron. When you're top 5 or 6 all-time at your position, you probably deserve in the HoF.

    Morgan said that everyone feels like someone should be in the HOF, but they can't agree on who. I think they said something like each veteran voted for an average of 3.3 people, but no one came out with the requisite 75%. I think what they should do is instead of voting separately, they should all meet, and discuss the merits 1 by 1 of each player, and then vote for someone. I mean its a committee, and theres only 10 players on the ballot to discuss, it shouldn't be that hard. Scheduling 64 people to go to the same meeting wouldn't be easy. Even if you did it as a conference call, you're casting 640 votes... that's gonna take all day.

    The sad thing is, you know Ron gets voted in at the first chance posthumously. Why wont those assholes just let him enjoy it?

    I just find it hard to believe that Kevin Towers would prefer Olson to Pie... we know that Towers has tried to get Pie from Hendry multiple times in the past. We know that SD needs a CF with huge range very badly. Something tells me that if he's willing to let Pie head to Baltimore, they're sending more than Olson back in exchange.

    Hey Bruce, where are you staying at out in Vegas? My parents are gonna be out there and were wondering where to go if they wanted to catch a few marginal big-leaguers trying to sell themselves to the GMs.

    I haven't , but I've heard it is good. Plus, it has Santo on the cover IIRC, and that's pretty badass. Yeah, I was walking through Borders tonight and saw him on the cover of the book. Decided to pick it up. I'll let you know how it is.
