  1. I saw it and it didn't surprise me in the slightest. In fact, I thought it was hilarious. I hope everybody bunts on every at bat for the rest of the season. This pathetic team is what Hendry deserves.
  2. All the evidence YOU needed, maybe. I never read a single story where Hendry showed any interest at all in Giles. I also didn't see any Cub offers that would convince me that they were willing to offer what it would take to get him to leave San Diego. Yet, we saw all the offers made to Furcal. Why is that? I'm not willing to concede that Giles never wanted to leave San Diego. And I've given plenty of reasons for why he did stay, and not that he necessarily wanted to stay. It's all subjective, from your point of view and mine. So, we don't really have any evidence at all, do we? Other than the fact he's wearing a Padres uniform. But, that isn't really evidence at all outside of the fact that if he didn't sign the contract with the Padres when he did, he risked not being able to resign with the Padres before May 1st, and not being guaranteed a good deal or an offer from a team he wouldn't mind playing for. Unfortunately, we'll probably be talking about how nice of a fit Brian Giles would have been in RF for the 2006, 2007 and 2008 Cubs. If you don't like them and feel like commenting everytime you see them, I guess we will never end this debate. Good thing we won't ever serve on the same jury. We'd be deadlocked forever.
  3. And at the same time, I can respect anyone who didn't want him back because of injury reasons. I just think the injuries aren't because he's fragile. I think they are unfortunate, but that they can be overcome. He may be the second coming of Ken Griffey. But, we also saw what Ken Griffey did last year. Griffey was hurt at the beginning of this season, so he's a gamble as well, but for the price, I felt Nomar was worth it.
  4. They are jealous of the loyal fan base. And rightfully so. It has to be difficult to play 2nd fiddle year after year, especially when you have a better team. I hate the White Sox, but they have good reason to be jealous. Now, if they continue just going about business and putting winning season after winning season together, they'll be able to tone down that jealousy as they build strength in their own fan base. Just my opinion.
  5. I recall that we were both pretty passionate for our own opinions and we had a view rather heated discussions to show that passion. I had no reason to believe you would forget. :D
  6. Oh, so your nickname for Goony is "Anybody". Now I understand. Since your nickname for Goony is "Anybody", ignore everything I said.
  7. Since 2002 besides Womack: Delino DeShilds, Jose Hernandez, Jerry Hairston, Chris Stynes, Augie Ojeda, Ramon Martinez, Damian Jackson, Jose Macias, Neifi Perez, Rey Ordonez, Alex Gonzalez, Freddy Bynum, Enrique Wilson. The list of crap middle infielders that were not developed by the Cubs farm system, but seemed to somehow land on the Cubs radar.
  8. At least as long as your a dead pull hitter. No pun intended.
  9. It was disabled because the sheer size of the tables necessary for searching the site was completly crippling the performance of the site overall. Tim has been busy with real life projects, so he doesn't have a time frame to give us on it. Gotcha. Would archiving old posts, say 2 years or older, and getting them off the server help in making the search function, functional again? I believe they've already started doing that. At least game threads and such.
  10. I don't speak computer language, so you'll have to bear with me. And if I'm not 100% accurate, I will hope someone can correct me if I'm wrong. Part of the problem with the site crashing over and over was due in part because the amount of traffic this place was getting. By disabling the search function, we haven't had nearly the problems with the site crashing. I don't really understand how it all works, but the volume of posts, traffic and added features (like search) seems to create problems for the site. As to whether or not the search function will ever be enabled again, I don't know. I sure hope so.
  11. The Tony Womack of the lifetime .316 OBP, which is artificially inflated due to his magical season in St. Louis. I guess Enrique Wilson and Rey Ordonez were unavailable.
  12. Randall Simon is tearing up the Mexican League. .380 11hr 46rbi in 142 abs  Why is he not a DH for some team like KC?
  13. That's all I've got right now. But, it's enough for me to order up the party favors and invite all of my closest friends.
  14. I agree that he should be given some slack for not being here....but maybe he should refrain from claiming hindsight when he wasn't around to know whether it is or it isn't. I agree with the latter, but again, there's probably posters here who have fallen back to the "wish we woulda signed Nomar" camp after his recent hot streak, which would be grounds for hindsight. Hey, I offered to pay for his premium membership for 5 years if he could prove I'm speaking from the rear view mirror. Just because the search function doesn't work doesn't mean you can't scroll back a few pages to the end of '05 and see who, what where, when and why.
  15. And jumps in the harbor to save someone's life. Wait, he already did that. Well played. =D>
  16. So, that's what that busy little bee Jim Hendry has been up to. Here, all along, I thought he was looking for someone who could make the team better. Thanks, may I have another? And I'm going to assume that Jim thinks this is a tremendous deal since he didn't have to give up anyone to get Womack. In all seriousness (I hope not), I'm going to assume that Womack will be Bynum's replacement. Now that Bynum has improved his value, it's time to let him go.
  17. I love Brian Giles. Even if he never wanted to leave San Diego. Could you imagine the numbers he'd put up? San Diego's on the water Chicago's on the water. What's the difference? I would have loved to seen what he could do hitting in front of, between or behind Lee and Aramis for a full season in the little league ball parks we call the NL Central.
  18. I would agree that it's ridiculous that the discussion has gotten to this point. It probably should have been no to all of the above. My point is that you are welcome to your opinions, as I should be to mine. My point is that I should not be taken to task as speaking in HINDSIGHT when I have been clamoring for Nomar since the end of the '05 season.
  19. Do you have kids? My 14 year old step son uses WTF all the time. Mainly because I explained to him that he is not allowed to use curse words under my roof without paying rent. He doesn't have a job, therefore WTF. My 12 year old step son now knows what WTF is also. Because he asked what it meant. If they want to learn it on the streets, that's one thing. Tim, 1908 and every mod here agrees that this is to be a family board. If a 10 year old fan wants to come to this site and read everything Cubs, the parent of that child shouldn't have to deny that child that opportunity because people can't use appropriate language or subject matter when they type. It's really baffling why anyone would question the rules and guidelines on NSBB.com. By allowing an inch, people take a mile. If people didn't take a mile, maybe an inch could be allowed. But, since that isn't going to work, you don't get an inch. I probably cuss more than most of the people who visit this site. But, just because I cuss in my everyday life doesn't mean I have to write it in my posts on NSBB. Same goes for everyone else. Attempting to skirt the words with symbols or abbreviations isn't acceptable either. The mods don't get to every single thread. We also comb a lot of the threads instead of reading every word. With that said, we will miss some. Feel free to help us put a stop to the cursing. Send us a PM with directions to where it was done. We will take it from there. For those of you who do not like that this is a family friendly site, I really don't know what to tell you. We have sports writers, minor league players, coaches, etc.. visiting this site, and I'm sure the credibility of this site would go in the toilet if we allowed all the filth this angry group could muster.
  20. I love Brian Giles. Even if he never wanted to leave San Diego.
  21. Would you like a friendly wager? I'll go back and dig up all of my "re-sign Nomar" posts if you'll pay my Premium membership for the next five years for accusing me of hindsight. Come on. I double dog dare you. If I didn't have any bring back Nomar posts, I'll pay your Premium membership for the next 5 years. Oh, and if I win, you are never allowed to accuse people of hindsight ever again. I'm feeling real comfortable about this one. But, it was a double dog dare. Actually, you can ask CubsfaninCA. He and I aren't pals. He'll flat out tell you that I have wanted Nomar back since before the last out was recorded in 2005. I'm sure his memory is powerful enough to remember the long debates we had on this very topic. As far as Burnitz and Jones. They both suck. Cub fans didn't want a choice between the two. They wanted a REAL RFer. But, if we had to choose between the two, I'll take Burnitz at 1 year over Jones at 3. Whose Todd Hundley will we have to take off their hands to move Jacque Jones? It was a bad deal, period. You know what makes it okay to have a Jacque Jones in the line up? There is an answer to this question. When the rest of your line up is a cast of All Stars.
  22. Are you serious? I sort of stopped paying attention to the Cubs for the past week, aside from SportsCenter highlights and box scores in the newspaper, so I'm asking because I don't know. Did that really happen? What was thrown? And did the guy get his *** kicked by the other fans? It was a poor reaction to an action. The action was Jacque Jones getting doubled off 2nd base for the 3rd time in 2 weeks on a fly ball to left field that everyone in the stadium knew would be caught except for Jones. The poor fundamentals of late has fans in an uproar. They seem to be getting worse as time goes on. Granted, that doesn't mean people should be hurling things at players, but it doesn't surprise me that it happened. This team is awful. And people are expressing their discontent in different ways.
  23. I wouldn't have criticized Hendry for hanging onto Walker, Nomar and Patterson. Patterson as a 4th or 5th outfielder is actually not bad. But, with retaining these guys comes adding other pieces to make the whole team better. A guy like Abreu. Heck, just trade for Shawn Green and the team is better. Sure, it's easy for us to sit here and analyze how easy the job should be, but I don't think any of us really wants to be sitting here analyzing every move. What we would rather be doing is cheering for a good ball team and admiring how well of a job Hendry did of assembling the team and how well Dusty is managing the club. But, that's not happening. Not even close.
