  1. LA 1, NY 0. after the whistle, Rafa Marquez throws the ball at Landon, Cristman shoves Marquez, Juninho grabs Kiel's arm who immediately flops grabbing his face, Marquez sees and immediately also flops clutching his face too. High comedy. Zero chance that worthless douche suits up in MLS next year.
  2. It seems all Cardinal fans feel the need to try and slam cub fans more than just enjoy their world series runs. Sad group of people. This describes my entire office, and the STL area in general. It just doesnt make any sense. Are White Sox fans like this? St Louis just has a giant inferiority complex.
  3. HEY GUYS WHAT'S GONG ON. THE WHOLE THEO THING, HUH? PRETTY COOL, YOU GUYS. EXCITING STUFF. WELP, SEE YOU LATER.
  4. did u sex him I let a lot of these comments go in the Theo thread. But I think it's time to reign this kind of comment back in. Thanks! You have heard the "who wants to sex mutumbo" story, right? No...missed that one. http://deadspin.com/206118/five-tiny-tidbits-on-the-houston-rockets
  5. Yeah he looked good in the Emirates Cup, but they've wanted him since last year. There's something to be said in MLS for players playing to the level of their supporting cast, especially young players, but I still don't see it for him at that level.
  6. Remember Michael Parkhurst? Please explain to me if I'm crazy, but the difference between Michael Parkhurst and Tim Ream is that Parky is right footed, about 2 inches shorter than Ream, as good with the ball and WAY WAY better at defending. And he plays for Nordjesjalaand. He would never get a sniff at the EPL. Let alone Arsenal. Is this because Ream plays with Henry? The left footed thing isn't that big a deal.
  7. Vermaelen was with Ajax and a member of the national team (so not execatly a great find), and he cost them 12 milion euros (so not exactly cheap) He's arguably their best player. He was a good value. I never said he was a diamond in the rough. Neither was Gervinho. Ream has looked lost a couple times tonight, but they're probably there for Brek Shea anyway.
  8. Don't know if I agree with that. They're cheap, but they're scouts find solid values. Szczesny, Vermaelen, Ox-Chamberlain and Gervinho are great buys.
  9. Arsenal scouts will be in Dallas tonight watching Ream: http://www.soccerbyives.net/soccer_by_ives/2011/10/report-arsenal-scouting-ream.html Not sure why. Seriously, he's really talented, but at 24 with some issues that will be very exposed by the pace of play in the EPL (poor decision making, poor positioning and bad in the air) I'm not clear on why they think he's worth more than 4mil.
  10. In yet another pleasant surprise from Germany, we have a 20 year old afrogermanican striker at Dortmund. Made the 18 last weekend after netting 8 in 10 for their second team. http://usa10kit.com/2011/10/25/terrence-boyd-on-the-rise-in-dortmund-due-for-a-u-s-call/
  11. Man. I wanna live in an MLS city.
  12. FOX won the World Cup rights for 2018 & 22. That's a long ways away so obviously who knows how it'll look, but ESPN's coverage is top notch and I'm no fan of FOX's champions league coverage currently compared to ESPN's. Edit - But I love the competition among networks to cover the sport. This means we'll have English speaking broadcasts over three networks in 2015. ESPN, FOX and NBC Sports. That will be like 15 channels.
  13. That will never happen. There's a better chance of MLS instituting relegation than that.

  15. For me it's like the Bears. The Bears are in trouble, but last year they won a lot of games. In reality, they would be closer to a Superbowl right now if they lost a bunch of games last year and fired Mike Martz, Jerry Angelo and maybe Lovie. Instead were wasting another year of development and Jay Cutler is probably going to be murdered. If Kilnsmann isn't the guy, we're getting this experiement over sooner rather than later, which is good because he was going to get this job at some point or another. If he sucks, it's better he has it now, rather than 2015. If he's the best guy for the job, then it's better he has it now than 2015. Status Quo wasn't getting us anywhere under Bradley. You can't say with any confidence these last 5 results would have been different under his helm, because we were clearly trending down under his leadership.
  16. This is worth a read: http://theshinguardian.com/2011/10/12/the-us-falls-to-ecuador-1-0-in-anything-but-a-bullfight/#entry my feeling is that were losing at the cost of trying to rework the foundations. That's a worthwhile sacrifice. Too much of the Bob Bradley era was about winning on the day and stunting our future in the process. That eventually caught up with them. If the goal is to eventually contend for a World Cup, to reference something referenced in that article, a 0-1 loss where we dominate possession and work on combinations brings us closer to that goal than a 0-0 draw with Argentina and a fluke 2-0 win against Spain with nothing but hopeful long balls and counter attacks.
  17. I agree and I'd like to see Danny Williams there. I'd like to see a Danny Williams-Michael Bradley pairing. If Beckerman is going to play I want him and Bradley. I'm not sweating Jurgen's record. I'm no believer, but I think I know what he's doing. He's doing what Bradley either didn't have the guts or the job security to do, he's being thorough. Bradley would experiment with formations or new players and the second it broke bad, he'd pack it in and role out the bucket 4-4-2. Klinsmann is persistently and thoroughly running through possible formations and players. I feel like because of him I have a better grasp on our depth than I did under Bradley at any point. I fell like we actually have more depth and I think he gets no small amount of credit for it being a German superstar and convincing these Germanicans to come to our camps. Fabian Johnson will be our left back. Timmy Chandler our right back. Williams is a valuable, young contributor. I'm very happy Gooch is healthy. He can't do it all, but he can do some things very well. His chemistry with Boca is valuable on a team where chemistry is a little lacking. Clint Dempsey is the boss, Brek Shea is the wild card and Jozy for the first time in his career actually looks good playing as the target striker. He can actually receive the ball and hold it instead of panicking and either doing a stupid one v one move or skittishly getting rid of it. It's weird to have a string of such bad results and actually feel comfortable with the team's direction, but how can you not? We're getting younger, we're getting more talented and there seems to be a method to JK's madness. There will certainly be a time when the results will absolutely trump progress, but I'm ok for now. Juan Agudelo...I've gotten into some arguments about him vs Jozy Altidore over at gatewayredbirds with some Altidore haters. Please...Juan is a very busy player but he is not sharp, he's not a finisher and he lacks direction. That will all come with time and I certainly think he has a bright future, but Jozy at his age was a better prospect. He's still only 22 and he's the best pure striker we've had since McBride. Agudelo needs to focus on breaking into the Red Bulls first eleven. It will be interesting to see where Landon slots in when he and Clint are both playing. By the way, call me crazy, but I'd rather have Brek Shea than Javier Hernandez.
  18. If you look like a hundred pages back you'll see me post something about him being watched by Manchester United when he was like 17. 50 pages or so back there's Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid. Schalke made an offer that got rejected in the summer. Pretty clear that European scouts, even if he doesn't end up going to a major power like what is being rumored, think he's as real as we do. He might be the chosen one without ever being on the dreaded too much hype too soon list. A serious accomplishment in and of itself in the US Soccer world.
  19. Liverpool, City, Chelsea and United with City and Liverpool being the strongest suitors, are inquiring about Brek Shea according to his agent.
  20. Other than Clint (who was a monster), our finishing was atrocious today. Decent win, good performance. Really, really like the look of the new guy, Danny Williams. At this rate of improvement Break Shea will be our best player in 2014, Jozy was sharp and for once looked like the speed of the international game was easy for him (playing time!) and it was great to see Gooch back. Edu was bad, Bradley needs to start there. It's interesting that one of the biggest questions in the us soccer community is how we get our best (black), inner city (again, black) athletes to play soccer and the other big question is how good would we be if those kids played soccer instead of basketball or football and here we have 4 sons of black serviceman (Johnson, Chandler, Williams and Jones) who were raised playing soccer in Germany who can start for our national team. So almost 40% of our starters come from one tiny, specific population group (black servicemen stationed in germany who had kids with German women). It's pretty astounding and at least answers the second question. Which is to say, we'd be really, really, really good if soccer was as popular as basketball and football in the black community. REALLY good. Were pretty good now and all we had to do was find some African Americans who were raised in foreign countries.
  21. If I point out how wrong this is, do I have to expound? I'm not really interested in that. But it's wrong.
  22. http://www.mlssoccer.com/videos/?catid=114 Michael Farfan and Andy Najar with some blisteringly awesome goals last night.
  23. This is great news: http://www.soccerbyives.net/soccer_by_ives/2011/09/johnsons-one-time-switch-to-join-usmnt-approved-by-fifa.html
  24. http://www.ussoccer.com/News/Mens-National-Team/2011/09/Klinsmann-Calls-22-Players-for-October-Friendlies.aspx GOALKEEPERS (3): Bill Hamid (D.C.United), Tim Howard (Everton), Nick Rimando (Real Salt Lake) DEFENDERS (7): Carlos Bocanegra (Rangers), Timmy Chandler (Nürnberg), Steve Cherundolo (Hannover 96), Clarence Goodson (Brondby), Oguchi Onyewu (Sporting Lisbon), Michael Orozco Fiscal (San Luis), Tim Ream (New York Red Bulls), Jonathan Spector (Birmingham City) MIDFIELDERS (7): Kyle Beckerman (Real Salt Lake), Michael Bradley (Chievo Verona), Clint Dempsey (Fulham), Maurice Edu (Rangers), Jeff Larentowicz (Colorado Rapids), Brek Shea (FC Dallas), Danny Williams (Hoffenheim) FORWARDS (5): Juan Agudelo (New York Red Bulls), Jozy Altidore (AZ Alkmaar), DaMarcus Beasley (Puebla), Teal Bunbury (Sporting Kansas City), Landon Donovan (LA Galaxy) Gooch back in with a shout. Bradley back in. Danny Williams (one of the afrogermanican crew) gets his first call in. Beasley back from the dead (he has apparently been the best left winger in Mexico this season).
