  1. http://espn.go.com/blog/ChicagoCubs/post/_/id/2975/sutcliffe-plesac-out-of-mix-for-cubs-booth?campaign=rss&source=CHICAGOHeadlines I'm sad to not see Glanville on that supposed shortlist, dismayed but not surprised to see Sirott and curious about Sarge. Anyone know how tolerable he is on the Philly broadcasts?
  2. To clarify the discrepancy, here's the breakdown:
  3. 6 years, $96 million. Good lord. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=ap-rangers-beltre
  4. That was fun.
  5. Scal-a-bri-ne *clap clap clapclapclap*
  6. Some league-wide thing tonight, every team is wearing them. "NBA Fit" or something like that. http://www.nba.com/nbafit/
  7. Noah has joined Funk and Wennington on the TV broadcast, and it's everything you'd expect it to be.
  8. That solves that: he's just going to do the 7th inning stretch a few times.
  9. Not Costas, but
  10. Just in case you haven't been brought near tears enough... http://www.dailyherald.com/article/20101224/sports/712259923
  11. Retrosheet says: http://www.retrosheet.org/boxesetc/2004/07312004.htm So the Cubs gave Harris, Gonzo and Francis Beltran to the Expos and Justin Jones to the Twins; the Expos kicked in Cabrera and the Twins kicked in Mientkiewicz, both to Boston.

  13. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=rotowire-randonebbangersntere Good or bad for the Cubs? With the payroll crunch, would they be more willing to offer one year with no option, or less?
  14. Glanville would be unequivocally awesome, if perhaps the polar opposite of Ron.
  15. Scalabrine. :-))
  16. One would think Texas would let him leave for the full-time Cubs job if he really wanted; I don't know the specifics of his contract or the ins and outs of college sports broadcasting.
  17. http://a.yfrog.com/img618/1492/2xiq.jpg Also, someone mentioned the photo of Bernard Berrian making us believe a man can fly: http://i141.photobucket.com/albums/r71/bcvm22/sigzeon/006825972mid3xv.jpg
  18. Moreland does Texas baseball as well.
  19. That's not funny.
  20. You gotta be some kinda strong...
  21. Judd taking over as the full time color man in addition to his role as the 5th inning (the Fifth Third Bank 5th inning, of course) play-by-play voice is a very sobering possibility. Him aside, you would think Dave Otto and Keith Moreland are next on the list of possibilities. Otto has no other obligations but is sort of terrible, and Moreland has been a good fit with Pat in the games where he's filled in for Ron, but he also has broadcast obligations to the University of Texas, and you don't know if he'd want to give those up partially or completely. I've heard some talk that Andy Masur is looking to move on from San Diego and that he could find his way back to the Cubs' radio booth as the full-time color guy and heir apparent to Pat, but between Pat's awesomeness and the five-year extention he signed today, I can't imagine that being a driving force behind such a move. Whomever they're going to install as the color commentator, though, you would think they're working on it right now with intent to finalize fairly soon; a job that has you on the road for 81 games, you would think the guy (whoever "the guy" ends up being) would need time to get his stuff in order in preparation for traveling constantly all spring, summer and fall.

  23. Goodwin, Glanville, Jose Hernandez and Trenidad Hubbard - no, really - all made at least one start in center field in 2003 behind Patterson and later Lofton. Woof. No, but he actually got starts in the nos. 3, 4 and 5 spots in the lineup. Again, woof.
  24. Padres get a PTBNL along with Bartlett, so I guess that explains some of it. http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=ap-rays-padrestrade
  25. Congratulations on your new Carlos Pena jersey! I thought it was odd that he wasn't still on the roster. Let's be honest, though, even if Gray were still with the Cubs, no. 34 would have been available for Kerry Wood.
