  1. Jones should have at least 1. Give me some Brek and Agudelo dynamism!
  2. That first half formation can go [expletive] itself. I'm trying not to get worked up about a game without Dempsey, Holden, Altidore etc. Orozco is a zero. Torres is a zero unless you cater to his strengths which means he isn't good enough to matter 95% of the time against good teams. Castillo is certainly better than the majority of our left backs, but give me Lichaj next time. Buddle, zero. Beckerman has been better than I thought he'd be.
  3. Big MLS news. NBC and NBC Sports (Versus) have acquired MLS and USMNT rights. http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/article/2011/08/10/mls-nbc-sports-agree-three-year-broadcast-deal I'm not sure what this means for FSC and ESPN's MLS coverage or USMNT coverage, but it's great news. Higher production value and more games televised nationally. I'm very excited.
  4. Adu to Chivas USA as a DP. Oooookay.
  5. I've seen this movie before: http://www.boston.com/sports/soccer/articles/2011/08/08/it_was_a_sweet_16_celebration/ Damn you, naturalization process!
  6. Montreal Impact's log and uniforms are like a cross between the old Quebec Nordiques and Inter Milan, which is a great idea because Inter has the best jersey's in sport.
  7. Great news re: Chandler. Jozy's Run on the goal was very physical, shrugged off his marker at the last second to get free. Hopefully he can keep the physicality without card troubles.
  8. Well damn. Timmy Chandler played 90 today. He's switching to Germany.
  9. Chandler out, Zach Loyd in. Minor knock. Kljestan and Diskerrud scored today. I expect all three to be in Belgium.
  10. Good article explaining the Mexico-USA soccer rivalry: http://www.grantland.com/story/_/id/6835319/on-border
  11. More stuff: Bill Hamid mixtape - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABmBY-5Gum8&feature=youtu.be&hd=1 Mexican reaction to the hire - http://www.mlssoccer.com/news/article/2011/08/04/postcard-mexico-how-klinsmann-affects-border-war
  12. Btw, I expect a new face in the Belgium friendly. Especially knowing Klinsy's appreciation of wing play. Ole Gunnar has a legit stud on his hands in Josh Gatt: http://www.tv2.no/sport/fotball/tippeligaen/se-soloraidet-som-holder-molde-paa-stoe-gullkurs-3552162.htm Click the link for a run, ankle breaker in the box, top shelf finish that looks like me playing as Arjen Robben in FIFA 11 on my phone.
  13. NIce article on Hamid's reaction to playing for his country and with his hero, Tim Howard. http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/soccer-insider/post/dc-uniteds-bill-hamid-reflects-on-his-first-call-up-to-the-us-national-soccer-team/2011/08/04/gIQA5pORuI_blog.html
  14. I'll preface this by saying I know this is his first camp and he probably has some questions about a lot of fringe players he wants answered. Like: These are all duh's. Love: Some youth and some (possibly unfairly) estranged faces. I like. Hate: I love Orozco getting out of the doghouse from the Olympic red card, I love Heath Pearce being there just because we need competency at Left Back, Torres I don't believe is international quality yet, but in lieu of the missing Holden I like him getting some looks from Klinsy. Kyle Beckerman and Rico Clark? What? There aren't enough central mids on this roster? We need these schmoes? Beasley? I know Klinsy loves him some wide play, but he hasn't been up to snuff for years. Buddle? Meh. I'd rather see Charlie Davies or Teal Bunbury. What's clear is he is letting some important Euro guys take some time to get in with their club team in training. That's good. I'd also love to see Bobby Convey tried at left back now that Bob is gone.
  15. Me too. He's a physical specimen. I don't know about his maturity and positioning, but he's an absolute monster and I've seen him make some serious saves. Big time, big league saves.
  16. Some roster names for the Mexico-pay-off-Bradley's-remaining-contract-cash-grab *cough* I mean friendly are slowly leaking. Timmy Chandler, Stevie C, Bill Hamid, Tim Howard (controversial move, Klinsy), Freddy Adu and Juan Agudelo.
  17. Dont look now, but Vermes finally seems to have figured out how to get Bunbury, Bravo and Sapong on the field at the same time. Fairly lethal by MLS standards. I don't know if it's an attitude or work ethic issue because it's very, very clear he's the best forward on that team.
  18. One thing is for sure, this isn't a Bob Bradley press conference. He likes to talk.
  19. Soccer style as cultural identity is a cheesy old trope that I don't cotton to most of the time, but he's very concerned with finding the American style or identity. That's a waste of time. We already play an American style. The team under Bob Bradley was relentless and always fighting to come back. Obviously what he's talking about isn't that simple, it's about instilling the style at the youth level on up, but the deficit is in the talent, not the style. I am excited about his ideas regarding finding and promoting latino players. Like USS said, his assistants are crucial. He's a great motivator, has great ideas and has the charisma and track record to command the team's respect, but we need a tactical guy for sure.
  20. Klinsy presser live stream: http://www.ussoccer.com/Klinsmann-Live-Press-Conference.aspx
  21. Btw, not that anyone cares, but I've totally talked myself into the Juergen Klinsmann era. Also, I just want to watch Clint Dempsey play soccer and Derrick Rose play basketball again. Baseball is getting really boring. Two weeks until the EPL kicks off?
  22. His biggest managerial success was the '06 German team's 3rd place finish in the World Cup on home soil when they weren't expected to contend, but the credibility of that accomplishment is undermined by the fact that Joachim Lowe was his top assistant/tactical guru and the team has only gotten better since Germany replaced Klinsy with Lowe full time (second place in Euro's/3rd in South Africa though they were by far the second most impressive team and one of the clear favorites for Euro 2012 and Brazil 2014). Also, his stint at Bayern was really, really bad. How much of that was due to the dysfunctional front office nonsense between Ruminegge, Beckenbauer and Hoeness is unclear, but some of his tactical decisions (especially his use of Landon Donovan which is obviously troubling from a US perspective) were inexplicably awful.
  23. His tactical shortcomings are easily masked on the international stage with a competent assistant. I also hadn't considered, but really like what you said about how he'll approach playing inferior CONCACAF teams.
  24. Grant Wahl tweeted an insider told him we wouldn't be surprised by the selection. Klinssmann.
  25. Well this is probably awesome news for Fire fans.
