  1. And, if he goes there, nobody should be surprised. The Cards are consistent winners, have an opening in OF, and have the cash to pay him. Wasn't I just hearing that St. Louis was not going to increase their budget. If that's the case, I'm not sure they have the money to spend on Giles. Besides, with the guys they have, a guy like Jacque Jones makes much more sense.
  2. Tampa will be all about pitching. Or at least they should.
  3. Look at the other parks in that division. San Fran, LA and Arizona. Arizona is a good place to hit when the lid is off. When it is not, it's not all that nice. Other than Colorado, it's not exactly a hitter's haven division.
  4. Pitching and defense, huh? HOW ABOUT OBP?
  5. Wow! Not a chance. Trading TWO guys who's values are at their lowest along with another guy who is very productive given his salary. With all of these suggestions for Cedeno to be penciled in as a starter, does anyone have any projections for him for a full season? What if he has an offensive season that looks like Patterson's past season? Can the Cubs win with that kind of everyday production? Who is his back up if that's the best he can do? Because we don't know whether he can be a plus production guy or a minus production guy, I don't think it's a good idea to pencil him in as a starter on a team that is in desperate need to improve offensively.
  6. I think we could get something of value, Patterson still has as much talent as anyone in baseball. He also has speed, and power, and youth. He could make as much as 3m this coming year. Please name a team that would be willing to pay 3m for a guy who hit .215 AVG last year and has a career OBP of .293. If you find a team willing to pay him 3m to play for them, now tell me what you think they would be willing to give up to get him? IMO, you give him away and get peanuts in return, or you keep him and hope he starts living up to his potential. Giving him away right now is giving up another guy when his value is at an all time low. Bad idea.
  7. I'm not ready to write him off just yet. He did bring back Walker. If he can get a decent lefty power hitter (with a good OBP) to fill right field, a good OBP guy to fill center that can lead off (or Furcal at SS), then I think he can address pitching and call it a good offseason.
  8. If Giles and Furcal end up somewhere other than here, guys like Williams and Hill might be needed to lure a decent production guy or two to Chicago. If those guys are needed in trade and the few arms available on the market aren't worth the expense (could be some really high bidding), then Rusch at 3m isn't a bad sign. To me, Rusch is an insurance policy. If they get someone else for the rotation or Williams doesn't need to be traded, then Rusch becomes a decent trade value at the deadline. I also think this is the reason Nomar has to be brought back. There are too many holes to fill already, therefore it makes sense to bring Nomar back as protection in the event you can't fill all of those holes.
  9. I think resigning Rusch was an alright move. He can be traded later on and he is protection in the event that Williams and/or Hill are traded for offense.
  10. Wait until you see how much more ticket prices will be, too.
  11. I'm not fond of the 12 man pitching staff. Everyone gets less work. Dusty doesn't seem to like having that many options either, as he tends to only use a couple of them.
  12. Hendry will give him 1 million more per season than any other team offers. Bank on it. Actually, I think San Diego will give him 1m more than what the Cubs are willing to offer. Bank on it.
  13. There is absolutely no reason to give up on 2006. As far as mixed emotions on Cedeno, what other emotions could we have? Neifi got all of Cedeno's playing time.
  14. Cedeno can't be traded. With Walker and Aramis in the infield (and possibly Nomar as well), Cedeno is much needed insurance. Because we really haven't a clue whether Cedeno is going to be good enough to be an everyday player, the only way you can give him a starting job is if you get a ++ offensive player (Giles) to compliment what weaknesses Cedeno may have offensively.
  15. Wasn't that the one where after he tackled him and while he was lying on top of him, he looked at the ref and held his arms out in the "I didn't do anything" gesture? Yep. That should not have been a touchdown. Clear case of holding. Then on the kickoff, the Bears got a nice run back that the officials took away for calling holding on the Bears. So, not only are these officials horrible, but their idea of a make up call is to kick the same team in the groin again.
  16. I thought Orton looked real good in the first half today. He finally started finding receivers. He is still missing big opportunities and I'm sure a lot of that has to do with gaining confidence in the pocket. The running game was too one dimensional today. Jones definitely earned every right to get a bulk of the carries, but come on. Benson needs to get more carries. If Jones gets hurt for any reason, the offense will be doomed. This is a ball control offense (as usual), but they have an explosive running back that can also catch passes out of the backfield, and they've got good receivers. They should be able to put more than a touchdown a game up offensively. Orton showed me a lot today. How did the officials miss the hold on our defensive back on the Lion's touchdown run? The guy not only mugged him, but took him down and laid on top of him. RIGHT WHERE THE PLAY WAS TAKING PLACE! I know why, the officials were busy looking for something they could call on the Bears.
  17. This is a case where no news is not good news.
  18. I heard it entirely differently. I heard it was fans of 4 different Chicago teams climbed the mountain while the Sox fan was out stealing the other 4 fans hubcaps. :D
  19. Hey BBB, you hit on something not many are talking about. Marcus Giles is an above average 2B and 2 hitter. Good OBP with some pop and just getting to his prime. I've heard there is tension between Giles and the Braves front office, - Todd Walker to ATL? If we were able to land Marcus cheaply, would Brian Giles offer us a good deal? It makes sense to me, what are your thoughts on this? I did touch on it somewhere in this forum, but I didn't say much. I haven't a clue what Atlanta would be looking for in return for Giles. If they are losing Furcal via free agency, I'm not sure they would consider losing the whole middle infield. But, they do need to make room for Marte and Betemit. I'm not sure if Walker and Williams gets it done for Atlanta. More than that could be overpaying.
  20. I have no problem if Giles' agent pounds it into Hendry's skull that Giles should be a Cub.
  21. Mitre and Rusch were better PH options off the bench than Macias.
  22. Really? I just saw that he was on the MLB.com website as someone who filed for FA. Rotoworld- Latest News Oct. 27, 2005 - 9:51 pm et Giants exercised outfielder Randy Winn's $5 million club option for 2006. The Giants plan to discuss a long-term deal with Winn, who hit a remarkable .359/.391/.680 in 231 AB after being acquired from the Mariners. His performance was a fluke, but he could continue to put up nice numbers if he hits third in front of Barry Bonds next year.
  23. Winn would have to be traded. San Fran picked up Winn's option for next year.
  24. If all I ever watched was Cub games, I would declare Javier Valentin the greatest catcher to ever play the game. Against the Cubs this year, he had 22 at bats, 4 HR's, 11 RBI's, 10 runs scored, 2 doubles, 4 walks and 12 hits. Ughh.
  25. Are you talking about the 5 spot? Because I'd classify Lee and Ramirez as at least good, and you might remember this other outfielder that did a decent job hitting for power a while back. Oops, I forgot to put lefty in that sentence. That's why I referenced McGriff and Burnitz.
