  1. No doubt the Cubbies still have a shot, but if they continue to play.500 ball they're not going to be in the WC hunt for much longer.
  2. Pat Hughes has a razor sharp wit. Ronnie is absolutely nuts, but I love him anyway.
  3. Wake up Dusty! Neifi's numbers on the season are actually BELOW his career averages now, and that's taking into account his absolutely scorching april. That's how BAD Neifi has been in the last 3 months. Get over it cos the honeymoon's over.

    Murton

These two other guys I know also set aside their power in order to get on base: Wade Boggs and Ichiro Suzuki.
  5. True -- getting trotted out game after game without making adjustments is likely another 'cause for frustration (applicable to both Corey and Hawkins). Management made some poor decisions in both cases. Then why doesn't Neifi ever get booed? Because Neifi is a SPARKPLUG!!
  6. I don't think Sammy has ever been thought of as "classless".

    Macias

People don't hate Macias because he is a bad player. People hate the fact that he is playing ahead of players who are loads better than him.
  8. That series between the Cubs and the Giants was possibly the worst managed bunch of games I have ever seen.
  9. These issues may be somewhat related only in that people all over the world tend to not give it their all in most things they do. However, none of us (or few of us I should say) are making a living by providing our thoughts on message boards. In fact, many of us are using laptops and typing while having an adult beverage or reclining after a hard day's work. I don't see a strong comparison b/w that and a major league player running out each ball he/she hits. And frankly, I'm not certain how it has become an accepted practice. Managers are responsible for their team's production, correct? Their job largely depends on their team winning. Could this be about managers losing authority with their team because the ever increasing salaries of today's players? Nope. For major leaguers it is their JOB to play hard. That's what they are paid to do. Now if you would be nonchalant with your reports at work and not pay attention to spelling and grammar in the office, then that would be a more apt analogy.
  10. It is very very difficult for a team to win when they have to battle not only the opposing team but their own manager too. We should all be ecstatic that this team has won as many games as they have.
  11. Pat and Ron have joined the lament on how "horrible" it is that the Cubs veterans are not hustling out of the box on a lot of plays.
  12. The disease has gone airborne! Priceless comment. Gold.
  13. After 112 pitches, it's nice to see Dusty run Zambrano out there again. Good thing Baker has that 140 pitch count limit for Z or else he might end up abusing his arm.

    Absolutely Hilarious!!!
  15. Hollandsworth = Rally Killer
  16. Dusty needs to keep Macias sharp just in case we make it to the playoffs. :P
  17. Good thing players like Pujols didn't come up under Dusty. He might still be a platoon player right now.

  19. I believe that it is human nature for most people to try to get away with as much as they are allowed to get away with. In other words, if there is no Coach_C calling you out like that then the tendency is to slack. Of course there are exceptions to the rule. Case in point is Michael Jordan. How many times have we seen or heard about him screaming at slacking teammates? People who are good become superstars. People who make others better become champions.
  20. Was I just imagining it or hasn't Dusty been booed in an actual game already?
  21. I saw it mentioned somewhere that Hairston looked a bit gimpy right before he came out, but most likely Dusty just wanted to keep Macias sharp. :P
  22. Yes, but a "decent price" according to Chuck Lamar is not the same as what other GM's would consider to be a "decent price".
  23. It's just one of those freak plays. There's always going to be balls going right by pitchers. Now on the college level, I really hate seeing those alumium bats making those real loud ping sounds. It really makes me squirm, becuase I have seen alot of pitchers getting drilled by those balls coming from alumium bats. I doubt if you will be able to remove aluminum bats anytime soon. The aluminum bat lobbyists are as powerful as the NRA when it comes to the collegiate ranks. :)
  24. Dusty is loyal to a fault... until he turns on you (see Sosa, Samuel).
  25. So true. Sadly being "Red Sox" fans hasn't moved the Cubs team any closer to being as good as the Red Sox team.
