  1. I've been on the 'Let's let Pie develop in the minors as long as need be' bandwagon, but with guns like those it makes it hard to stay on.
  2. All you need is iTunes. Cool. My phone has iTunes. They have iTunes on phones now? http://www.gadgetizer.com/images/rokritunes.jpg The new Motorola SLVR also has iTunes on it. Which Cubs podcasts do people here favor?
  3. I refrained from looking at this thread b/c I wanted to take as many in at one time as possible. That was awesome - 19 pages of spring training pics.
  4. In general Dusty's quotes about Murton were good to hear. Even his quote about having to give Murton a chance was good to hear - a supportive quote from a manager who hasn't been known to give young players much of a chance.
  5. I suspect that wouldn't even be close to the truth. The vast majority? Wrigley isn't that nice. If that's all people wanted they could go to an actual beer garden with better prices and selection. Since I moved from Chicago to New York 2 years back, the few times I've been to Wrigley there seemed to be a lot more a) corporate people there taking the afternoon off and b) 20-30 year olds drinking it up and not really paying attention to the game. You're right about them probably not being in the majority - my anger toward them probably is causing me to notice them more so.
  6. While I expect for the vast majority of posters here the answer is the Cubs, I would expect for the majority of Wrigley Field attendees at any given game the answer is Wrigley, if they answered honestly.
  7. I'm glad to see Zambrano, Williams, and Maddux coming into camp in better shape. Maddux has pitched well post ASB break the last few years, and Zambrano and Williams did the same last year. I wonder how much of that was the effect of them 'pitching themselves into shape.'
  8. Agreed. As much as I despise A-Rod like the plague, he's by far a better player than Jeter, even in the playoffs.
  9. Depends on the price and how he looks this year. If he can pitch 200+ IP at near to sub-4 ERA in 2006, I definitely be for signing him for another year at $6M, although I imagine he'd want something closer to the $9M he'll make this year after that type of performance.
  10. He had a 4.24 ERA last year, but he was a bit unlucky (according to Hardball Times defense-independent numbers). If he's in better shape this year, I expect a high 3 to low 4 ERA out of Maddux.
  11. Meant to pass this info on earlier - they drove us from the hotel to the Detroit auto show in the new Escalades and Tahoes, and GM did a great job improving the interiors on both vehicles. I've heard the one knock people had on the older versions is the interiors appeared a little cheap - GM definitely axed that problem with the 07s.
  12. I don't think we can pencil in 200 innings for either Wood or Miller, so Williams definitely has a spot in the starting rotation.
  13. I'll go down as saying there's no way either of them put up those numbers. I'll second that. I'd imagine people here would be happy with .330-.340 OBP out of those two over the course of 2006. A .380 OBP for Murton and I'll be all over that bandwagon.
  14. I went to the Detroit one, and this is what I found interesting: - The new Infiniti Coupe and its styling. Looks to be the next generation of the G Coupe. - People looking at the new Nissan Sentra (Nissan's only major rollout this year) versus people looking the new Honda Civic - The number of concept vehicles Toyota had - The new Lexus LS460 ---> the 7-Series and S-Class killer - The new Vette (just lovely) - Chevy Camaro concept - Chrysler Imperial, and how it makes the current Chrysler 300C look like a kids car - Porsche Cayman, a throwback to a rough-and-tough back-to-the-basics sports car for Porsche Cool and thanks! We usually don't gt all the bells and whistles that Detroit gets but it is always a very good one. Did you see the Nissan Versa? I always get sticker shock when I go to these things. I really need to find out if the F150 Crew can hold my family as my Super Cab is getting a little tight. The Nissan Versa was there, and was a bit of a letdown in all honesty. The Honda Civic stole the show in terms of the small-car segment.
  15. I haven't been paying attention as closely as I would like. Is it this one? That's the one. Here's a link to some more pics: Link Interesting tidbit about the Camaro concept: Apparently there was a different version of the Camaro concept. Wagoner saw this at the 11th hour before the Detroit auto show, axed it, and demanded a more aggressive-looking vehicle. Link
  16. Mad River on the UES was a good place to catch all the Bears games - I'm sure you can grab Cubs games there, especially on the weekends.

  18. I'd be surprised if Dusty puts Cedeno and Murton 1-2 with the Juan Pierre signing. Todd Walker has proved that he can get on base at a decent clip throughout his career, while Murton and Cedeno have gotten only a smattering of PAs. Give me Walker at the 2-spot over Murton or Cedeno or Murton for the time being. That being said I'd love to see all three in the lineup. The one thing peopel seem to conveniently forget around here is Walker's lack of speed. This doesn't just hurt on the basepaths, but on DP balls as well. I know the stathounds will chime in and say "you can't possibly tabulate all those runs", but the extra 1st to thirds, SBs, scoring from 1st or 2nds, fewer DPs, scoring from third on balls in play HAVE to count for something. I concede it can't be tabulated, but I don't think its too far fethced to say Murton or Cedeno could net at least 30 extra bases from such opportunities. While not trying to take away from Todd, this does somewhat narrow the discrency in OBP. There are just so many things to take into account in baseball that stats can't even quantify. It's up to fans like us to try to disseminate the difference, and that can be tricky, at best. Would those presumed extra bases compensate for the lower OBP you would get with whoever would replace Walker?

  20. I'd rather drive an EVO, STI, or an R32 than a SRT-4. And you'd likely be eating the Neon's dust. 2006 EVO - 286 HP with AWD 2006 STI - 300 HP with AWD 2004 R32 - 237 HP with AWD 2005 SRT-4 - 230 HP with FWD How? Evo - 0-60 mph: 5.3 sec, $28,987 STI - 0-60 mph: 4.9 sec, $30,995 R32 - 0-60 mph: 5.9 sec, $29,675 SRT-4 - 0-60 mph: 5.3 sec, $20,995 Most EVO VIII runs I've seen have put them at mid 4's on 0-60. Evo VIII STi SRT-4
  21. He'll look even more like Matthew Broderick now.
  22. Agreed. He's never been a good defensive catcher, and with his body not holding up anymore he would best be used in the AL.
  23. Give Kobe and LeBron the exact same 11 supporting players, playing the exact same 82 game schedule. Whose team ends the season with more wins?
  24. Prior's injury for two reasons. 1) Up until that point, Prior had started eight games, and had quality starts in seven of them. He looked like the Prior of 2003. 2) It caused people to start unfairly labeling him 'injury-prone.'
  25. If the question is over the past 20 years, then I take MJ. If the question is over my entire lifetime would I have rather had MJ on the Bulls or a Cubs WS, I take the Cubs WS.
