  1. Pierre is a guy who other teams may covet enough to sign prior to the arby deadline, which would allow the Cubs to grab more draft picks. Even if the Cubs did offer arbitration, chances are good someone would give him a multi-year contract which would still give the Cubs draft picks. If he were to accept arbitration, you play him for another year in what will likely be a lost season anyway and look for opportunities to trade him and groom Pie.
  2. And before someone blasts me for comparing Cabrera to Pierre, let me state that this is not what I'm doing. I'm showing that a guy who gets on base over 40% of the time scores nearly 40% more than guys who get on base at the rate a guy like Pierre does. It's not rocket science. With that said, the more often you can get guys on base in front of your most productive hitters (Lee, Ramirez), the more runs you will score.
  3. Could you imagine this team with a $7-10m 8 hitter? I couldn't imagine this team batting him anywhere other than lead off, which will only mean more years of poor production from the heart of the order. Cubs have some of the worst OBP out of the top spots in the line up, and have had poor OBP the last several years. Hanley Ramirez and Dan Uggla in Florida are making Cabrera's season look like a dream. If Pierre and Izturis/Perez/Bynum/etc... were batting 1/2 for the Marlins this year, no one would be talking about Cabrera's season. Look at Cabrera's OBP. He's got a .430 OBP and 106 runs scored. Pierre has a .332 OBP and 75 runs scored. 75 Let someone else pay millions for a guy to bat lead off and not get on base enough. The Cubs have already mastered that. It's time to try something else.
  4. Pierre needs to be gone. A guy with a .330 OBP and nearly 20 caught steals is a very poor option in the lead off spot. Pierre's runs scored for the season is proof that he's not a valuable player considering cost. If the Cubs did retain him (which I hope they don't), he most certainly shouldn't be batting lead off. 8th would make sense.
  5. There was one point in the game where Brooks threw the ball towards Moss on the sideline and Moss didn't even attempt to raise his hands to catch it. Next series of downs, Brooks was on the bench. Something seems to be amiss in Raiderland. BTW, the Chargers defensive celebrations were in honor/memory of Steve Foley.
  6. What was the name of that idiot that was catching punts last year? Bobby something. Huge upgrade.
  7. Other than waiting until a decision is made on CFers for next year, I'm pretty comfortable with Bonderman, Wang, Verlander, Cain, Baldelli, Johjima, Rolen, Uggla, Rollins and one of Frank Thomas, Ken Griffey, Mike Cameron, Ervin Santana, Joe Blanton or Adam Wainright. I'm sure trades will definitely be forthcoming. I have plenty of cap room to take on a stud or two. With Tulowitzki poised to take over at SS in Colorado and Rollins putting up a pretty solid year, I'll definitely be ready to do a little shopping this offseason. If CF becomes a position for 2007, I may keep Baldelli, Griffey and Cameron.
  8. In Pittsburgh, there was no way Miami was beating the Steelers. I'm 1-0.
  9. Favre isn't what the Bears need. A good pass catching tight end would do wonders.
  10. He really needs a haircut.
  11. Not sure I'd call it a bad break. Bad call, yes.
  12. With the right players, I could manage a team to the playoffs.
  13. Fired up for a new season, one of the best defenses in the entire NFL going against a horrible offensive line and a quarterback who needs time to find open receivers against a division rival could spell excellent field position for the offense. I think this game will be +10 Bears.
  14. I would hope it wasn't Rusch. We could really use that spot on the 40 man to protect a prospect.
  15. Insert American Pie joke here...... Stiffler's mom has got it goin' on.
  16. Don't forget the sandwich picks we'll get when Pierre leaves and Aramis opts out.
  17. I said that and I really wasn't all that excited about Furcal. I wanted Nomar back. Furcal wouldn't have needed to be brought up in what if discussions if Hendry went after the players he very easily could have lured here. Guys like Vlady, Beltran, Tejada, etc... Overpay for a good player= worth it if a good player puts your team over the top. Overpay for a mediocre player= lack of funding to sign a good player and he isn't good enough to put your team over the top.
  18. Furcal- .361 OBP/ 94 runs scored. Pierre- .334 OBP/ 70 runs scored. Now, take the 18 times that Pierre has been caught stealing off his OBP and what do you have. It's even worse. Furcal has been caught stealing 11 times. Pierre, Rusch and Neifi's salary's combined equals Furcal. Furcal would have costed a draft pick. Pierre costed Nolasco, Pinto and Mitre. The Cubs could have landed Furcal and signed Lofton on the cheap. Who ran over Lee? People say there is no such thing as a curse, but how else do you explain the success of the Dodgers with guys like Mueller, Nomar, Furcal, Lofton and now Maddux, and the Cubs best player gets injured most of the year by one of those guys while the rest of the team spontaneously combusts. I don't believe in curses. What I do believe is that Hendry and Baker have had way more than enough time to prove they don't belong here.
  19. Agreed. However, there should be plenty of space on the 40 man roster when the time comes.
  20. Now hitting before Derrek Lee ever picks up a bat is...... Rey Ordonez, Damian Jackson, Lenny Harris, Neifi Perez, Freddy Bynum, Jose Macias, etc.....
  21. Yep. They love that they don't ever have to break into a sweat. The ability to go straight from the field to a 4 star restaraunt without having to hit the showers is wonderful.
  22. Coincidentally, I just received an email from Cubs.com informing me that there are still tickets available for some of the remaining games.
  23. LOB is how many guys were left on base after 3 outs. Double plays, pick offs and caught stealing along with force outs and fly balls that nail a runner attempting to advance with less than 2 outs are just some of the ways OBP can be higher but have a lower LOB. And the team who gets on base the least is typically going to be right there in terms of having the lowest percentage of runners left on base.
  24. It's sarcasm. I don't know what Hendry spent the 4.1m on. It could have been spent on anyone.
