  1. those sites are the kind of defeatist hate sites that are a total waste of time and don't contribute at all to getting the cubs to the world series. 4000 hits? we all know that you can easily put any number you want on those counters.
  2. They changed that story now to say that it's NOT the Pads...
  3. Doesn't Pie project to be similar to Alfonso Soriano with less power (for now) but with better defense?
  4. So on the one hand the RedSox are trying to get rid of Manny who apparently has an attitude problem, and they are going to replace him with Drew who according to former teammates also has an attitude problem. Go figure. As an added bonus for the Redsox, JD Drew will never outproduce Manny. The story just gets better and better.
  5. maddux primary value now is as an innings eater. someone who will consistently start 30 games. no more than a #4. i would only be willing to sign him to a one-year contract w/ a 1 year option that automatically vests based on an ERA below 4.00
  6. the problem is in THIS market, $8M will only get you an Adam Eaton (read: not much).
  7. if that's what it costs, forget the 2nd tier market! just sign one of the top tier then open up a slot for one of the kids. the other possibility would be to ask maddux back at a "hometown" discount.
  8. he heads mine as well. he's not a type A or B. maybe he's shooting for a starting job for a small market team, but I can't believe he's not been snatched up by a competetive team to back up RF, LF, 1B, 3B and emergency catcher. the answer to him not being snatched up as a back up is in your post already: he's looking for a starting job. he made his disappointment clear to the pirates last year that he wanted to start.
  9. I've always defended hendry up until now on OBP. Pointing to Derrek Lee, Barret, Ramirez, Murton, all having above average OBP. Thinking Dusty's nagging about speed rubbed off on Jim too much. But I don't think there's anything Jim can say to back off of that last statement. He has no clue that OBP is not directly connected to AVG and that a high OBP is much more important than a high AVG. Actually OBP is directly connected to AVG cos the players batting average makes up around 80% of his times on base.
  10. Sign him to a $1M base salary laden with performance bonuses.
  11. Dempster will be traded mid-season. Howry will become the closer. Wood will have the job by years end.
  12. I'm undecided whether Soriano should be risking an injury by playing winter ball, but after remembering some of the more bizarre injuries that happened last year (what with knives and stairs and motorcycles) i guess its ok. i mean after all just getting up out of bed is already a risk for some people.
  13. any Soriono predictions for 2007? my prediction is that it will be june before you figure out how to spell his name Bwahahahahahahaha. absolutely hilarious!
  14. It's a safe bet that most IF can make the transition to OF. Theriot is young and athletic enough to do the switch. Soriano did the same thing last year with the nationals. Heck, Dusty put Todd Walker out in LF
  15. I think the few times that Lou has talked about Murton, he's been positive about his capabilities, and we know how much Hendry likes him. It's clear to me that Murton will get a clear shot to start the year in LF and i'm certain that he'll produce well enough to keep the job.
  16. I think you are overpaying for Giles and not paying nearly enough for Tejada. Also, of course our payroll would probably not be able to handle such moves. Haven't you heard? The Cubs are the New Yankees on the Block!
  17. Are you a hard worker too with a positive make-up that will be an inspiration to this team? Just say yes and we'll sign you to 6/$40M
  18. Another perspective is that forgetting about 2007 and reloading for 2008 is increasingly looking like it would have been the smart thing to do. We could have sat on the sidelines watching the desperate win-now teams saddle themselves with these crippling albatross contracts. Yes we could have looked forward to next off-season's free agent class but with the WS drought threatening to reach the century mark, it's quite obvious that the Cubs are the most desperate of the desperate WIN NOW teams.
  19. This off-season is presenting quite a strong case that it was MacPhail all along who was hampering Hendry's movement as the GM. From the revelation of Andy's role in Aram's opt-out clause to the aggressiveness with which Jim has pursued targets this year w/o Andy's shadow hanging over him.
  20. I am absolutely glad that we exchanged a hard-working, good-natured, inspirational teammate who hits nothing but singles and steals bases, for a player who is just as hard-working, good-natured, inspirational teammate but instead hits tons of extra-base hits and steals bases.
  21. hahaha. just adds further proof that that's what the market values are for this off-season. put that 5/55 with Juan Pierre's 5/45 and now Soriano's deal is starting to look better and better especially since the Cubs managed to snag the best player available.
  22. who really cares about the long term effects of Soriano's contract?? the only long term effect i care about now is the 98 years without a championship! I say spend the money and bring the top players in for a change.
  23. I wish everyone would stop crying about how Soriano's or DeRosa's are such bad deals. Face the reality! This is what this years market is. The past couple years we've lamented how bad other big deals were and even commended Hendry on his safe and below market signings. The fact is: the money is there and Hendry is going to spend it. TV made these astronomical contracts possible and I for one am not gonna whine about it. The Cubs just acquired the 2 best FA this year (one below market and one above market) and i'm gonna be happy about that. Next I'm gonna wait for Hendry to spend more dollars on a good FA SP and another league average SP to round out the rotation. Go Cubs! Win it all in the next 3 years (that is what these signings are all about, not the year 2014)
  24. OPS isn't a "random" stat. And it only takes about 15 seconds to look it up at any number of sites. By not using OPS you openly admit to not using the stat that best determines offensive production in a cursory manner. So, how do you judge a good player? Batting average and RBI's. :D What?? Everybody knows that the only way to judge a good player is by eyeballing him yourself like any good scout would do!
  25. If were gonna talk about wouldashouldacouldas then we would be talking about the Cubs repeating as world champs right now (our starting pitching then would've eaten up the yanks just like the Fish's did).
