  1. That is the coverage you would like to run in that situation? The situation Lovie, is that if you keep them in bounds the game is over. It doesn't matter where they are in bounds, game over you win. They could be in bounds @ midfield, at the 30, or at the 1 yard line. It doesn't matter, the game is over. The only thing that beats you is a sideline pass were the receiver can get out of bounds. So you guard the sticking sideline..bracket the damn reciever! Is this guy for real? I cannot believe the stupidiy of this coaching staff, specfically Lovie. Not that the TO would have been called in time, but technically Atlanta had 2 timeouts left. Theoretically they could have passed inbounds and gotten the TO. I don't think that this is possible. Running out of bounds is an automatic clock stoppage. A pass play for 30 yards downfield has officials all over the place. After the catch, there needs to be a tackle or a touch, and then an official would need to see a player calling for a TO. That is much more slowly developing than an automatic clock stoppage by going out of bounds.
  2. I agree that it's a longshot that the Pads would be interested in Harden, but I think this is a case where a 3-way deal would be highly workable. I like Harden, but I think he's only as good as Peavy when both are 100%. Peavy's ability to be at or near 100% for most of the season makes him far more valuable than Harden, IMO. Think cheap. Harden would not be cheap enough. I'm not even sure Cano would be cheap enough, although there would be a significant decrease in payroll to add Cano, Hughes and Kennedy in exchange for Peavy. Moores is actually considering taking on an investor to help him keep this team afloat during this messy divorce.
  3. There is a big difference between Rex and Orton. Orton has pocket presence. Rex always looked like a deer caught in the headlights on pass plays, despite being semi-mobile. Rex also has tunnel vision. He is unable to read defenses or the field. For awhile, I almost thought the coaching staff developed pass plays for him that limited his options to 1 single receiver downfield and 1 safety valve (usually a RB out of the backfield). But, after watching Orton, I'm convinced that Rex is just that bad. In defense of Rex, an offensive line that is not good at giving your receivers time to run their routes can do that to a guy. Orton doesn't act like he's afraid to get hit, which is vital to the success of your passing game. I hope he continues to impress.
  4. I can see where you get the impression that I singled out Vanilla since I actually quoted him. I acknowledge that Vanilla was not the only one to go off topic. The debate of who is or isn't allowed to post in game threads is not in game discussion. Start a new thread if you want to discuss that. I don't care who posts in the game threads, I just don't want to weed through a bunch of off topic stuff in a game thread.
  5. I agree with most of this. However, Orton did have at least one poorly thrown ball. It was down the right side of the field and Olsen had to reach back to prevent the defender from intercepting it.
  6. See Soul. Now you've got Raisin spending his valuable time looking up former Bears QB's in a thing we call "Where are they now?". I hope you're happy.
  7. The booing isn't just directed at the QB in the game at the time. It is also directed at the personnel who decided not to give us good QB's.
  8. Careful now. I think most Bears fans are tired of the carousel of QB's, not that they want Kyle. They'll take anyone who has the capacity to be good, a team leader and will consistently get this team to the playoffs. Granted, Matt Ryan is just a rookie with only a small handful of games under his belt, but he showed some great composure and he found his receivers when he wanted and needed to. That's what I want in a QB. I've only been waiting for that for 35 years.
  9. Okay, this needs to be said. You had your fun in the last game thread, and I'm officially tired of reading it. If you don't have Bears game related material to share, please quit posting in the Bears game threads. Your whining is as childish as anything. Grow thicker skin. Who's whining? Where do you see whining? There is one Bears thread per week, and I don't think it's asking too much to limit the discussion to the game at hand. My request has nothing to do with who should or should not post in the Bears game, but simply to keep the discussion to the game at hand. The last game thread was littered with off topic discussion that had to be weeded through to find actual game discussion. I don't really think that's asking too much. But, if you don't like it, take it up with an Admin.
  10. when i first saw the highlight of that play i almost fell off the couch laughing. so typically lions. The only thing missing from this play was a completed pass to someone with a Lion's jersey on in the front row of the bleachers.
  11. Playing on wild card weekend might be their only chance of actually winning a playoff game. The Bears still play New Orleans at home in December, have 5 games left vs their own division, and a game with STL. They can still go 9-3 against the NFC with wins against two playoff contenders in New Orleans and Philly (plus GB/MIN). Is it just me, or has this NFL football season been one of the most unpredictable seasons to date? It's become next to impossible to predict a winner in any game.
  12. That's not surprising considering you had 2nd string corners playing every down, and 3rd string nickel and dimes playing in passing situations.
  13. It's a sad day when you can't trust your special teams to hold the return to less than 30 return yards. The squib kick was a horrible idea. Did Lovie honestly believe that his special teams unit would give up back to back 70+ yard returns? If they did, then they don't deserve to win. But, essentially, he never gave them an opportunity to make that stand, so this loss hangs over Lovie.
  14. It should be illegal to generate a ridiculous amount of excitement followed so closely by a ridiculous amount of depression. So being a Cubs fan should be illegal? I suppose so.

  17. Being as fair as I can possibly be with a stop watch, I come up with about 10.53 seconds to complete those two plays. That's saying that each time the clock was stopped, that would mean that between the two clock stoppages, there must have been a full second for each play. I did go back and look at the Bears last drive. The clock seemed to be ticking a bit more liberally before the Bears scored. It even appeared as though 2 or 3 seconds ticked off the clock after the time out was called. With that said, I think it's fair to say that if we were really watching the clock like a hawk, the Falcons deserved a little more than 11 seconds on the clock since time should have been put back on the clock on the Bears drive. But, we know why the clock was ticking super fast when the Bears were driving now, don't we? My final summation on this is: As slowly as the official timekeeper was at starting the clock, he seemed just as slow in stopping the clock at the end of the plays (as I was still within 11 seconds on my stopwatch, and that the Bears do NOT have grounds for a protest.
  18. That one was nothing compared to how long it took for the clock to start on the kickoff. If anyone has a DVR and can still rewind, check it out. And remember that just because it said 11 seconds on the clock doesn't mean there is a full second before it ticks down to 10. It says 11 all the way to the point there is 10 seconds left. The scoreboard clock operator took his sweet time starting that clock. I think I'll go back and see how the clock ticked off at the tail end of the Bears touchdown catch.
  19. I rewound my DVR several times and I've determined that the first second of the kickoff was the longest second in the history of mankind. Also, the first second of the last pass play was the second longest second in the history of mankind. On the first one, the receiver caught the ball and took at minimum 2 steps before the first second ticked off the clock. On the pass play, a lot happened before the first second ticked off the clock. Basically, it was a minimum of 13 seconds for those two plays, yet it only took 10 for them to get in field goal range. Amazing.
  20. I thought it was hilarious. The entire SNL Update was hilarious.
  21. Agreed. I'm fine with Hill backing up a prospect at AA or AAA, but he's done as a major league backstop. There are other options available on the cheap that I'd be perfectly fine with. But, my first preference would probably be to bring back Blanco for 1m.
  22. Yes, because good contact hitters like Mark Grace average 160-170 RBI a year. Hmm. Wait. You know someone who makes good contact and doesn't strike out much? Miguel Tejada. 32 GIDP's this year. What do you hate more, a strike out or a GIDP? Ryan Howard hit into 11 GIDP's. Ryan Howard= 475 outs this year Miggy Tejada= 496 outs this year
  23. I think I can answer this one. Chad Billingsley. Good strike out pitchers can strike out anybody, not just strike out prone hitters. Sometimes, people are just going to strike out against a guy like Billingsley. Billingsley thrives on missing bats with his pitches. Come to think of it, the Cubs have a few guys like that, too.
  24. Why would the Angels not sign Tex? They traded their starting 1b for him. Did they do this simply as a one year rental?
