  1. Let's put it this way - from all accounts, Jeromy Burnitz would be better. I'm all for it. Bench Hairston. I sure like the idea, but isn't that kind of like talking about who to call up when Macias gets DFA'd? I guess my question is: can we really expect Dusty to send that lineup out there?
  2. I'm surprised, but I'm not. I've always like Raffy, partly because of his success and partly because he came off as a nice likable guy - he seemed to deserve it. If this report is true, though, maybe he doesn't . . .
  3. Heh, I remember a while ago (this year) someone bumped the old "Choi for Lee" thread. People absolutely bugged out for a brief moment, thinking we did the trade again :P BTW, how can I nominate Rocket Sauce for mod?
  4. I'm heading pretty soon too with the same hopes. I think we're both gonna be disappointed, Roast . . .
  5. I'll have to warn you not to turn the channel to TBS. Their playing great ever since they benched has beens like Brian Jordan and Raul Mondesi for the likes of Kelly Johnson, Ryan Langerhans and Jeff Francoeur. :)
  6. Ha! Thanks - that's a funny little fact.
  7. Let the rampant specualtion begin again for the Cubs' skipper job! Joe Torre, Joe Girardi, Jim Leyland, Larry Bowa, Larry Brown, Phil Jackson, Zim, etc . . . :)
  8. Maybe he is trying to get fired. Like George Costanza, he's trying to do everything absolutely wrong, yet his higher-ups are even more incompetent than he is. :)
  9. I'd still like to hear something :) BTW, can anyone tell me if the BBTN at 12:30 ET is a repeat? Or is it an abbreviated trade deadline special? I know the big show they do is on later, but I work this afternoon . . .
  10. I'll never forget how Hendry said that Corey was a true 5 tool player and how many teams had inquired about trading for him while he was in the minors, but alas, he was untouchable. Another swing and miss by the Cubs regarding a star position player in the minors. Hopefully Pie will pan out, I would like to see at least 1 stud position player come through the system and contribute in the next five years. Corey and Kid DL, two sure fire studs that it seems have lost their trade value. Let's hope not. That seems a little harsh on the Cubs Front Office. Did you really think at the time, that they should have traded Corey before he even hit the majors? If you can't say yes to that, then you can't blame the Cubs for not doing it either. What about the 2003? He was having a great year, even getting mentioned for the All-Star Game. Don't get me wrong. As of right now, I want him gone. Whether or not he ever puts it together and becomes the star he could have been, I will always admit to loving him in '03 and hating him in '05 - regardless of how it turns out, I can't blame the Cubs. They kept him as long as they should have, and if they get minimum value for him, then so be it. Just Bad Luck. I don't think it's harsh because Corey is the biggest example of the problem. Hendry hung his hat on him for quite a while. I'm just puzzled how the Cubs have failed to have one good starting position player come to the big club in recent memory. When not one of your starting 8 didn't come through your system, I would say it's a little more than bad luck. My point is: at what point did the Cubs screw up with Corey? Despite a tough situation we're in now, I don't think they ever did. It wasn't just Hendry who felt Patterson would be a huge 5-tool guy, like the earlier post sai, all of the other GMs did too. Corey has shown just enough of his potential and promise during the last four years to warrant keeping him, until (arguably) now.
  11. You also might say we should have lost 6 (or whatever) of those wins :). I agree 12-6 isn't as optimistic knowing how hard it has been to score the last week. Late comebacks are great, but to sustain that kind of success you need a solid bullpen and a consistant lineup, both of which are weakness on the team right now. *Fingers crossed for the next seven hours!*
  12. Why don't we just trade Dusty for Tracy and call it good? Nevermind that: how about Dusty for Sgt. Pornstache, straight up? I'd do Dusty for Edwin Jackson. In 1979, Oakland traded manager Chuck Tanner to the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for Manny Sanguillen and 100K. So there is a precedent. Oh, and Tanner guided the Bucs to a World Series championship later that year. There's even more precedent than that. I believe Randy Winn was traded for Lou Piniella, and the NFL Buc's got a lot of money and draft picks just to interview Jon Gruden.
  13. Does this have any bearing on Manny's immediate future?
  14. True or not, let's decide on that as NSBB's official stance on Andy Sisco. We'll all feel a whole lot better.

  16. GREAT job Djaxx, I'm really looking forward to those answers. Good questions, btw.
  17. [Cubs optimism] That was my thinking, too. Boston is at the point of no return to trade Manny. Come noon tomorrow if he's still with Boston, I think there will be a mad rush by Epstein to unload him. If Jim is as smart as he seems, I think we see him at the front of that line.[/Cubs optimism]
  18. Meh... While I'd like to see an upgrade in LF and in the bullpen, I could live with our current team +Nomar and Williamson, assuming Murton continues to get a good portion of the starts in LF. Still, I'm holding out hope that we'll get a new LF in the next 16.5 hours or so... Its 99.9% sure, according to Jayson Stark, that Manny and the Mets ain't happening. Jim, if ever we needed a miracle from you, we need it now! I'm holding out hope for Manny, Huff or Dunn. Soriano would be OK too I guess. I just hope we get someone in LF. Same here. I would LOVE to get Manny in LF especially. Roast - like you I'll be at work most of the day (from 1-8). I'm such a trade deadline geek that I've set my TiVo to record both of the BBTNs while I'm gone. When I get home around 8:30 at night, I'll pretending it's around noon, and have a seat. I really will, that may be the saddest part.
  19. They couldn't let you in there, you'd see the big board. Gentlemen, there's no fighting in the war room.
  20. Hmm...I love our odds if this is true I know what you mean. This is fairly similar to us nabbing Nomar last year. The only question is, what Red Sock becomes a Cub next year? The only difference is that we were front-runners for Nomar. He was rumored to be going to us for about a month before we actually got him. I don't know if I really agree with that. If we were "front-runners" for him, it would have been 95% specualtion and rumoring. One thing that is definitely similar though, is that the Cubs are one of 3-5 teams reportedly inquiring. I think JH definitely has a way of working his way into deals by recognizing other teams' desperation and weakness.

  22. Man, maybe Hoops has a connection or something that he could get that to Hendry. I'd do that in a minute. Agreed. That looks real nice for everyone. Boston is giving up the most, no doubt, but what they're getting sets them up pretty well for the rest of the year.
  23. Since I'm incredibly naive and hopelessly optimistic, I'll get pretty excited for the Cubs if the Manny/Mets deal breaks down. But only because I'm incredibly naive and hopelessly optimistic :) .
  24. Soriano's name has been all over ESPN radio and the local papers. But did you actually hear ESPN radio mention Wood and Mitre by name? If so, fine, but if not, why would you put their names in the title? For shock value? I will say this: I was listening to ESPN radio AM 100 local updates at 8:20 AM and 8:40 AM CDT - there was zero mention of Wood's name or Mitre's name. Bruce Levine did speculate that Corey Patterson could be part of the deal, and he did say that Texas sources had mentioned Rich Hill's name. What's your take on it, Hoops? Do you see any possibility? I think Soriano would be great for the right price. Granted, he's not exactly what this team needs, but if Hendry can't get the Perfect solution for the cubs, should he do nothing? It's an upgrade.
  25. That was a pretty good use of exaggeration, ZZ:wink:. But ultimately, it's just saying that no one's perfect and no one's pure evil. Fact is, many Cub fans do second guess Dusty's move and often see some problems, whether he's perfect or not should have no bearing on critiquing him.
