  1. Donovan as trequartista really works, keeps him involved.
  2. Still suffering with our end product. Final pass not there. Love roaming Donovan.
  3. Jozy looks like a new man. Such confidence and his runs against the offside trap have been better than I've seen from him.
  4. Exciting news. http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/soundersfcblog/2016090590_zakuani_on_his_national_team_f.html Steve Zakuani, pre-injury, was the best left-winger in MLS and a top 5 player in the league.
  5. Massive move. Liverpool are nuts to lose him. Btw, shnsa, Park Chu Young sucks.
  6. This Arsenal stuff is like someone in a fantasy draft who wanted to think they were smart by not blowing a ton of money early on the glamour names and then they have to scramble and overpay for someone like Thomas Jones in the late rounds because they need a running back.
  7. Benayoun is being reported as done, which is a deal killer for Deuce. Probably cheaper than Clint too.
  8. Arteta to Arsenal in a very like-for-like (including fragility) for Cesc. Dempsey would always be replacing Nasri w/Arshavin so that isn't a deal killer. Poor David Moyes. That guy needs a transfer himself.
  9. You can join me in furiously refreshing this site on MLS's website for Yanks Abroad transfer news. http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/article/2011/08/31/transfer-deadline-day-live-updates
  10. Updates: Uncapped German American Daniel Williams was purchased from Freiburg by Hoffenheim where he joines US youth internationals Gyau & Renken as well as future senior international Fabian Johnson. I like it. Jermaine Jones has left Schalke, no one knows where yet, Greg Seltzer is speculating QPR. The Dempsey situation is locked up tight, but Seltzer is reporting interest from "a Spanish league Champions League entrant." so Valencia or Villarreal? Not crazy about Velencia with their financial situation. Edit - http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/soccer-insider/post/wednesday-kickaround-us-national-team-stuart-holden-gale-agbossoumonde-michael-bradley-us-open-cup-dc-united/2011/08/31/gIQA2YGorJ_blog.html There's also a youtube clip in that link of Mike Bradley saying hello to the picturesque city of Verona.
  11. Holy crap! Fulham just bought Bryan Ruiz for $16mil. Aka, Clint's asking price. Is he actually going?
  12. I dont think it will happen because they won't have time to replace him and frankly, they're relegation candidates without him. Fringe candidates to be sure, but it's still risky.
  13. In non-conjecture Yanks Abroad news, Michael Bradley will be unveiled at Chievo Verona today. Great move, I believe Italy suits him to a t and we will see him getting plenty of playing time once he gets settled in with the squad and learns the language (which he has proven adept at in the past). In total conjecture Yanks Abroad news, the Clint Dempsey saga continues. Everyone wants him because he's a god damn attacking third swiss army knife who works his ass off. http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/article/2011/08/30/american-exports-sevilla-pass-dempsey-others-pick-chase Sevilla is out. Arsenal is in. Which makes a ton of sense. Watching that debacle on Sunday and the color guy kept talking about how disappointing Arshavin has been because they need his skills at being able to plug in as needed anywhere in the attack but he just doesn't work hard enough to justify his wages. Sounds like the anti-Clint. I'd really love him to go to Arsenal because I need to pick a team permanently. I liked Chelsea when they had Mourinho and the prime years of Lampard, Drogba and Essien, but I never totally bought in. If an American was playing a significant role on Arsenal, I'd buy in.
  14. Deuce not coming for the CR game. Presumably he'll be available for Belgium (unless he makes a move). Fabian Johnson is not eligible to play in either friendlies because his one-time switch paper work hasn't been processed in time, but he is staying to train and get settled with the squad.
  15. Dempsey. Sevilla. Aston Villa. Roma. Napoli. http://www.noshortcorners.com/2011/08/nnoying.html Id be surprised if any of those happened, but who knows. I'd love to see him at Sevilla.
  16. Bradley to Chievo - http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/article/2011/08/29/american-exports-bradley-set-move-italy
  17. George John to Blackburn was killed at the last minute after agreeing to terms. This is because they are going to fire their manager I assume. The greatest thing about United and City (other than how fun their head to head games will be) is that Barcelona would play either of them off the park. Also, Danny Wellbeck can play. He does more for me than Chicharito.
  18. Best, most insightful article ever written about Jozy: http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/article/2011/08/26/armchair-analyst-altidore-rising-low-countries
  19. It also means that, in his own opinion, he has zero chance of making it to the Mannschaft. Yeah. With all the recent defections to the US team as plan B, I'm getting the sense that Lowe and the German FA have no problem being straight with guys who aren't in their plans. They're pretty up front about it. US Soccer has no problem calling somebody up just to cap tie them and then never contact them again for years. Especially Mexican dual-nationalists. Also this, just because I think it's funny: http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6086/6079191003_0894d24456_o.jpg
  20. Some nice pedigree: http://www.socceramerica.com/article/43490/usa-welcomes-european-champ-fabian-johnson.html I'm really looking forward to seeing this kid play for us. One-time switch means even though these are friendlies, he's cap tied.
  21. I think he's really just treating friendlies like friendlies. I don't think results matter to him right now. Bob never had that luxury. He's taking extended looks at a lot of players. Mix, Gatt and dudes like that will be in the Olympics.
  22. US Soccer
  23. K-Hamid, Howard; D-Bocanegra, Castillo, Chandler, Cherundolo, Goodson, Loyd, Orozco Fiscal, Pearce, Ream; MF-Beckerman, Dempsey, Edu, F Johnson, Kljestan, Larentowicz, Rogers, Shea, Torres; F-Agudelo, Altidore, Bunbury, Donovan No Lichaj, Jones, Bradley and who the F is F Johnson? I could see all the exclusions making moves at the end of the window which would be an excuse. Edit - http://www.ussoccer.com/News/Mens-National-Team/2011/08/Klinsmann-Names-Roster-for-CRC-BEL.aspx
  24. Yeah he's gone in January. For sure. http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/article/2011/08/25/american-exports-six-players-watch-transfer-season There's also a Michael Bradley nugget in there that I'm going to ignore until something substantial surfaces. Edit - Spoke too soon on Josmer. He's netted twice today. http://www.noshortcorners.com/2011/08/j-j-j-jozy-updated.html ITS ALL HAPPENING
  25. Holy crap, I hadn't seen this goal by Brek Shea against Toronto. The man crush grows. Steals the ball, lays it off, gets it back, 30 yard run, right footed blast to the upper 90 from 30 yards out. Skills. Btw, Jozy just scored again in red hot UEFA action. Makes it 4 in 3.
