  1. It looks like he was left off of Milans Champions league squad for Oddo who is complete crap, so that is probably not great news for him. He just got back to full training. He's not going to be ready for a full 90 for a few weeks anyway. Plus he and Oddo don't play the same positions.
  2. Van Der Vaart to Spurs is a great piece of business. Kaladze to Genoa and Milan turning down a Boriello-for-Mexes swap has to be a good sign for the Gooch, no?
  3. Our forward pool just started licking their chops. That is some serious stat-padding fodder.
  4. I can't decide which I'm least psyched about. The decreased margin for error or the chance that we could lose the Azteca trip.

  6. There's an election, but I doubt it's very democratic. He makes everyone involved way too much money to get voted out. This summer has left me with blue balls as a US Soccer fan. The World Cup ended in a way it didn't have to. All the transfer speculation that went nowhere. The extension debacle with Bradley. It's been a weird combination of stimulating (the world cup, some good performances by important players) with no actual payoff.
  7. Bradley re-upped through 2014. Once again, Sunil Gulati manages to make something harder than it has to be all while making everyone involved look less professional. Once again, Bob Bradley somehow finishes second choice behind Klinssmann and gets the job. What a joke, USSF.
  8. Soon-to-be-capped Mix Diskerud with a lovely chip: http://fotball.aftenposten.no/eliteserien/article178373.ece
  9. Mark Hughes is a moron watch continues through week 3.
  10. That's a fun group.
  11. http://www.philadelphiaunion.com/news/2010/08/mwanga-eyeing-usmnt-2014-world-cup If we snap up Najar, this year's rookie class of Tim Ream, Andy Najar, Danny Mwanga and Sean Johnson could be the deepest for the National Team, ever. Edit - Video of Dempsey's goal from yesterday: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RiMFIPrsXio
  12. Clint on the board.
  13. Thursday, apparently. Here's how it's going to go. Sunil: Got a job yet, Bob? Bob: Nope. Got a coach yet? Sunil: Nope. Bob: Ok. See you at the Gold Cup then.
  14. Crew get the full on Mexican treatment in Champions League action last night: http://blog.dispatch.com/crew/2010/08/travesty.shtml A win would have been the first for an American side on Mexican soil, but the refs made sure that didn't happen.
  15. Holden has gone 90 in both of Bolton's games and Coyle raved after the game this weekend about his motor and tenacity. If he keeps it up, it will officially move me out of Bob's camp. He's never going to abandon the 4-4-2 and our best XI is clearly an amorphous 4-2-3-1/4-3-3 --------Bradley------Jones--------- Donovan-----Holden-----Dempsey -------------Altidore--------------- It'd be more of a diamond middle with Donovan and Dempsey free to roam and move up or track back into the midfield. We've got the wide midfielders with the intelligence and scoring ability to pull it off and if it's not Holden it could be one of the Feilhaber, Torres, Kljestan group.
  16. It was so glaringly obvious that hopefully he learned his lesson. I know Clint is a pretty atypical kind of player, you can't always see where he fits in a 4-4-2 because he isn't a classic winger and he isn't a target man, but seriously this has happened 3 times now. Figure it out.
  17. heck out these two ridiculous goals today from Rafa Marquez and Brian Ching. http://voices.washingtonpost.com/soccerinsider/2010/08/video_rafael_marquezs_golazo_f.html
  18. Holden went 90 again. Kljestan scored the opener for Anderlecht and went 90. Bradley went 90. Jermaine Jones went 90. Boca went 90. Here's Kljestan's goal from a great cross on the goal line:
  19. Scouting Report on Eric Lichaj in Europa League action today: http://theshinguardian.com/2010/08/19/scouting-report-eric-lichaj-vs-rapid-vienna/ Sounds like nothing transcendent, but the best left back prospect we've had in a while.
  20. I tweeted Andy Brassell about it (if any of you don't podcast the World Football Phone In, you should reevaluate that decision) and here is what he said: @andybrassell Dembélé significantly more flair, wd suit a wider attacking position.Dempsey there already physically, something for MD to work on Sounds like Dembele could have the same issues Clint did when he went to Fulham at the same age. Clint, as we know, used significantly more flair and significantly less physicality/defending when in MLS. Had to learn those things in England.
  21. Hughes just bought Moussa Dembele from AZ. He's a forward/winger who is 6'1, strong, technically good, scores goals, is creative and spontaneous and has good passing range. Wow, that sounds strikingly like a less experienced version of a player they already have.
  22. They got two away goals. They'll be fine.
  23. And apparently Milner is worth 3,000,000+ pounds + Stephen Ireland more than Mesut Ozil, lol. Man City needs to get a grip. If they keep paying premium prices for English scrubs like Lescott, Milner, Wright-Phillips and Barry they are going to keep finishing outside of the top 4.
  24. So is Mark Hughes going to have to be manager number 4 that doesn't know Clint Dempsey is his best attacking player until about 3-4 games in or was there another reason he was a sub today?
  25. Meatballs with accents. To be honest, I'm dubious. He's set up to fail. No money, high expectations from your supporters plus being the first American manager in Europe (the Premiership no less)? That's a potential for disaster.
