    I'm just south of Denver so its about 50 minutes to Colorado Springs. Just think of Soler had been healthy all year - Iowa could have had a potential 1-4 of Alcantara, Baez, Bryant and Soler. Nice! I'm in Castle Rock. Saw the I-Cubs earlier this year, also on $3 craft beer night. Wada was sharp, Baez was not.

    :bye: Really going to miss Soriano. As much as I know this is the right thing to do (assuming they get reasonable value in return) it still really sucks to see him go.

    In a league where you can't spend big on amateur talent anymore, using your excess cash for "free access" to quality veterans may be the best option. Goony is dead on with this, imo. Controlled veterans are really the only way to stockpile young talent quickly. The downside for many teams is it takes available cash to get controlled veterans. The good news for us is we aren't one of those teams. If Lee takes major prospects to reel in, obviously he's off the table. But I love the idea for picking up quality vets that are largely salary dumps.

    I've heard this notion a few times but I can't imagine Hoyer not trying to pick up some reasonably priced free agents with 2+ years of control in the off season. It's the easiest/only way to turn $ (which they have a ton of laying around) into long term assets. If they pick up Edwin Jackson and Kyle Lohse in the offseason, they may find themselves near contention with some surprise performances. If not they Maholm them into long term assets at the deadline.

    I think it's just a regional slang thing. In the 619, switch is just another way of saying "left-handed".

    I'd actually like to see Soriano stay and platoon with Dejesus. Last year Soriano was at: 271 .312 .500 .812 against LHP. Dejesus has a similar career OPS against RHP: .292 .368 .447 .815 It's a lot of money to be playing for the small part of the platoon but if the other option is to move him and eat most of the costs then I'd rather capitalize on what he still does well. I'm not completely against the idea or anything but I don't see it happening. Soriano cried about not batting 5th everyday, I can't imagine him taking to a platoon. You're probably right. I'm anxious to see how this unfolds.

    Love the signing, especially as the Right-hand facing part of the platoon. He handles righties really well. Even last year was decent.

    2000's...and no way is he obscure with that weird jobu stuff. Unless you're one of those weird people who considers 2000 the last year of the 1990's, which I guess is technically correct. Not one of those weird people...the futility just blurs together after a while.
