Bears Week 13 at Lions on Thanksgiving morning, 11:30 on CBS
BigbadB replied to jersey cubs fan's topic in Other Sports
Absolutely a top 5 favorite movie of all time for me. Maybe #1. Also has my all time favorite line in a movie..... "You're going the wrong way" with the response "How do they know where we are going?" followed up with you all are drinking too much hand signals. Always laugh at that. I too think this one will be ugly. Lions offense is unstoppable right now. Shocked that they leave the starters in way longer than necessary. Last week with a 3 score lead, they never did take Goff out. -

I couldn't believe what I was hearing. What does Denver or SoFi or any other stadium not having boundary cameras have anything to do with cameras in Soldier that don't benefit/hinder either team one way or another. If you have a camera to make the right call, USE IT! It just continues to be a huge embarrassment to the NFL that college can make the right calls in real time and the NFL has unwritten rules and limitations on challenging calls by the referees. That plus the down time, which was kind of the whole point of limiting challenges. They sometimes take forever to make a call. -

It works during the game with clock not being a factor, or a close game. His defense is the same old bend but don't break concept that has kept the scoring to a minimum most of the time. But, that's about the only thing I can defend at this point. There are very clearly times when you need to disrupt the rhythm of the opposing QB, and he never seems to scheme the necessary plays to do that. -
Someone posted a graphic that showed up on my Facebook feed that showed the game was like 13-9 with 6:47 left in the game. Final score 34-26. I looked at the box score, and it actually shows the game was 13-9 up to 5:16 left on the clock when Dallas made it 20-9. It was a 41 point 4th quarter totalling 7 different scores. I had the game on, but was paying way more attention to the Bears.

I don't know if it's just that every coach makes idiotic decisions all game long and I don't notice, or if Eberflus is just the exception to the rule, but his incompetence all game long now is just staggering. Maybe I'm just looking for reasons to think he's really just this incompetent, or he really is this bad. To me, there is just no way you can let him finish the season. I get not doing it now on the short week, but holy crap it can't get much worse than it is now. The Bears defense in OT was playing defense like a team up two scores and just trying to keep the plays in front of them to run out the clock. At the very least, they looked like a team thinking that regardless of what the Vikings did on their series, that Chicago would get another chance with the football. To MinnesotaCubFan. Dude, this is NOT Caleb's time. No rookie QB in the history of Super Bowls has ever taken their team to the big game, let alone won it. And I'm sorry, but Caleb did put his team in a position to win late multiple times. It's not his fault that management decided to prevent his comeback from actually being successful. The Bears were a half inch out of bounds (Keenan Allen's challenged catch) from absolutely scoring on that series. The muffed punt never should have happened, and it clearly led to another score for the Vikings. The Bears played well enough to win this game, but coaching stood in the way once again. No, coaching had nothing to do with Keenan not being completely in bounds on that catch or the muffed punt or the blocked field goal, but coaching haunted this team in so many other ways that I absolutely put all of the blame directly on them. This team is poorly coached in every aspect of the game. They are second in the league in pre-snap penalties. Other teams get away over and over again with roughing up our receivers and QB's and the calls don't seem to ever reciprocate in the Bears favor. Eberflus couldn't win a challenge if he had 100% evidence the wrong/right call was made. His use of clock management is laughable, and he stores timeouts like a squirrel hiding nuts for the winter at times he should use them, then wastes them at times when he desperately needs them. There has been enough said casually by the players that they've had enough, so to not even have the players in your corner says all that needs to be said. I really like Poles, and I was hoping that his decisions turned this franchise into a winning one. He chose Eberflus as his head coach, and he stuck with him at a time when a clean slate might have been a better choice with a potential franchise QB walking in the door. I don't think he can be the guy to make the next choice. And I really don't think I have any faith that the decision makers can find the right people to do the job. -

The QB can be at fault for sacks, but when your line is so dysfunctional that the QB always has to be looking out of the corner of his eye, or is playing under the guise that someone is always about to sack him, it likely affects his ability to process plays properly. I'm not going to say that everything wrong with this offense revolves around the line or the play callers. But, defenses know that the Bears are not connecting down the field, and defenses know the line is a weakness that can be easily exposed just sending one extra guy from somewhere/anywhere. Williams has been inconsistent and wild on his throws, and he's also held the ball too long on plays where he absolutely needed to get rid of it. Brown found a way to make plays happen in less than 2 seconds. GB wasn't prepared for that, even though they were stacking the box like everyone else has been doing. The next team will quite possibly tighten up their defenses closer to the line to take away those quick plays, which should open up some slants across the middle and one on ones deep. But, I don't expect the Bears to be prepared to adjust to the defense next week, so I'll remain skeptical that they can achieve any decent passing yardage until I see it. -

Pretty sure if that kick isn't blocked, Santos still misses it left or right, because the Bears...... Nothing defines the Eberflus era any more than the Bears offense standing there with precious time running off the clock and no one has any clue what they are doing. Did anyone see the end of the Buffalo game? 4th down and they still just went for it. They didn't stand around waiting on a plan to kick the field goal. They committed to winning that game and they went out and won that game. Eberflus time and again finds ways to put the Bears in the position to lose games, and like magic, he ends up losing games. It's inexcusable. I'd be interested to know how many times Eberflus might get a coin flip called right. In my mind, he would lose every coin flip, because he he's the most unlucky person I think I've ever seen. It's a comedy at this point. I will admit, I did end up at the edge of my seat at one point during this game, but I was highly skeptical of that kick being good. And I don't care what anyone else says, sitting there watching the clock roll down to :03 with not only a time out in your pocket, but plenty of time on the clock to run more plays to try to get closer and everyone's just standing there with their thumbs up their butts. It's a super bad look. How do the players keep supporting this guy? The fans sure aren't. -

That's weird. He's played every game. I wonder if it's a new injury or the old one still causing him problems. -
While I don't typically sign up for social media apps, this one I might find interest in some day. Just not now. But, I do take pleasure in the fact that maybe this one will turn Twitter into nothing more than Truth Social at some point.

And while we are on the subject of linemen, Connor Williams has played every game for Seattle and signed a 2 year 14m contract, 8.5m guaranteed. I was under the impression he was going to miss about half a season recovering from an injury. I believe he was the best Center in free agency this past offseason. -

Prepare to have your defensive stats propped up by playing the Bears offense, who are currently starting 5 guys on the OLine that arguably wouldn't be starters on any other NFL team, assuming Jenkins is now out and no one out last week comes back this week. Projected starters in week #1 were Braxton Jones, Teven Jenkins, Coleman Shelton, Nate Davis, Darnell Wright. Last week's line up at one point (Jenkins injured AGAIN) featured 3rd string LT Larry Borom, 3rd string Center and short yardage extraordinaire RB Doug Kramer at LG, Coleman Shelton, 2nd string Center Ryan Bates at RG and 2nd string RG Matt Pryor at RT. While Coleman Shelton is the current starting Center, he did not have that title on the team he came from. -

I said this in the week 10 thread, but Darren Rizzi has literally no coaching experience above special teams coordinator in the NFL, yet he coached his team to a victory this week against a tough Atlanta opponent. This was his very first week taking over for Dennis Allen. Eric Washington can continue his work as DC and now that Brown is in place as OC, let any other coach on the roster who has respect from the players take over as interim. If it's a situation where the players have quit on this coaching staff, then replace the coach and see if that fixes things. -
Week 10 - Patriots (2-7) at Bears (4-4) - Noon on FOX
BigbadB replied to UMFan83's topic in Other Sports
The Saints fired their coach. And that team played with heart in that victory on Sunday. They were playing with WR's you can't even name. Shaheed and Olave are both on IR. I think Taysom Hill was their back up RB. Darren Rizzi has never held a higher ranking in the NFL of Special Teams Coordinator prior to being named the interim head coach for the Saints. Just cut bait with Eberflus and Waldron already. Eric Washington can run the defense. Hell, he can just keep using Eberflus' playbook for that. Hire any warm body that the players respect to be the interim head coach and let the QB coach work with this offense to move the ball down the field. You can't convince me that the results would be worse. But, it's seeming more and more likely that the players have given up on this coaching staff and more of the same could result in an even worse situation than the one they find themselves in. More than anything, you need to find some competence before the season ends if you want any chance at a guy like Ben Johnson giving up his current gig, or even considering the Bears job the premium job to consider. -

I watched that entire game with no emotion, and it went about as predictably bad as I would have imagined. I said it last week. This season is over. Nothing is pulling them out of this spiraling toilet bowl flush. I had so much hope for this season. Meanwhile, I watch Bo Nix, Jayden Daniels and Derek Maye every week and I'm jealous that our QB isn't having a passing field day with the likes of Moore, Kmet, Allen and Odunze running routes. I honestly thought there was going to be an offense we could be proud of. This team SUCKS! -
Week 9 - Bears (4-3) @ Cardinals (4-4), 3:05 p.m. Sunday 11/3
BigbadB replied to Brian707's topic in Other Sports
Yeah. Last week looked like a team that isn't going to find its feet again anytime soon. But, playing at home sometimes makes a team look entirely different. Not sure why it factors in that much. The dimensions of the field are the same everywhere. -
Weather and travel ease will definitely factor into the decision. Probably best to assume he'll be elsewhere and be surprised and happy if he chooses Chicago.

So if officials are going to treat a 2 point conversion the same way they treat a Hail Mary and simply ignore any and all penalties, it kinda seems like a bad idea to attempt them. I didn't actually see the play, so I'm just assuming your observations were correct. -
I think the OP's expectation is that guys exiting their primes aren't the best people to be offering extensions to. This is exactly how the Cubs keep missing out on big name free agents. The earmarked money for a guy in decline is now eating from the money pool that could go to a Soto type FA. Maybe you keep one of them, but probably not both. IF there is no window for a big name FA, maybe you just run with what you have, but as is hasn't been good enough for a playoff run. More of the same isn't ideal.

This damn time change has me going to bed early. I did turn on the game in bed, but was asleep early in the 2nd quarter. Damn, I'm an old curmudgeon.

It wasn't a huge tear down. There was very little talent on the roster to begin with. Pace was so horrible at his job, he left the next GM very little to work with in talent, cash to spend or draft picks. Outside of trading Mack, I can't even remember the names of any other players that they jettisoned during the rebuild. -

Watching yesterday's game was numbing. I didn't yell at the tv once. I just sat there numb. I kind of knew this was going to happen, because it's so Bearsy to have it happen. I think I'm also at that point in the season that nothing will shock me anymore this year. I'm ready to move on from yet another coaching staff. Start wherever you want....Poles, Eberflus, I don't care. Try to get it right this time, and can we please go agro on improving this offensive line? This team was playing like they have already given up on this season and this coaching staff, and considering I was numb to everything that was happening in front of me, I guess I've given up on this team now, too. I'll continue to watch, because I don't not watch. But the excitement of possibly being a wild card or some caliber of playoff team is over at this point. If that's the best showing that they can give against Arizona, it's going to be even uglier in the coming weeks. I won't be the guy wishing we had Daniels or Nix, but it's frustrating as hell watching those guys hit guys in stride, hit their guys in open areas where there is YAC, go deep for a connection, take off running when a play breaks down, etc... A semblance of an actual offense, something we are not getting with all world talent littering the roster. I saw Waldron attempting to create plays to get DJ in space, but there is zero space when the defense doesn't need to wander any further than about 10 yards beyond the line of scrimmage when there is no threat of a deep play, because A) the line won't hold up for a deep patter, and B) Caleb is constantly way off target on deep patterns. This season is basically over. Sell what you can and try not to let anyone die on the field before this season is over. -

That's right. Punish the entire team for some stupidity from the previous week. How stupid. There is no punishment worse than the shellacking Stevenson is taking on social media. And let some more fans boo him from the stands when he takes the field. If benching Stevenson for even one series and the Bears end up losing that game, I'll be ready to move on with an interim coach. At some point, I'm sure I thought benching a guy for stupidity was a good idea. But, having time to reflect, it would not be in the best interest of the team to put a better player on the bench. The biggest problem I have with disciplinary action on Stevenson is Eberflus deserves the same disciplinary action for his NON actions in letting Washington come back and win that game at the end. -

Haven't seen it mentioned here, but apparently he was running his mouth exactly the same way on the play before the hail mary. So that's......fun.
