  1. To a degree, yes we have made that assumption. But, it was based on reports that a deal was extremely close with the Orioles at the very same time Hendry had something working with Chone Figgins. I want to say the report about Figgins might have been Rosenthal, since I can't find anything on Rotoworld. It's somewhere deep down in the long Roberts thread.
  2. So, San Diego will have an outfield of Giles, Fukudome and Bradley. Cubs will have Soriano, I Don't Know and I Have No Idea. Cool.
  3. Where is this 12m number coming from for the Padres? I'm not buying it. The last number I heard was 8m. And that's about where I would expect them to bow out.
  4. Isn't Hawkins one of those guys that compares to Fansworth in that he's good one year and horrible the next?
  5. This is also what happens when Hendry puts all of his eggs in one basket, which he's basically done on two different fronts this offseason. 1) Fukudome 2) Lefty speedster that can hit for power
  6. I tell you what though, if they end up with Figgins in CF, Roberts at 2B, and Fukudome in RF, I can live with that. Throw in a Pie and Prior for Greene trade (and blow the budget in the process) and you've got a very potent, if not excellent, lineup next year. While I definitely agree with this, I don't see how the Cubs have enough talent to get Figgins, Roberts AND Greene. Add in Fukudome and you've actually spent a ton in cash. This administration says they can't afford Tejada, and Figgins, Roberts and Greene is probably more than Tejada makes. I don't think Pie and Prior gets Greene, but let's pretend it does. Let's also pretend that it takes Gallagher, Murton and Cedeno to get Roberts. I have no idea what Anaheim would want for Figgins, but what can the Cubs offer them outside of Marmol that would bring Figgins?
  7. Correct. If the demand for season tickets is there, then there is incentive to keep boosting prices.
  8. Easy. Several current Cub players are getting substantial raises this year.
  9. Picks are traded frequentl. Don't forget the Cubs drafted and traded Josh Hamilton last year. A few years earlier the Orioles drafted Luke Hagerty from the Cubs, then traded him to the Marlins (who eventually returned him to the Cubs). The Royals drafted that MIT player the Cubs had (name escapes me now) and he was traded to the Padres. That was about 4 years ago.
  10. Wasn't Bradley a Type A free agent? Wouldn't have mattered. Michael Barrett is the only player they offered arbitration to, I believe.
  11. I disagree, 1. If they asked for Zambrano, we could simply laugh. 2. Even the Yankees have expressed interest in shedding some payroll and adding some budding stars. Or at least keeping their own. The Yankees organization isnt familiar with the term "shedding payroll". I was more leaning towards "cost conscience" more this year than they've ever been. Ya think so, huh? Did you happen to notice the contracts that Rivera, Posada and ARod got?
  12. http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseball/cubs/685090,cub120607.article That's because Murton has zero trade value, thanks to this stupid administration.
  13. No. Roy Oswalt can't pitch anymore than once every 5th day.
  14. Yes, 14th round in 2001. Couldn't get a deal done. I was thinking the Cubs drafted him twice and he didn't sign either time, maybe I'm wrong.
  15. Hendry could do something that would make us all jump up and down with joy. He could fire himself. Besides that, let's analyze what he's done to "this point". He's traded a left handed hitting outfielder and a reliever for 2 minor league relievers. 2 years ago Hendry put all of his eggs in Rafael Furcal's basket and ended up signing guys like Jeromy Burnitz. Last year sort of worked out even though he really put all of his eggs in Alfonso Soriano's basket. This year, he's placing all of his eggs in Fukudome's basket. If we don't get this guy, we're going to have Sam Fuld patrolling RF. Teams that want to improve don't sit around watching what everyone else is doing. Anaheim played games and watched Detroit come in and swoop up on Miguel Cabrera. The time Hendry spent going after Kazuo Matsui would have been better spent going after someone good. But, I'm not convinced Jim Hendry really knows what good really is. Oh wait, good is a speedy lefty hitting outfielder or a guy who can catch the ball. I keep forgetting these things.
  16. Those crazy mods like to put stupid looking words in place of curse words to make the person using curse words look stupid, thereby making the person who is using curse words be a bit more careful in their future language selections. :D
  17. If I'm MacPhail (and/or Angelos), I want Troy Patton and one of JR Towles or Hunter Pence or I'd ask Houston to do their offseason shopping elsewhere.
  18. Honestly, if you're going to blow up your team, do you really want guys like Adam Everett and Chris Burke? You can pick guys like them off the scrap heap prior to the start of the year. If the Orioles are trading Tejada, Roberts and Bedard, they should be looking at prospects that are actually half way decent. When I envision a deal for a Miguel Tejada, I see a package like Brandon Wood and Kendry Morales, most definitely not Adam Everett and Chris Burke. Could you imagine the Orioles dealing off all of these guys and have 7 Chris Burkes and Nick Markakis taking the field everyday? Eeewww.
  19. And the right deal would be to get sent to San Francisco? Ughh. He can forget about postseason baseball for a long time if that's the case.
  20. Whats going to happen between the OFs and Nick Johnson/Dmitri Young? They could make a decent package trading Young, Kearns, Langerhans. Langerhans has next to no trade value at this point.
  21. Scott Rolen, come on down...... Actually, I could see Moreno going after Melvin Mora.
