  1. There was about a 10% chance to get the runner at home. There was about similarly low chance to turn two. You can't pin this one on Theriot... 90% of the time the game is over when he picks it up there... no matter which play he tries to make.
  2. Soriano isn't a defensive liability. The best move for the team is probably to pull Bradley and move Fukudome to right... if you absolutely feel the need to use a defensive replacement. I wouldn't. I didnt understand the point to begin with. Is Gathright even a good enough outfielder to warrant the move 2 games in a row? No, he's not. He's above average, but this is nowhere close to last season where we had Edmonds (bad CF), and Pie (amazing CF). The only reason to bring him in as a defensive replacement is to help alleviate some of the strain on our perpetual injury concerns in Bradley and Soriano... Fukudome should never be getting the hook for defense. And Reed Johnson should never, ever be a defensive replacement for anybody other than Micah Hoffpaiur.
  3. The problem is, fans live in the now. They don't look at the big picture, they just look at whats happening right now, and if something isn't working right now, they want it fixed. If we could all only calm down and look at the bigger picture, which part of it is...its been 4 games!!...we would all be better off. But since we don't, we see Lee slumping and we want to DFA him or something. Lee's been bad for more than 4 games though. Lee's been bad since about month 3 last year. Lee is a real concern. And before that, he was looking like the DLee of old. Considering I read an article lately where he claimed to have been battling nagging injuries all through the second half of last year, I don't see a problem with taking a deep breath and acting rationally.

  5. the outfielder - soriano - got a bad jump on a routine fly ball. you're ripping a shortstop for not making a catch on a lazy fly ball to left field. Sori didn't get a bad jump. He was badly positioned... which is more the fault of the coaching staff and Lou.
  6. attempt to start a double play with his poor arm when braun has pretty good speed, hit the ball to the third base side of SS and didn't hit it particularly hard? if they'd tried to turn the DP braun would've been safe by a step and a half and you'd be here bitching that theriot didn't throw home. I would have supported the higher percentage play, which in this instance would have been trying to turn two. Braun doesn't have good speed, and he's running from the 3rd base side of the bag. If you arm sucks, it stands to reason maybe he should make the shorter throw. Except Braun does have good speed. Not Ichiro speed or anything, but there was a lower chance of Theriot turning two than getting Weeks at home. Theriot made the right call at the end of the game there... and even if you don't believe it was the right call, to pretend it isn't easily defensible is dishonest.
  7. Yeah, not to mention the bullpen probably looked worse then than now. An excellent point. Woody blew his first save against the Brewers too.
  8. After four games last season: Geovany Soto - 2 for 12, 3 walks Aramis Ramirez - 2 for 13, 3 walk Alfonso Soriano - 1 for 17, 1 walk Calm down you crazy bastards.
  9. more so than you probably think. Are you Mike North? Cause that'd explain a lot.
  10. I'm fairly confident that will be asked Every day, pal, every day. Next question. Will you come to my birthday party?
  11. Seriously... we could have had Freddi Gonzalez. He reads sabermetric books, and worked under Bobby Cox his entire career.
  12. Oh, great. Not only did he choose Miles to bat... but he asked him to hit and run, which is a horrible percentage play.
  13. Please get Gooz and Gregg warm... and let Vizcaino rot.
  14. Aaron Miles is 1 for 6 with 1k off Coffey in his career. Anybody else have any bright ideas why he'd choose Miles?
  15. Aaron Miles? Are you [expletive] kidding?
  16. theresben a hell of alot worse called strikes today Not debating that he hasn't made other mistakes. And I certainly wouldn't have minded seeing one there.
  17. That was a ball. It could have been called a strike, but it would have been a mistake.
  18. I don't know. He just doesn't seem to be able to get any lift on the ball any more. These balls that he's rolling over to SS are pitches he used to drive into the gaps on a consistent basis. In the first four games this year that doesn't seem to look any different from last year. I hope you're right, but I really have no confidence in him anymore. Four games does not a season make. Have faith. Remember, for all the bitching about his offense last year, his EqA last year was .279... with major league average first baseman at .283. Average with the bat and plus defensive value... and he's still got some upside to return to form. At the very least, his walk rate is almost a lock to rebound a bit. I hope you're right. Until he figures it out though, I'd still prefer him to be lower in the order. I wouldn't have a problem with that either. for that matter, leave him lower in the order even after he figures it out. He probably belongs down in the 5-7 area. What I do have a problem with is the absurd rallying against such a classy guy while he still maintains value to the team. Some people need to control their urge to bitch. (Not directed at you, Butters)
  19. What are you going to bitch about when DLee starts hitting again? you actually think that's going to happen? I think he'll be a .825 to .850 OPS guy with subpar range at first but great receiving skills. Pretty much the same guy he was last year... overpaid, but couldn't be much less of a problem to this team. What I am convinced that will change are the absurd GIDP tendencies he showed last year that were completely out of whack with his career numbers. I don't know. 21. Absolutely yes. Hill can be above average for a backup catcher... Bako wouldn't be above average with the bat in AA.

  23. Nice to see him stay in there and drive it to left, rather than getting out ahead of the plate and just trying to flick the ball that direction.
  24. Seriously, wtf is that thing? Nightmare fuel. probably the best response possible for this. That's why I said it, duh. excuse to bump it further into the thread>
