  1. Is it just me but do you guys have any interest in watching the 1:30pm (CST) Andy Pettitte News Conference? As far as I'm concerned I could care less. I would like the focus to be more on other players that are reporting to camp. I guess ESPN just wants the focus to be on their precious Yankees. Please. I could care less. For me, another reason to hate ESPN.
  2. If you want to watch CSN on DirectTV, you have to subscribe to the sports package. Okay Vance...but I thought I already did. I'll call DirectTV right now and see what's up. Thanks Vance.
  3. Gotta love the iPhone It seems like a lot of the position players arrived early, so they probably already checked in, had their physicals and are ready to play. Ramirez most likely just got here and is doing that. I could be wrong but the following starters are reported to have been in camp at least yesterday C: Soto 1B: Lee 2B: DeRosa SS: Theriot LF: Soriano CF: Pie RF: Fukudome --You're watching all this on the Iphone? Or are you actually there in Mesa?
  4. Man, what a disappointment. I feared this might happen. I had 18 hours of VHS tapes on hand to record CSN's Tribute to Harry Caray... then I discover that CSN is only available, to viewers in the Chicago area. When CSN was rebroadcasting Cub games from last season, I was bummed out then too, when I found out I couldn't watch these games. I have their phone number around here somewhere, I think I'll call them and complain (Direct TV gave it to me). If any of you are taping today's programs, or if you haved taped the re-broadcast of Cub games, shown on Comcast----I would be more than happy to pay you for your efforts.
  5. Bummer, still no deal. Just a bunch of worthless talk on where Soriano should hit in the line- up.
  6. Interesting. Maybe they came back in the next half hour and talked about the Cubs but I know for a fact, when I was watching it-- they didn't. For years, I have always felt like they have slighted the Cubs.
  7. Not sure if this was already posted but I do hope that Sabathia eventually tests the free agent waters. I really think we need to sign him in order to keep up with the Dbacks and the Mets. http://chicago.cubs.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20080216&content_id=2376514&vkey=spt2008news&fext=.jsp&c_id=mlb
  8. Sorry but mabe this thread belongs in Rants but I just waited a half hour, to wath Peter Gammons give a report from Spring Training. The announcer mentioned that he was in Arizona. In the background you could see Cub players doing sprints but not once, did they talk about the Cubs. Unbelieveable! What a idiotic network.
  9. There was a point in time where that division would have constant wars. When he managed the Tigers, Phil Garner was especially notorious for goading other teams into bench-clearing brawls. This game comes immediately to mind. Phil Garner and the Tigers? Didn't Garner manage the Brew Crew? I do remember the fierce rivalry that Detroit had with the White Sox...especially the game that "Outshined" mentioned. Thanks guys for your input.
  10. ---Amen Brother! And He also doesn't like people using his name in vain or in the flippant manner, that many people use His name today.
  11. Earlier I asked the question: Was it the White Sox and Brewers (when they were in the A.L.) that used to have such an intense rivalry before the switch? Did they have beanball wars? Or am I dreaming? --- Does anyone remember? I think this is right.
  12. Any more updated Cub pics? Especially of my boy Fukudome?
  13. Where is the part that makes Paul Sullivan an idiot? Or were you just speaking in general? ---Yeah you and Cubbie Chris, are right. I just don't like Sullivan's style of writing. Why does he have to be so critical of the players all the time? Because he was the guy that was picked last. He was the kid with glasses who we all wailed on in dodgeball because he was an easy target ---Yeah right. lol. What a squirelly/nerdy-looking dude.
  14. --I'm with Vance and others on this one. The Cubs could keep their rivalry going somewhat with the Brewers through Interleague play. Now that I live in Kansas, and no longer in Houston...I would much rather have the Royals in our division, so I could see the Cubs play at Kauffman (only a little over an hour from K.C.). Just curious, how close is Detroit to where the Brewers are at? Was it the White Sox and Brewers (when they were in the A.L.) that used to have such an intense rivalry before the switch? Beanball wars? Or am I dreaming?

  16. ---Yeah my thoughts exactly. Went to the store the other day and bought a package of VHS tapes to record the entire day. NC subscribing to CSN, is well worth it. They are so far and above WGN, it isn't funny.
  17. This probably should have initially been posted in this thread and not the ST thread. "...Fukudome can bat anywhere in the lineup but said he feels best in the No. 3 slot. "I've been batting third in Japan for a long time," he said. "And that's where I have my rhythm and feel comfortable. But the manager makes the lineup and wherever Lou [Piniella] puts me I'll try to do the job I'm supposed to do." It's unlikely Piniella will move Derrek Lee out of his No. 3 hole for Fukudome, though Lee said at the Cubs Convention he wouldn't be upset if he's asked to change. But Piniella has said he's tentatively pegged Fukudome for the fifth spot, where he will protect Aramis Ramirez. As the first Japanese player in Cubs history, Fukudome will be the subject of intense media scrutiny at the outset of the season. He's not only ready for it, but apparently believes in the old adage "the more the merrier." "There are a lot more media surrounding me here than compared to Japan," he said. "I don't think it should be hard to get used to, and I'd like to keep all of you around me. By the end of the season, there may be only two or three people here, but I hope it doesn't go that way." --- Paul Sullivan is an idiot. http://blogs.chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports_hardball/2008/02/fukudome-in-the.html
  18. Don't worry, He knows you like baseball.
  19. He sure would look good in Cubbie blue! Maybe we could get one of the current Cub players to contact him, and tell him there's no place to play like Wrigley Field!
  20. Don't worry Bob, I'm not the least bit offended. And I can understand how people might get upset over the constant commotion that goes along with a japanese player coming to America. In many ways, the Cubs had to deal with this, when Sosa was in his prime...so maybe the more I think about it, it's not such a big deal after all-- the Cubs will be able to deal with it. I don't know. I guess the reason I'm somewhat intrigued with this whole situation is because Fukudome is the first japanese player to play for the Cubs...I guess I'm just curious as to how this whole thing will play out.
  21. I disagree. Just because it might prove to be the longest thread ever (and for whatever reason, posters are trying to do that), does not necessarily translate this thread into being "the best ever". If you ask me, there's too much fluff in this thread for it to be considered to be one of the best. It's the "fluff" and not the actual on-topic discussion that makes this one of the best. Hmm. Interesting. I guess everybody's different. How do other posters/members feel about this?
  22. Now that Spring Training has finally arrived (yeah!), I'm really looking forward to the arrival of Kosuke Fukudome, which is sceduled to arrive tomorrow. I wonder if Shinjo is already in camp or did he get special permission to arrive when Kosuke reported to camp? It will be interesting to see how many of the Japanese media will be there on that first day that Fukudome reports. It will be interesting to see what Kosuke's new teammates think about all of the hoopla that revolves around Kosuke Fukudome's arrival in camp. Does anyone have any thoughts on the matter?
