  1. I know what you mean, but I hate people who don't vote because they have ignored the issues and have made no attempt to become educated.
  2. I'm going to a college in a different district than the one I'm registered in. I know I could apply to change it - I even did about half of the paperweork to do so - but the election idiocy pretty much killed my motivation. I don't care much for either congressional candidate, and I don't think we're in great hands regarding the senate race, either. The initiatives, though interesting, haven't convinced me one way or the other. Frankly, I'm not "qualified," but not in the sense of being registered. I'm just indifferent to the competing opinions.
  3. Aramis Ramirez is a role player? Geoff Blum is a role player.
  4. If things break bad with Bochy in San Fran, this will be another GREAT JOB by Hendry . . . Little early for revisionist history, even for a cub fan :) If it is said before hand it cannot be revisionist history. Bochy has demonstrated that he is a very good manager and his philosophy is much more in line with mine. Time will tell. Well, that's my point. You're already bringing up a hypothetical situation, and based off of that (which you invented), you're questioning Hendry's decision. Questioning why Hendry (seemingly) did not go harder after Bochy who apparently was able-to-be-had is a very valid concern - it certainly got my attention. But my point is, the "missed opportunity" should be considered regarless of how Lou does.

  6. Is it just me, or does that statement read illogically? Anyways, who's gonna be the next Dick Pole now?
  7. Correct me if I'm worng, but didn't Ryno go to the Cubs asking to be considered before Baker was hired, and the management wouldn't even interview him. I'll bet this was just a polite, appeasement interview.
  8. A-rod. I'm pretty sure it's all been speculation at this point (particularly, the inclusion of Hill), but it does make some sense, so it's worth considering.
  9. lol, can we get a question mark up there?
  10. One percent? That's kinda silly unless Carroll has amazingly good sources. We're not even into the offseason.
  11. You can do that? We have a right to misspell, dammit!!
  12. It's actually pretty simple: look at Family Guy's typical audience versus playoff baseball's typical audience. Being offended is all about the content's appropriateness compared to the viewers' expectations. A slightly off-color comment during baseball is magnified by the belief that its viewers did not expect it or seek it out.
  13. The part about not understanding him or wanting to sit next to him, is putting a stick in the spokes of any attempt to say he was misunderstood.
  14. Perfect. Oh wait, can black dudes handle the cold of october?
  15. Thom Brennaman better watch his pockets. "Psycho" has been replaced by a dude named Jose Mota. ;)
  16. In my opinion, matsuzaka would be a good gamble to take - esp. for the cubs who could use a 1 or 2 spot starter. He'll be very expensive though
  17. Why? Geoff Blum is a valuable Left-handed hitter off the bench. He can pretty much play anywhere on the field. He has some power in his bat, and he puts the bat on the ball. I love his versatility. hehe, no offense to your idea, but every phrase of your post is a "bad player" cliche. :)
  18. If signing Piniella means that ARod will come to Chicago, then I support his hiring. Otherwise, I'd rather have Girardi. I wonder what Aramis thinks of Sweet Lou? Bruce - can you speak a bit more to this quote? A lot of us NSBB have just kind of assumed it to be true since they were together in Seattle. Is there any semi-concrete reason to believe they had a strong relationship, even one that would make Alex want to rejoin him? Also, do you believe this possibility is playing into Hendry's desire for Piniella?
  19. Those parachutes aren't meant to help you survive flying into a stationary object. But if they encountered trouble earlier on -- as they reportedly did -- there would seemingly have been a time that parachutes might have helped.
  20. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the only playoff managers remotely mentioned as a possibility have been Bruce Bochy Joe Torre. In other words, I wouldn't expect much of a wait (at least not for the reason of teams being eliminated). I don't see him interested in Randolph, Leyland, LaRussa (shudder), or Macha. edit: I guess you said "was or still is in the playoffs." So I guess I'm actually agreeing with you, Yeti :)
  21. Being 8 years old and a huge Huskers fan at the time, Berringer's death is the first time I can remember caring about something on the news. He had spoken to my school just 3 days before the crash, and had autographed a football for me. Man, that still brings a tear to my eye. Anyways, sorry for the thread-hijack, I just think it's interesting to note the retrospection (and introspection) that shocking tragedies like these seem to bring. :(
  22. Who said anything about Suicide? Honestly, it was your comments that put it in my mind. "I don't know if any of this is serious, but Mike and Mad Dog need to own up if it is. Seriously, there is a certain level of criticism that athletes need to learn to take, especially in a big market. But there is also a line that should not be crossed. Some might think it's "entertainment" to drag a guy through the mud on the public airwaves. I do not." Own up to what, if not some sort level of culpability? Also, USSoccer said "Most of the NY media need a wake up call. It's unfortunate that it had to happen like this..." Same deal. I didn't say that oohh . . . sloppy quoting on my part - I meant to address Derwood who was quoted within your post. Sorry :)
  23. I don't blame you, and I apologize if it sounded like I did. It's a pretty fair first thought, and in fact, it may be proven to be true . . . just not yet.

  25. Can we stop alluding to suicide, please? It's being reported as an accident, so it should be regarded as such. It doesn't look good to complain about radio analysts dragging someone's name through the mud, by saying (before the dust has settled) that they pushed someone to kill themselves
