The Brewers had Chris Capuano, Bill Hall and either Rolen's entire salary or the Cardinals pick up a portion of the salary and the Brewers add a "top" prospect. That is value. And that trade didnt go thru, because Doug Melvin had second thoughts because of all the baggage with Rolen right now. Rolen is a shell of his former self plain and simple. Not according to every media outlet I've read. The issue was the Cardinals wanted the Brewers to assume full salary as well as send a top prospect. The Brewers wanted to do one or the other. It apparently did not have anything to do with Rolen's baggage. Of course I agree with you that he is a shell of his former self, but Melvin and the Brewers doctors looked at his medical files and were ready to go through with the trade even after that.
