  1. . Who the [expletive] does he think he is? (besides a pedophile enabler?)HE THINKS HE'S GOD BECAUSE THAT'S HOW EVERYONE IN THAT TOWN AND FAN BASE HAS TREATED HIM FOR 45 YEARS. College football, in some cultures, = religion. For idiot townies like PSU fans, Alabama fans, Texas, insert die hard college football fan base here, their football team may as well be the Catholic Church and their coach may as well be the Pope. Unfortunately for that monster Sandusky, he won't be transferred to Rome or the next parish.

  3. It's still his fault for not putting forth the effort to understand the gravity of the situation. It's also still his fault that he fostered the kind of culture in a town that allowed someone to have unfettered access to victims in their schools, homes, his home and even PSU facilities. In a town where Paterno is god and football is everything, his right hand man had so much more leeway than the average pedophile. That lack of accountability is on Joe Pa. And I'm not talking about doddering old senile Joe Pa. I'm talking Joe Pa years ago when allegations first started coming out. But yes, in the big lineup of people who should have done more, the half-wit coward McQueary is #1.

  6. While I'm sure these guys feel awful to be involved with anything regarding this creep (let alone the charity he used in such a repulsive way), there's no evidence that any of these guys had knowledge of the acts. I'd imagine some lower level employees of the charity had some knowledge though. Ugh. Yeah I just thought it was pretty crazy. This was a high profile charity that he started for the clear purpose of sexually exploiting adolescent boys. It's clear that this guy was very, very connected and there are a lot of famous, influential people who I'm sure are absolutely gobsmacked about all of this.

  8. Members of the board of directors at the Second Mile Charity and Camp (founded by Jerry Sandusky, used by Sandusky to funnel victims to his clutches) include: Joe Paterno, Matt Millen, Andy Reid, Mark Wahlburg, Cal Ripken Jr, Dick Vermeil, Franco Harris, Arnold Palmer and Lou Holtz.
  9. Podcasting yesterday's Boers & Bernstein. Fun fact: Jerry Sandusky turned down the head coaching position at University of Virginia because he was "too committed" to his charity, the Second Mile.
  10. Truffle's dumb, clumsy analogies and playing the victim in this thread aside, if someone witnesses the anal raping of a child, they absolutely have a societal responsibility to personally notify the police and step forward as an eye witness. Not just stepping forward to their boss, but to the police. That is the bare minimum they are required as members of society to do. Also, my hyperbolic judgement of truffle as culturally complicit aside, claiming something so ridiculous as adhering to your employer's chain of command or bureaucratic channels of information was enough in this situation for Joe Pa and the graduate assistant to have done their duty as human beings is in my opinion a grossly inadequate, reprehensible argument in their defense. This is, and should be, a death sentence to Penn State's football program by way of the complete removal of the current coaching staff and most of the athletic department. It is also an indictment on the culture of college athletics and demagoguery of head football coaches in our country's institutions of higher learning.
  11. IT IS EVERYONE'S JOB TO GO TO THE POLICE. What the [expletive] would be your argument against it? Oh! I better not talk to the cops since I just told my boss. He'll talk to the cops and if I do too, they might open multiple reports and that'd be a paperwork nightmare for some poor police cleark. Bwaaaaahhh. If I saw a man anally raping a child in a shower, even if that shower was in his own house and I was only there because I was ROBBING HIM OF ALL HIS WORLDLY POSSESSIONS, I still call the cops. I raise bloody hell until someone pays enough attention and the guys is arrested. All of this of course after I attack the rapist where he stands and get the kid the hell out of that hell. What is wrong with you, truffle? I'm sitting here while I read the grand jury report wondering to myself how something this evil could fall through the cracks for so long and then I read your post and I realize it's because there are people like you in the world who will allow it.

  14. Stupid Beckham getting a stupid trophy now. It'd be hilarious is somehow Houston pulled it off though.
  15. Vermaelen was with Ajax and a member of the national team (so not execatly a great find), and he cost them 12 milion euros (so not exactly cheap) He's arguably their best player. He was a good value. I never said he was a diamond in the rough. Neither was Gervinho. Ream has looked lost a couple times tonight, but they're probably there for Brek Shea anyway. Guess who's training with Arsenal next month? Hint: not Tim Ream.
  16. Well apparently after all of the poaching, we've touched a German nerve. They called up Fabian Huerzeler to the u-19 camp. Probably why he's not on our Olympic roster.
  17. For France & Slovenia: G: Tim Howard, Bill Hamid DEF: D: Carlos Bocanegra, Timmy Chandler, Steve Cherundolo, Clarence Goodson, Alfredo Morales, Michael Orozco Fiscal, Oguchi Onyewu MID: Kyle Beckerman, Michael Bradley, Clint Dempsey, Maurice Edu, Fabian Johnson, Jermaine Jones, Robbie Rogers, Brek Shea, Danny Williams FW: Jozy Altidore, Edson Buddle, Landon Donvoan, DaMarcus Beasley He can't plead MLS playoffs as a reason to leave John out and it'd be questionable with Gonzalez because he called in Landon.

  19. I question the validity of this poll. 8.5 million people watched Game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals in N America. 23.5 million watched Game 6 of the NBA finals. Your poll invalidates casual fans. I'm guessing the latest poll is pretty recent, and since there isn't an NBA right now it's popularity is pretty damn low. Casual fan, yes.

  21. Pujols may not have been affected by LaRussa's status, but LaRussa may have been affected by Pujols's status. Yeah, this is how I look at it. Which is why I said somewhere earlier that LaRussa's decision may have been influenced by Pujols' decision (if he's made one). Unless ownership has gone to Tony and said they don't have the money or won't spend the money necessary to bring Pujols back, this is dubious. Yeah, it's not like Pujols and LaRussa had a close relationship. I don't understand what point you're trying to make. Of course they're close. What I'm saying is that the ball is in the owner's court. If the money is equal, Pujols will stay in St. Louis. Pujols hasn't hit the open market so he doesn't know for sure what his market value is so he has no idea if the money the Cardinals offered last summer is equal or not. Thus, Pujols has no idea whether or not he's staying or going at this point, Tony has no idea if Pujols is staying or going unless ownership told Tony they weren't going to resign Pujols, and since that's not very realistic, the obvious conclusion to draw (re: the non-pipe dream Cubs fan wishful thinking conclusion) is that his retirement and Pujols' return are going to have very little to do with one another. Considering his age, the physical toll the season took on him, his prolific winning career, the fact that he has the opportunity to retire after being at the helm of one of if not the most improbable World Series champions of all time and that he's more than likely going to win Manager of the Year, now would seem like a pretty ideal time to bow out on top regardless of Pujols' somewhat uncertain status.

  23. Albert's looking for a long-term deal. Tony was never going to manage past his contract which ended after next season. Coming back to St Louis could never have been predicated on wanting to only play for LaRussa because everyone knew retirement was close. Besides, Tony doesn't manage for any other teams either. One may have an effect on the other, but I'd have a hard time believing anything other than offering him top dollar will have an impact on where Albert plays the rest of his career.
  24. I liked Alejandro Moreno. Impressive as a first-time pundit in his second language. "You can live with behavior like this if a player is producing on the field, but Marquez is not. I don't think they can justify the troubles he causes."
