I'll bet, in his mind, there is no validity to any of a sportswriters ideas (or message board poster). And that's quite unfortunate. Because, he could learn a lot hanging out here. At least he earned enough money from the Cubs these past 5 years to retire, since that's probably what he'll have to do once he's gone from this organization. Who, in their right minds, would give him another chance? He was given the GM job with an ever increasing payroll, one of the top minor league organizations in baseball and much roster flexibility (limited guaranteed long term contracts. The sky was the limit. Basically, he was given what any GM would dream of having at their disposal. How is that working out right now? Not so good.

I like my exempt players. Josh Hamilton, BJ Upton, Matt Cain and James Shields are all looking pretty respectable.

So the TBA's are keeping up in real time now? Cool. If so, James Shields outing was magnanimus. After the 1st inning, he had a score of -11. I had to conduct a business meeting, I come back to check on his outing and he's sitting at 30.25. How does a guy throw 25 pitches in the first inning and only 80 over the next 8? Life is good.

Bonds had 136 starts in the 3 spot in 2001-Kent had 12. Kent had 141 starts in the 4 spot-Bonds had 11. Yeah, I actually edited my post to correct myself before you responded. There was a year where they did that, though. Maybe it was '02.

I'm pretty sure that Kent was hitting 3rd ahead of Bonds for a better portion of Bonds' 73 HR season. Edit: That would make me incorrect. Kent batted 4th most of the season.
