    I don't know how well any of Ron's noted quirks - clicking his heels, his hairpiece mishaps, any of his "catchphrases" ("OH GOSH!"; "gee whiz..."; "YESSSSSS") - lend themselves to a jersey patch and unlike Ron, Harry and Jack were both icons almost solely as broadcasters. In that vein, they could do something with a microphone to symbolize Ron's broadcast work, but I wonder if that might underrepresent his playing career in the process. All that said, I would bet on a generic black patch with a #10. Maybe over the heart instead of the sleeve.

    Santo's next chance to get jobbed by the committee will be next year. The veteran's committee now votes on a three-year cycle: this year is 1973-onward, next year will be 1947-1972 and 2012 will be pre-integration, 1871-1946. Voting, for the record, is done up to the end of December and the results announced in early January.

    The optimistic projection is "the beginning of December", but if I'm not mistaken, he's just now slowly easing into practice. One would think it's still going to be a few weeks until he's up to game snuff.

    He did, or at least claimed to, under the pretense of spending more time with his family, who lives in Tampa. He lives two blocks away from the Yankees facility down there and the Yankees make several road trips down there per season.

    I think that's an unfounded conclusion. Is there a pitching coach out there whom A. you feel is available at the moment and B. you would actually spend millions on, or whatever amount would qualify the signing as not being in "the discount bin" to you? I would think, or at least hope, that they're looking to hire from within because there's little gain to be had in holding a massive search/hiring process for the position of pitching coach.
