  1. Was he? I tend to believe that if a guy still produces in the counting stats even with poor rate stats (which is sort of Soriano's entire career), he can still be considered reasonably productive, subjectively. Am I wrong?
  2. He did have two fairly productive years in Texas. It's not as if he was a slouch with the Yankees, though, so it's a matter of whether you believe those seasons were a product of the ballpark, Jaramillo's coaching, neither, both or "other."
  3. wow this sure didn't last long, did it?
  4. "It's gotta be the shoes, folks, it's gotta be the shoes!" Yeah thanks Chip...
  5. Somewhere, a Houston Chronicle baseball writer's head is exploding.
  6. Guarantees a big market World Series too. It'll be a Los Angeles vs. New York or Philly, one way or another. Has Lidge finally washed the taste of Pujols' ball out of his mouth?
  7. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=ap-astros-managersearch&prov=ap&type=lgns I, for one, would welcome Ned Yost back into the NL Central.
  8. August 25, 2004. In that same game, Hawkins would blow the save and Corey would homer to win the game with 2 outs and a man at third base. It's worth noting that no video exists of Bako's home run and Pat's home run call on the radio is so incredulous that it leads me to believe the whole thing may have been some sort of mass hallucination experienced by the 40,000 fans and other broadcasters and staff at Wrigley that day. Where's Zambrano's no-hitter on this list, folks? A hurricane and Drayton McLane being a complete [expletive] ("St. Louis? Kansas City? Tampa Bay? Absolutely not! We'll be able to play in Houston! Really!") forcing the series to Wrigley Field North, 23,000 fans show up on less than a day's notice and Big Z breaks out the no-hit stick and beats the Astros over the head with it. Epic stuff.
  9. Well, yeah... Pujols is what, 40? He can't play the field forever.
  10. As I understand it, the second bankruptcy hurdle has to clear (no indication at all that it'll be a problem) and then the sale has to close financially.
  11. Monday, Nov. 16—AL and NL Rookie of the Year awards Tuesday, Nov. 17—AL Cy Young Award Wednesday, Nov. 18—AL and NL Manager of the Year awards Thursday, Nov. 19—NL Cy Young Award Monday, Nov. 23—AL Most Valuable Player award Tuesday, Nov. 24—NL Most Valuable Player award http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=ap-bbwaaawards&prov=ap&type=lgns
  12. Nice to know I can enjoy the postseason now.
  13. Only half of that bothers me.
  14. Great read. The corpulent benefits of those seats and what they cost are both shocking in their own way.
  15. I'm still holding out faint hope for a Rockies/Twins series.
  16. It's going to get a lot, lot worse as the Yankees advance. The entitlement that fanbase feels and vocalizes at every opportunity is a frightening thing.
  17. Schadenfreude keeps just fine overnight and there's nothing wrong with enjoying a nice, tall glass of it the next day.
  18. Cardinals complaining that the white towels in the stands caused Holliday to lose the ball :-)) :-))
  19. I've always said he looks like a grey-haired, goateed Dan Aykroyd. No one ever agrees with me, though...
  20. Upper 20s = earflapped hats again = :-))
  21. Molina is such a cerebral player that he was trying to psych out the runner into trying to come home after taking third because he's just that good and that smart. Also the ball was poorly rubbed up.
  22. Buck Martinez sounds like he's eternally stuck doing a bad Bob Hope imitation.
