  1. OF COURSE Abramovich is there. With his check book. Yentlemen...come on my yacht. We will have wodka and discuss bidnez.
  2. One super bribey country down. One to go. So predictable.
  3. Is that the younger guy with the same haircut every russian villian has had in every cold war era film? Yeah. He plays for Arsenal.
  4. Arshavin is a midget. With terrible hair.
  5. Australia went to Asia from Oceania in 2007. 2018 = Russia. Yay! I'm actually psyched to go to Russia. Always wanted to.
  6. Oh man I didn't even think about that. Do they even have a team? WTF Btw, Al Jazeera is reporting it is indeed Qatar. Not yet but the checks are in the mail for the current Brazil U13 team. Haha, I just made a joke on twitter about a bunch of Qatarese dudes named Juninho and Ronaldo filling their roster.
  7. Oh man I didn't even think about that. Do they even have a team? WTF Btw, Al Jazeera is reporting it is indeed Qatar.
  8. Never fight a land war in Asia and never start a bidding war with Sheiks. It would be kind of hysterical if oil prices plummeted again between now and then and completely ruined their ability to build those crazy stadia. Which would just give us the Cup. We're the defacto fall back host every 4 years.
  9. From twitter: @GrantWahl No definitive answers hours before World Cup bid news, but general consensus of sources in Zurich says US is indeed SLIGHT 2022 favorite.
  10. Quick summary of the Australian bid: "DO IT. IT'LL BE AWESOME HERE. ALSO, ASIAN TELEVISION TIME ZONE." Quick summary of Qatar's bid: "We're prepared to spend waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay, way too much money on shiny objects just to get you guys here. Please please please come. Also, we won't terrorist any of your asses. Remember, we're the nice Muslims!"
  11. That's the best part for us. Most countries have to spend so much public money to improve infrastructure, facilities and build new stadiums that it becomes a boondoggle of epic proportions. We'd have to do very little, just sit back and wait for those tourist and sponsorship dollars. I'm sampling some of the other bid presentations right now and I've gotta say, we big leagued everybody. I'm not saying there aren't compelling reasons for Australia or Qatar to host, there are. I'm just saying our presentations level of professionalism with the presentation's design, content and presenters is way better than the others.
  12. Here's our bid presentation. May have been posted already, I'm too lazy to go back a page. http://www.fifa.com/worldcup/bidders/live/newsid=1343822/index.html
  13. No Wolf, but because FIFA is highly politicized and loves to be "progressive" and "cutting edge." They're just dying to give the bid to new venues and it's totally going to be Russia and freakin' Qatar. It's going to be stupid and absurd, but alas. Yeah, also I think we are one of the least likely delegations to offer the correct perks/bribes just because we don't have the unilateral backing from our society as a whole that other countries do. I don't think the English public would be all that upset if they found out Prince William brought suitcases full of cash to hand out. If Clinton did that, our country would flip. It'd be the biggest corruption scandal since Clinton's previous one.
  14. Think about it this way with Chicago. If we get the bid, which we probably won't, they will need to find a way to increase capacity and improve field turf. This is something the Bears need to fix anyway. Most cities preparing for the World Cup have to build brand new stadiums from the ground up. A relatively short renovation shouldn't be a big issue, certainly not a big enough issue to take maybe the most tourist friendly and soccer mad cities in the country off the host list.
  15. EVERYONE PAY ATTENTION. YOU NEED TO GET A TRUCK, FILL IT WITH CANNED GOODS FROM COSTCO AND RETREAT TO YOUR SAFE ROOMS/BOMB SHELTERS/NEAREST FORTIFIED BUILDING FOR THE END IS NIGH. Jonathan Spector has a brace vs United starting in CENTRAL MIDFIELD. The game hasn't ended yet either. He had a third called offside. It's not just the goals either. Apparently he's just running [expletive].
  16. Don't know. I'd assume sale.
  17. Some Yanks abroad rumors for the upcoming January window include: Jozy to Kaiserslauten - http://www.fichajes.com/villarreal-alemania-ofrece-una-via-de-escape-a-jozy-altidore_26315 Deuce to Leverkusen - http://4-4-2.com.sportalsports.com/sportch/generated/v2/article/tnt_fussball/geruechte/2010/11/25/13595500000_00.html Jermaine Jones to Wolfsburg - http://www.goal.com/en/news/15/germany/2010/11/25/2231432/wolfsburg-want-schalke-midfielder-jermaine-jones-report Gooch to Rangers - http://www.milannews.it/?action=read&idnotizia=39669 I'd love each of these moves to go down. Some others I don't have links for that won't go away are of course, Landon to Everton, Deuce to Liverpool and Gooch to Palermo.
  18. Granted I'm no Fulham historian, but I doubt there has been anyone at the Cottage who has scored beautiful goals like the strike against Juve and the kind of beast mode goals like his header this weekend. He's a bad dude.
  19. And Portland promptly trades Dax to DC United for Rodney Wallace. Great move by United.
  20. Interesting expansion draft results. Portland: 1. FC Dallas MF Dax McCarty 2. Columbus D Eric Brunner 3. Columbus MF Adam Moffat 4. Colorado D Anthony Wallace 5. Real Salt Lake D David Horst 6. Real Salt Lake F Robbie Findley* 7. Chicago MF Peter Lowry 8. Chivas USA D Jonathan Bornstein* 9. D.C. United D Jordan Graye 10. San Jose MF Arturo Alvarez Bornstein is leaving but it'll be nice for them to own his rights when he inevitably returns from Mexico. McCarty is a solid midfielder to build around as is Brunner at D. Wallace, Findley and Alvarez have a lot of talent. 1. Seattle MF Sanna Nyassi 2. Dallas F Atiba Harris 3. Seattle MF Nathan Sturgis 4. Philadelphia MF Shea Salinas 5. Chivas USA F Alan Gordon 6. Toronto F O'Brian White 7. Philadelphia F Alejandro Moreno 8. San Jose GK Joe Cannon 9. Kansas City D Jonathan Leathers 10. Chicago MF John Thorrington Solid picks in Harris, Sturgis, Gordon, Moreno, Cannon and Thorrington. A lot of experience in the league there. Nyassi has huge upside, I love that pick. If Zakuani goes to Everton as is rumored, Seattle could have a ton of holes to fill.
  21. Jermaine Jones started and went 70 for Schalke today. Good news as he was out of favor with Magath.
  22. Rongen getting it done: http://www.yanks-abroad.com/get.php?mode=content&id=7102
  23. Dax is unprotected in the expansion draft. He's solid value for an expansion side. I'd snap him up. It's either us or Qatar and if it goes to Qatar than you know some dudes at FIFA just got even richer. The heat and security threat alone should rule them out. I live in the damn desert and the last thing I want to do in July is sit outside baking while drinking, screaming, singing and carrying on. People will die if it is held there. Ive done that many times and you have to be careful how long you stay out. Some pasty mofo from England who hasn't seen the sun for months at a time who's had too many pints will die of heat stroke. Personally I hope it's in Australia. 2022 I'll be 37 and presumably making enough money to go.
  24. The league's tinkering makes it so anti-climactic. I love playoffs because I'm a red damn blooded american who eats steaks and breathes freedom but when a team like Colorado wins, it's anti-climactic. It just is. At least last year you could point to Kreis' management or Landon's penalty miss. This year it was bad officiating, an own goal and jerk off toronto fans that become the story. The Houston v New England series were awesome, but since then, Columbus v NY was bogus because NY was an 8 seed that won the "West", same thing happened last year when RSL won the "East" and of course this year with Colorado winning the "East." Edit - I'll say this about Colorado though. I don't know who their GM is, but we talk a lot about foreigners who struggle understanding the American player. Colorado's management team is English, and they completely remade this team through savvy, in-league moves like Wynne and Moor at the CB, Larentowicz pairing the middle with Mastro and pairing Cummings and Casey. Really good moves. Well done to them.
