  1. ??? Royals currently have Guillen, DeJesus, Teahen, Butler. Why on earth would they be interested in Francouer? Especially for a pitcher like Greinke?
  2. Am I the only one confused by this quote? Bradley will come cheaper than his talent level would suggest because of his injury and temper tantrum baggage. Bradley is going to be cheaper than Ibanez? Bradley played 20 games in the outfield last year.
  3. How often is Bradley going to go 0-8 batting between Ramirez and Lee? Bradley is NOT Jacque Jones.
  4. I'll bet Joe Morgan voted for Joe Gordon just because he thinks his name is/sounds cool.
  5. I was all set to assume the deal wouldn't be announced until Tuesday, in honor of Ron Santo's day in the sun. But, then the Veteran's Committee ruined that. With Cub fans being let down about Santo, I think they should reward them with a Peavy deal.
  6. Since he can't play LF, I'd say the popular vote would be that he can't play RF, either.
  7. The dude with the really long last name. Welcome to the forum It's probably between Gaudin and Samardzija, though Samardzija will probably need some (alot) of starts at Iowa.
  8. This is true. There are also a lot of pitchers who weren't offered arby, others who may be nontendered, and a guy like Marquis will cost players and money. This is also why it would be nice if Hendry would just get done with this Peavy trade. I'd hate for it to drag out as long as the Marquis sweepstakes could be end up going.
  9. Please check the other topics for similar threads before starting new ones.
  10. I would imagine Mr. Miles will take care of his loyal reader base first. Las Vegas is on Pacific Coast Time, and because "Sin City" is known as the city that never sleeps, I wouldn't get too excited in anticipation of early morning trade talk.
  11. Sometimes. There has to be some explanation for why he was left off the 40 man roster.
  12. Yeah. That deal is done (except for the PTBNL) ok to Cards or O's? Guess I should have specified the Cardinals.
  13. http://www.signonsandiego.com/sports/sullivan/20081208-9999-1s8sullivan.html Nice quotes there. Vitters and his hand/wrist? I'm guessing there might be something wrong with Veal.
  14. Yeah. That deal is done (except for the PTBNL)
  15. I'm not I understand the hold up. Couldn't we just send Pie to San Diego in the deal, then San Diego can send Pie to Baltimore for Olson?
  16. I wonder what kind of relationship Peavy and Bradley had in San Diego?
  17. This is true. But as we've seen the last 2 Octobers, having a offense that doesn't perform in October hurts too. In 3 out of the last 6 playoff games we lost we gave up 3, 5 and 3 runs. The Cubs scored more runs than any other team in the NL last year. Yup. My point was even with a stud pitching staff, you need to score runs in October. Which is all well and good. But, the rumors are that the Cubs plan to upgrade RF and there isn't one clear upgrade over any other player. It's going to be a gamble no matter who they grab of this group: Abreu, Ibanez, Bradley, Scott, Hermida, Giles, Dunn, etc... The difference between Peavy and Marquis is much more significant.

  19. Age should push Ibanez to the back of the pack as well. Not to mention his atrocious defense. I have to admit that it is rather exciting thinking about the possibility of Peavy in the rotation and someone of the stature of Abreu, Dunn or Bradley as the lefty bat. But, I'm guessing Abreu and Dunn will be too expensive. The Mets have more wiggle room to give one of those guys more years and dollars, as do a few other teams who wish to upgrade their outfield.
  20. Hey Lou! Ibanez will cost more in annual salary AND draft pick compensation. It's time for you to like Milton Bradley now. Lou's past his prime. I'm guessing he's not interested in fighting his own players anymore. Besides, he probably likes players that will actually play more than 60-70 games a year. Lou probably doesn't care about the farm system, since he won't be around long enough to see just how barren it will be when the Cubs forfeit 2 picks in the June Amateur Draft. Luckily, Lou isn't the one making the decisions.

  22. It would seem to me that this whole bit about having to lock up a LH RF is just leverage on Hendry's part. Towers has no one to trade Peavy to if the Cubs spend too much for a LH RF. It's pretty apparent that Peavy wants to be a Cub. The Padres will have a lot more work to do once they move Peavy. Peavy's contract is holding them up from doing anything. I think Marquis has to be traded if they add Peavy. But, Hendry doesn't want to come right out and say that so that he doesn't dilute the trade value Marquis currently has. Once Marquis is traded, I would expect the Peavy deal to follow very closely after. I'd be shocked if Hendry has the money to sign Dunn or Abreu after trading for Peavy. I think a cheaper target would be Bradley. Also, once the Cubs have Peavy, I would think a few LH bats would see Chicago as a great destination if they have their sights set on playing in the playoffs. It's possible Hendry could get a little more leverage for that bat with Peavy already in the fold.
  23. At 2m, Blanco will be playing somewhere else. Back up catcher is where the Cubs can afford to skimp, since Soto is so durable behind the plate.
  24. I don't know the tax rates in the states involved, but they would have to be pretty outrageous to eat up an extra $30 million over 6 years. The point isn't that the difference between states would eat it all up, but can significantly minimize the difference.
  25. Im just sayin as an example...I do not like him,but I accept him..Theres quite a few people on here that feel the same way and people on here that love him..Howry is on a whole different level though. thank god hes gone Oh. I thought you were attempting to say he's whiny like Marquis.
