  1. Cole Hamels out because his wife just went into labor, apparently.
  2. Woof. Triple digits right down the middle. Two more wins please.
  3. I couldn't hear it from standing room, but Soriano's home run ball makes an audible *clunk* as it hits the top of the batter's eye in center. Ball was hit so far and so high I thought he popped it up at first.
  4. Between him and Heath Bell, I'm fairly sure the two of them could bodily ingest any other closer in the majors.
  5. Pretty darn close. 2004, 2007, 2008, 2009. Red Sox are 9-1 against the Angels in three previous years with two sweeps. Angels have to feel like they're reliving the same bad dream every year.
  6. I am hoping for copious amounts of schadenfreude in this series. Mountains of it.
  7. By then, there will be no need for archaic media like "highlight reels" because they'll just beam the games directly into your mind where you can store clips in your brain-installed hard drive.
  8. Someday we'll go all da way yeah someday we'll go all day way I liked it. One o' these years one of us is going to have reason to do a highlight reel that ends in a WS victory and it's going to be two hours of Go Cubs Go looping over game footage.
  9. http://i.cdn.turner.com/sivault/si_online/covers/images/2009/0928_mid.jpg SI curse lives...
  10. That's just how Miguel Cabrera says hello.
  11. Gus Johnson calling baseball would be beyond epic.
  12. First worthwhile evening programming they've shown since last year's play-in game.
  13. Manny is by far the lesser of two evils here and it's not close.
  14. The team was officially announced as "on the market" on Opening Day 2007, so it's taken two and a half years. I thought it got the bankruptcy approval already, but today's news story says differently. Regardless, the sale still has to close and despite all of that, the AP story says that Ricketts will take over day-to-day control of the team by the end of the month. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=ap-cubssale&prov=ap&type=lgns
  15. He would have given the home plate ump a black guy.
  16. What time do the Cubs play tonight? ... :(
  17. No, really. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/recap?gid=291004119 Ausmus managed the Dodgers' regular season finale, complete with his own coaching staff of "bench coach" Mark Loretta, "hitting coach" Jim Thome and "bullpen coach" Jeff Weaver. Ausmus made the pitching changes, notified the home plate umpire of substitutions and changes and even inserted himself as a pinch-runner. And for his efforts, he was rewarded with a win. http://losangeles.dodgers.mlb.com/media/video.jsp?content_id=7011247&c_id=la One of those terrific bits of baseball minutiae that you can only find on the last day of the season.
  18. SI.com by way of Yahoo! says 1 year at about $8 mil. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=tsn-trevorhoffmanreporte&prov=tsn&type=lgns
  19. :-))
  20. Players whose season numbers make you go "seriously?", either above or below expectations. David Aardsma: 3-6, 38/42 in saves, 71.1 IP, 80 K, 34 BB
  21. A network that can't do baseball coverage to save its life and a network I don't get. ... Tough choice.
  22. Ethier was acquired from Oakland in the Milton Bradley trade.
  23. Well, there's that. See everyone in February when Crazy Lou's Diner and Truck Stop reopens for another season.
