  1. My apologies. I think the confusion comes from the impression that we all have that Hendry is trying to move him or that Jones demanded a trade. I think most of us would rather hang onto him at this point rather than put someone even worse out there, if worse is the even the proper word to use. I hated the Jones signing last year and I was very vocal about it. Now, I'd rather keep him than go with a loser like Newhan. And I don't even need to think about it. If Jones wants out or if Hendry really wants to move him, too bad if it nets little in return. Stick him out there against RH pitching where he's serviceable and have him come off the bench in games the opponents are tossing a LH pitcher.
  2. Forget it. I'm not going to say you have a good point again, even though you all make good points. :D I don't see the Sox breaking their vow this soon in the ballgame. Maggs has only been gone 2 years. A team attempting to trade for Andruw might be required to add a really hefty extension in order to get him to waive his no trade clause, anyway. He's probably not going anywhere. You have the no trade clause. Atlanta will want more than they can probably get for a 1 year rental. Andruw can afford to be picky about what teams he would waive his no trade clause for. Teams that can't get an extension or the extension would be too steep may not be willing to part with the necessary players to get a deal done. And I'm probably missing something else in there somewhere. I'm surprised Tejada isn't a bigger topic of discussion if he is available. A shortstop that produces like he does is exactly what the Cubs need. But, what do we have to offer? Not enough.
  3. True. And so is Jacque Jones, though most won't admit it. Actually, if you've spent any time at NSBB (and I know you have), "most" people are not saying that anymore. If your definition of "most" is a couple of people, then clearly your definition of "most" is not the same as "most" of the people here. If you want to say "I told you so" for those of us who said that it was a bad signing last year, I suppose you do still have that. With that said, he still should be sitting the bench against LH pitchers.
  4. When you click on ESPN Hot Stove League, they show a guy named Prado as the first in line to start at 2b. Where this information comes from, I don't know. I read somewhere that the Braves were high on the guy, so that makes 4 guys that will be in the running for the 2b job. Personally, I think Aybar should be playing there everyday without question. But, I really don't follow the Braves all that close.
  5. Yeah, that's a lot of money for a guy who probably won't be anywhere near as productive as the cheaper guys on the roster.
  6. These two countries should produce a lot of future MLBers. :D
  7. I believe he's the guy that Corey Patterson beat out of a job. We all wanted Corey gone (well, most of us), and now the Cubs are considering someone who is worse than Corey. Just shoot us all and quit dragging out this suffering. Unless his name is Tejada or Markakis, let's not talk to Baltimore or any of their rejects, please.
  8. No. I like the Soriano signing. It's the other signings that I fear could get in the way of retaining Zambrano. In other words, I would rather have Zambrano for the next umpteen years and went with cheaper pitching options in 2007 to fill the other spots. It's possible that the other pitcher signings won't get in the way of resigning Zambrano. If that's the case, then all is good.
  9. Apparently you forgot the "I hate Scott Boras, and will never deal with his clients ever again" proclamation he made awhile back. The White Sox only has one Boras client on their teams, (Joe Crede), I believe, and the only reason why they haven't moved him yet, is because of two reasons: 1. there isn't a credible stopgap replacement on the FA market and 2. Josh Fields isn't ready. So I doubt Andruw Jones goes to the White Sox. That's a pretty good point.
  10. I wouldn't trade him right now. He just won't command enough in return to make it worth it. At the trade deadline, if the Cubs are out of it and he's pitching very well and someone wanted to offer up a really nice package for him, I might consider it. I'm very much afraid that Prior will be the next "I want to play in SoCal" free agent. He's from San Diego and Petco will be a place he can win a few Cy Youngs. With that in mind, I don't think the time is right to move him. At the trade deadline or at the end of 2007 will be better options. But, he really needs to show he's past his health issues and prove he can pitch and pitch well.
  11. Perhaps a bit presumptuous? Not sure how you can point a finger at Hendry for something that has yet to happen. Did you miss the words "if" and "might"? I understand that they are small words, so maybe your brain just didn't register them. comments deleted ... I'll keep them to myself! Sorry, your post just made no sense. He said "if a happens, then b", then you chided him for being presumptuous, when he had already stated that he would hold that opinion until it actually happened. Then it looks like I was being a bit presumptuous. Let's hope we never have to worry about Z walking and Hendry actually signs the man to a multi-year contract. Nonetheless, Go Cubs! That's what I'm hoping as well. I actually gave Hendry a fairly decent grade for this offseason. But, I think a mark would have to go against him if he ended up spending too much and he couldn't find a way to retain Zambrano. In other words, Lilly and Marquis money making Zambrano unaffordable would be a very bad thing. Rewinding things just a bit. Knowing how much money there was to spend this offseason, extending Zambrano should have been pretty high up on the priority list.
  12. I'm one of those guys that likely overrates him. However, he will only be 25 going into next year, and he's been very successful. His one weakness is OBP. If he improved on that as he enters his prime, he becomes a real nice producer in CF.
  13. I'll go out on a limb and guess not enough.
  14. Agreed. Cedeno needs to go back to Iowa.
  15. And, the Braves will get enough in the White Sox deal to turn around and get Baldelli.
  16. Bruce Levine: Hey, Kenny. What's going on? Kenny Williams: Not much, thinking I'd like to see Rocky Balboa. Now that's funny. :D
  17. Though Bonds in 2001 came very close to changing that balance for himself. And Mizzou: I'll take a team that can draw a walk every time to one that can make solid contact every time - every time. Actually a team that can draw a walk every time will never get out of the first inning if they dont make any outs on the bases. After about 3 business days and about 675432 runs scored the MLB would have to step in with a slaughter rule. But think of the advertising revenue. And if Bonds was involved, ESPN would cut to ever AB of his, making the ad billboard behind home plate quite profitable. Don't forget also that steroids would no longer be an issue. :P
  18. That's what I thought, but from what I've read, they don't seem to be just handing him the job. Kelly Johnson is the guy they really want to slot in at 2b. I think it might have something to do with them wanting a "prototypical" lead off hitter, which Johnson sort of is. Maybe the plan is to trade LaRoche, move Chipper to 1b and move Aybar to 3b. But, I also read that they really want to find a spot in the line up for Scott Thorman. 1b makes the most sense for him if they move LaRoche.
  19. There is a simple solution to all of this. Run Zambrano out there for about 300 IP this coming season and then sign him to a minimum salary deal while they sew his labrum back on. :D Of course this is not a joking matter. But, looking at how this offseason went and the money that was spent, it's absolutely shocking they couldn't find a way to make sure they took care of their own first. If Zambrano walks, this offseason might just go down as the worst offseason of Hendry's tenure. And he's had some real doozy's.
  20. If you move it to your sig, it should fit a lot better. It's not really a good picture for an avatar. But, it is a nice picture.
  21. I don't think it's necessary unless the alternative is Izturis. The more times the best hitters hit, the more likely they do something good with the bat. 2nd or 3rd in the order won't matter that much to Lee, but because of Lee's power, it would make more sense to put Murton in front of him.
  22. How does Dawson compare to Winfield?
  23. Cedeno's OBP was .005 higher than Neifi's. That is pretty darned insignificant. Ronny was just as bad as Neifi. Seriously. It cracks me up when people try to say that Cedeno was better than Neifi last year. I'd take .254/.266/.343/.610 over .245/.271/.339/.610 every day of the week. Some people seem to forget that a hit is better than a walk. I'll take option C. Neither.
  24. Zito isn't old enough to pitch for the Giants.
