  1. ...what, seriously? You're disappointed that the Cubs aren't mentioned in rumors about blockbuster deals that actually become something about 2% of the time? Go anonymously tip someone off that the Cubs are "interested" in some big name; it'll be just about as valid as most of this stuff.
  2. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=tsn-tigerscubscontinueto&prov=tsn&type=lgns Would you give up Cashner/Vitters/spare part(s) for Granderson?

  4. Paying a 34-year-old middle infielder with bad knees $6 mil each of the next two seasons isn't ideal, but they could do and have done a lot worse than a career .369 OBP (no season OBP lower than .358 since 2001; IsoD of .061, 0.11, .085 the last three seasons) in the 2-hole for a year or two.

  6. I hear Steve Phillips plans to set up shop and do mock press conferences.
  7. The sports section of another message board. I'll follow up if I find out to whom we can attribute the quote.
  8. Nothing Kaplan says is worth much and I have no idea who wrote this, but Bradley and Miles for Milwood would be nice.
  9. http://exhibits.baseballhalloffame.org/dressed_to_the_nines/images/al_1959_washington.gif 1959 Washington Senators The Senators - specifically, the franchise that was the Senators and is now the Twins - did this design 50 years before the Nats did, a design the franchise kept when it moved to Minnesota. And then the expansion Senators, the franchise that is now the Rangers, did it again for most of the next decade after that before moving to Texas. The Nats may have the geographic claim to the style by virtue of presently playing in DC, but the franchise that is now the Twins was the progenitor of the design, not the other way around.
  10. Specifically, because I imagine they'd need the trade chips from the White Sox farm system in addition to their own to get the deal done. However, it raises the question of why the Angels would want to displace Kendry Morales from first base for an older, slower and worse player.
  11. http://www.chicagonow.com/blogs/soxnet/2009/11/report-sox-pads-angels-talking-three-way-deal-involving-konerko-gonzalez-and-prospects.html White Sox, Angels and Padres discussing possible three-way deal. White Sox get Adrian Gonzalez Angels get Paul Konerko Padres get Sox + Angels prospects
  12. I think that was the point...

  14. Not that he'd be worth what he'd require in a trade, but Granderson's splits vs. LHP/RHP were drastic enough in favor of his ability to hit RHP (.275/.358/.539/.897 BA/OBP/SLG/OPS) and complete inability to do the opposite (.183/.245/.239/.484) that I feel like if you platooned him in CF with Johnson or a similar player capable of hitting LHP, you'd end up with a reasonably productive platoon at the position.
  15. ees so reeeeeeal
  16. Guess we know who wins your award, Fluffy.
  17. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=ap-diamondbacks-tracy&prov=ap&type=lgns Arizona declined a $7 mil option on him. Lefty-hitting corner infielder with some pop, corner outfield spots in a pinch. Would he be a good fit on the bench for the right price?
  18. I can't put my finger on it, honestly. It might just be that the guy's a total loon, and I mean that in all seriousness.
  19. http://photos-c.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc3/hs041.snc3/12837_329590160155_113837095155_9712760_5655431_n.jpg How did Swisher get a flag that quickly? He was waving it within about two minutes of the final out. Depressed silence.
  20. Other guys who just got a ring who make you say : Eric Hinske Damaso Marte Jose Molina Nick Swisher There's at least three or four every year who get a ring by virtue of being the backup catcher or the 24th or 25th man on a World Series-winning roster. Do we realize that So Taguchi and David Eckstein have two rings EACH?
  21. Will he actually be in any trouble over this? For one thing, he'll be a free agent; it's not as if he's presently under contract to a team that can withhold his pay or suspend him. For another, if you believe his story, he was at a shooting range. I don't know what Nicaraguan gun laws are like, but presumably, the guns owned by a shooting range are legal and licensed or, if the gun belonged to Padilla and he was discharging it at a public shooting range, it was equally legal and licensed.
