  1. No surprises, but the Opening Day lineup per Muskat: SS Theriot RF Fukudome 1B Lee 3B Ramirez CF Byrd LF Soriano 2B Fontenot C Soto P Zambrano Rookie reliever James Russell takes no. 40 as he looks to make his big league debut; infielder Chad Tracy keeps the no. 9 he wore in the spring. And now... Everyone ready for the season? Are you ready to dominate? Be dominated? Ready to be on the winning end of a blowout? The losing end? Are you ready for the adrenaline of trailing all game only to come back and win late? The despair of leading all game only to lose it in the 9th? Are you ready to lose games we should have won? Win games we should have lost? Are you ready for the singles, the doubles, the triples, the longballs? The steals, the pickoffs, the throws, the assists? The strikeouts, the walks, the balks, the hits? The exhilaration, the disappointment, the screaming, the silence? Are you ready?
  2. Not crazy at all. He wore 15 ever so briefly before swapping with Sonny Jackson for his no. 16. http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r71/bcvm22/sigzeon/aramstarwars.jpg Not the most dignified of photographic evidence to confirm your memory, but you can clearly see that the second numeral on his back there is a 5. Being the uni number disciple that I am, I love this feature, even if the Baseball Almanac's had the same data with less flair for a while now and Casey Ignarski's page has been doing this for the Cubs for however long he's been at it. My one complaint is that they didn't take steps to make similar jerseys more distinctive from one another. Case in point, our old friend Michael Barrett: http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/b/barremi01.shtml His Expos number and his two Cubs numbers look too much alike. I realize the team name comes up with a simple mouse-over, but still.
  3. Not really. This is basically a regular season start this go-around, in that the pitchers are encouraged to pitch as deep as they can and to treat it as close to a real game as they can. The next and final start is just a 2-3 inning tuneup to keep them on schedule for the regular season. Also, Jake Peavy threw 112 pitches over 7 innings yesterday. In a minor league game.
  4. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=ap-brewers-edmonds&prov=ap&type=lgns Brewers officially purchase his contract. Good for him, I guess.
  5. http://mlb.mlb.com/media/video.jsp?content_id=7203219 Hawk dejectedly mumbling "...and you can put it on the board" may be the best thing I've ever heard come from a spring broadcast.
  6. Soriano leaves the yard in the top of the 5th, Cubs lead 7-2
  7. Wells loads the bases in the bottom of the 4th, gets out of it on a 1-2 fielder's choice, a lineout to Theriot and a groundout back to the mound.
  8. Wells gives up an RBI double to Beckham in the bottom of the 3rd, 4-1 Cubs Byrd hits a solo homer in the top of the 4th, 5-1 Cubs

  10. I've never been so distressed over a guy hitting well in the spring.
  11. Assuming this guy meant every word, I'm in awe that a turd of this magnitude is actually published by what would ostensibly seem to be a legitimate journalistic outfit.
  12. He's recovering from TJS and can't quite make throws from the outfield yet.
  13. Cubs lineup: SS Theriot CF Byrd 1B Lee 3B Ramirez DH Nady LF Soriano 2B Baker C Hill RF Adduci Zambrano on the mound for the Cubs, Jonathan Sanchez for the Giants. MLB.com will have an audio feed for the game.
  14. Um. I knew that. :ninja: I would imagine the thinking is that Nady's elbow potentially won't quite let him play the field by Opening Day and he might need the first week or two to let it finish healing.
  15. Did we jettison Nady already?
  16. Considering he's giving up HRs to guys wearing no. 83, nobody.
