  1. Thanks! I can't even remember who what's-his-name is, go RICH HILL!
  2. Did they say the injury? That stinks.
  3. He played in 157 games last year. He's a slow runner. Even when he's hustling, he's as slow as molasses. Plenty of speedy guys have hurt themselves running to first base. Corey Patterson's ACL injury was awkwardly hitting first base. Aramis has been running and hustling and getting on down as far as I can tell this season. I hate to see this tweak / strain / hopefully not an injury being played up as some sort of hustling issue. I just want Aramis to hit the hell out of a baseball and field his position adequately, and he's done both just fine so far. I think he's by far the most under-rated player on the team.
  4. Well, at least you feel at home. :)
  5. are you flirting with me? I hope not, we'd have to open up yet another forum.
  6. Hopefully Cedeno told him to hold on to it. It takes a mighty long time to have one shipped to Chicago if he needs it later.
  7. xm
  8. Thanks, Raisin. I couldn't remember the details. Did you get a buzzcut earlier today?
  9. This doesn't make sense. If, in three years, Sean (who has had about 3/4 of a season at AA) isn't ready to stick on the big league roster, then I don't think it's a big concern. I'm not much of a roster / options / arby clock etc guru, but I thought that the changes to the CBA last year allowed clubs to extend the time they owned players' rights an extra year and two years for players who were drafted at age 18 or younger (as Sean was in '04). Am I thinking of something else? BTW, Raisin was convinced Gallagher would see MLB action before September callups this year (predicted at the end of last season).
  10. Gallagher! Congrats to him & his family! I'm usually not a huge fan of having young starting pitchers brought up and slotted for long relief, given the sporadic usage they'll get. I do think this can be a good move for Sean. He's responded well to being advanced and challenged regularly. Having met him, I can say he isn't the type to have his confidence shattered by a bad outing. I'm glad to see the confidence the organization has in him, and I'll be rooting for him. Exciting times! I hate to hear about Guzman's injury/soreness, though, and can't help but wonder if his being shuffled around so much lately contributed to it.
  11. You've been added -- welcome aboard! I'm not going to have consistent computer access for the next week, so I'd really appreciate it if people could just PM the person after them when they're due to start a thread. I've taken care of the game threads starters for today. Thanks!
  12. Welcome back, Raisin!
  13. The spot starter usually just starts one game thread, win or lose. In the past, if whoever had been up as game starter didn't care, the spot starter could go again if s/he won. I asked Derwood last night if he would start today's game thread, but it was as a spot starter for A New Era. In other words, it's all good. Maybe Derwood can be the on-call Stopper!
  14. Nate gets a shout-out from Len when he gave the Peoria update!
  15. And as I explained above, Soriano is being payed partly because he is FAST. They aren't paying Aramis to run. Part of the silliness over Aramis' purported lack of hustle was that the difference 99% of the time was his being thrown out by 3 feet or by 5 feet. Soriano's speed, on the other hand, is the difference between him being safe/out and determines which base he ends up on. BTW, Aramis has hustled every game I've seen so far. I can think of 10 occasions off the top of my head where I've wondered why Soriano was giving up on plays before he left the batters box.
  16. no yes...he jogged all the way to 1st base and slid for no reason into third. if he hustled out of the box it would've been very very interesting at home plate with a cutoff. He could have been very easily out. I have no problem with him playing it safe with a triple with 0 out. If it were infrequent, it wouldn't be a big deal. Not running is becoming an everyday thing with Soriano.
  17. It's especially infuriating with Soriano because part of the Cubs' justification for his $$ is his speed.
  18. I think he saw it bounce up and was surprised to see it not be immediately called a HR. I say that even though I haven't been a fan of his assuming HRs that actually were not HRs already this year.
  19. I only heard a bit of the game on the radio, but Pat and Ron said that Murton had been in the lineup they received pre-game, but was lifted due to a 'tight back.' *eta: too late!
  20. Winning a lifesize Z poster seems an appropriate prize.
  21. Wasn't the whole issue with moving Prior to the 60-day DL that he'd accrue MLB time if that happened? I can't remember all the permutations of Prior and MLB service time and the DL.
