  1. This is like God playing his/her/its copy of MLB 2K11 and seeing what sort of insane plays can be executed.
  2. Blue Jays scored the go-ahead run in the top of the inning and then immediately had it wiped out when the third base umpire called interference on Yunel Escobar, saying he obstructed third baseman Alberto Callaspo as he tried to make the play on the ball. Bottom 13, Angels have runners at the corners, 0 out. They had this in the 11th and couldn't score. And no sooner said than done, Vernon Wells flies into what I believe is a 7-6-3 DP. Hilarity abound. And in case that wasn't enough, the runner at first gets fooled by a third-to-first move, breaks for second, gets caught in a rundown and then Bobby Abreu is tagged out at the plate as he tries to score from third. Inning over. Dan Haren now pitching in relief in the top of the 14th, as the Angels have emptied their bullpen.
  3. http://mlb.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=13639081 Love it, love everything about it.
  4. Woo doggy. Nothing gets me closer to cardiac arrest than a Marmol save. Nice win.
  5. The park gun had him sitting around 94 and hitting 96, for what it's worth. Thoughts from section 10, row 2, seat 5 today (yes, it was a great seat): - Park continued to be kinda empty. Announced attendance was about 27,000 but there's no way it was that high - Colvin looked serviceable at first base. Not great, but serviceable. He made all the routine plays, but he couldn't quite hold on to a few picks in the dirt that I think Pena probably would have made - Castro continues to impress. Would have had a third hit but for the bullet he hit right at the third baseman in the first inning, and made some game-saving plays in the field, including the barehand play in the 9th. - Cashner looked terrific before he left with the shoulder problem. Working quickly, threw strikes, working comfortably in the 90s all day, very encouraging before the injury. - The bleacher fans have started standing and flapping their arms during Byrd ABs - The loaded footlong hot dog/brat is worth every penny
  6. It was a cold, damp, overcast day game in April against the Diamondbacks, and yes, let's be honest, they are coming off an 87-loss season and they did lose 2 of 3 to Pittsburgh over the weekend. If they're still drawing poorly in May and June with school out and the sun out and the days warmer than 45 degrees and the Cardinals and Brewers and Yankees in town, then it'll be news.
  7. Well there goes my optimism for tomorrow. :-|
  8. That's just the app. GDA still costs another $20.
  9. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? THEY LOSE THE LEAD ON THAT DINK HIT?!?!?!
  10. It is missing something without an AWRIIIIIIIGHT in the background, isn't it?
  11. OK I was wrong, watch this space instead. http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r71/bcvm22/highlights/422011.png We're back!
  12. Radio Highlights http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r71/bcvm22/sigzeon/cubsterbanner2011.png The calls of the 2011 season as brought to you by Pat Hughes ("This ball's got a chaaaance..."), Keith Moreland ("I can butcher the English language with the best of them"), Judd Sirott (...) and the occasional Dave Otto ("You gotta be some kinda strong...") on WGN Radio 720 AM. Continually updated as the season rolls on. All MP3s are direct from MLB.com's Gameday Audio online radio feed (an excellent value if you don't already have it; home and road team radio feeds for every game, pre-, regular and postseason for only $20 flat), recorded and mixed with Audacity and tagged with iTunes. Please preemptively forgive any rough edits you might come across; I know there are a few scattered across these MP3s. All highlights are tagged with album art, the date, the score and a brief summary matching those found here (viewable in an iTunes playlist by selecting View > View Options and checking the "Comment" checkbox or by right-clicking the track, selecting Get Info and viewing the Info tab, or in Windows Media Player by right-clicking the track, selecting Properties and viewing the Content tab). April 2, 2011 - Cubs 5, Pirates 3 Trailing all game, the Cubs roar back and score five runs in the 8th inning, capped by a go-ahead 2-run double by Blake DeWitt and followed by Carlos Marmol striking out the side for the save as the Cubs notch their first win of 2011. April 18, 2011 - Cubs 1, Padres 0 On a frigid night in Chicago, Tyler Colvin treats the Wrigley faithful to a walkoff win against the Padres, lacing a pinch-hit, game-winning double into the right field corner to score Geovany Soto from first base. April 20, 2011 - Cubs 2, Padres 1 Two innings after Carlos Marmol blows the save, Reed Johnson shocks all of Wrigley, including Pat Hughes, as he homers to left to end the first game of a doubleheader against the Padres in the most dramatic of fashions. April 23, 2011 - Cubs 10, Dodgers 8 Out to a lead early, the Cubs end up down late, but Starlin Castro and Darwin Barney tie the game and Jeff Baker smacks the go-ahead two-run double, followed by a Carlos Marmol save as the Cubs come from behind to defeat the Dodgers at Wrigley. May 7, 2011 - Cubs 3, Reds 2 Despite a rare Wrigley Field over-the-wall ground rule double, the Cubs give the home fans something to toast, scoring two runs off of Francisco Cordero in the 9th inning on a leadoff home run by Carlos Pena and a game-winning single by Kosuke Fukudome. 14. Everyone ready for the season? Are you ready to dominate? Be dominated? Ready to be on the winning end of a blowout? The losing end? Are you ready for the adrenaline of trailing all game only to come back and win late? The despair of leading all game only to lose it in the 9th? Are you ready to lose games we should have won? Win games we should have lost? Are you ready for the singles, the doubles, the triples, the homers? The stolen bases, the forceouts, the pickoffs, the putouts? The strikeouts, the walks, the balks, the hits? The exhilaration, the disappointment, the screaming, the silence? Are you ready?
  15. How's Opening Day at Frontier Field looking, friend?

  18. Save it for when King is on the call.
  19. Get excited, Dick Stockton!
  20. Rose nearly decapitated by the backboard.
  21. Two by Rose, one by Brewer, one by Noah and a good two or three by Asik (if you count dunks once the game was in hand), at least.
  22. That was just plain fun. Omer Asik filling up his personal garbage-time highlight reel. Inactive tonight, for whatever reason.
  23. Asik throwing down. Love it.
  24. "That's your point guard right there."
