  1. He'll officially miss the start of the season. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=ap-redscueto
  2. I assume you mean that between the other players the Phillies have who can play 2B and 3B, Castillo should see plenty of time at second. Because I would think that at this point in his career, Castillo at third base would be less than fruitful, if there ever was a time in his career where it would have been a good idea at all.
  3. I love this photo. http://cache.daylife.com/imageserve/02KDf1O5nQ7AQ/610x.jpg
  4. I guess Robert Coello isn't going to be the guy in the 9th inning this year.
  5. =D> He's gonna knock down walls if/when the Bulls ever win a title. "WE GONNA DO IT BIG! ALL DAY! ALL NIGHT!"
  6. It's easy to be funny when you're winning. :-))

  8. How you like that, Heatles? How you like that? Take that with you: one loss for each of your Big Three to suck on.
  9. Ballgame. Cubs win 9-4. Fukudome: 2-3, R Castro: 1-3, R Byrd: 2-2, BB, 3 R Ramirez: 1-1, RBI, BB, R Soriano: 1-3, 2 RBI Cashner: 2 IP, ER, 3 H, 2 BB, K Wells (W, 1-0): 3 IP, R, 3 H, BB, 3 K
  10. One would have to think that, but I think the point is a valid one. Let's examine the teams who could even potentially afford the contract Pujols wants: Angels: Could be a factor, absolutely, though Arte Moreno isn't a fan of contracts as huge as what Pujols wants Mets: In major financial trouble at the moment, and you don't figure that's going to all go away (to the point where they could offer $275-$300 million) by November or December Phillies/White Sox/Yankees/Red Sox: All have first basemen signed to huge contracts Dodgers: Could be a factor, but similar to the Mets, their ownership situation is still in flux, which could potentially preclude them from a signing that huge; I'm including them here more because they're in a huge market and could theoretically afford it, not because they're usually players in the big-name free agent market And save for the Cubs, that's really all of the teams who could even potentially afford a contract that large, isn't it?
  11. Starters are all done for the day, by the way, so that's it for today's Castro/Colvin watch.
  12. Woody pitches a clean inning, K, F9, GO 6-3, 17 pitches (12 strikes). Heading to the top of the 6th, Cubs up 4-0 Colvin (1B): 3-3, solo HR, R, 3 RBI Castro: 1-3, triple, RBI, R Garza: 2 IP, H; took a liner off the back of his ribs on the right side, but finished the inning cleanly, took his next AB and finished the day off in the bullpen to reach his pitch count.
  13. Top 5, Cubs now up 3-0 on an RBI triple by Castro.
  14. Garza finishing off his day throwing in the bullpen, though. Guess he's okay.
  15. Garza just took a liner off somewhere. Staying in the game, though.
  16. Messmer hasn't been the full-time PA guy for a while now; I don't know if that's been the case since the shooting or not, but he hasn't held sole ownership of the job for quite some time. His duties these days are providing the only rendition of the anthem you need on an afternoon of blue skies and green ivy and doing PA for the occasional day/weekend game. As said, Paul Friedman is the one being replaced, as he "leaves to pursue another opportunity."
  17. Has Sori put on some weight or is that just a terrible camera angle?
  18. Hawks and Seabrook on the verge of agreeing to a 5-year extension, per TSN and Pierre LeBrun.
  19. Stressful. Rewarding. Crowd almost seemed into it. Usual chants of MVP raining down on Rose. Swirsk dropped an ONIONS, BABY, ONIONS on Deng's 3-pt shot. Video: http://www.nba.com/games/20110224/MIACHI/gameinfo.html?ls=gt2hp0021000859#nbaGIboxscore

  21. Probably why they signed Augie.

  24. http://www.dailyherald.com/article/20110217/sports/702179871/ Terrific article by Bruce Miles about Ron's absence at camp. :(
