In the unlikely event his case went all the way to an arb hearing, it would make for a very interesting outcome. As I understand it, the arbiter cannot compare the player in question to free agents and their salaries until the final year of arb eligibility. I doubt there are many second year arb eligibles who are good comparisons to Cabrera.

I wouldn't be surprised if MacPhail is anxious to get Tejada out of the organization quickly, before the Mitchell report comes out. -
Bingo How does this NOT qualify as a rumor? Bruce miles speculated that Roberts could be available. A rumor is defined as "a story or statement in general circulation without confirmation or certainty as to facts." That's exactly what this is. A statement made without certainty, as can be seen by the "MAY be available" part of his statement. This is a rumor - people are just getting picky. Levine, not Miles.

seems pretty fair for all sides to me So, as Orioles GM, you're trading Tejada and Roberts for LaRoche, Cedeno, Patterson, and Marshall? You would quite literally be tarred and feathered and justifiably so. -

which would be terrible. what is with hendry's obsession with a left-handed bat anyway? geez, he's hopeless. What would be terrible about adding Crawford to our lineup? He's young, relatively cheap, plays solid defense, and is a solid offensive player. Oh, and he's left handed, of course. ;) If we traded for him, he wouldn't be cheap for long.

Doesn't mean they can't look at AFFORDABLE pitchers. That's the key. If the pitchers are affordable, it's very likely they won't be any better than what we already have.

I don't suppose Hendry is bright enough to go for Randy Winn instead of Dave Roberts. I don't know how bad Roberts' contract is but if it means we get rid of Marquis, I'm all for it. 1 more year, 7.5M. Marquis has 08:$6.375M, 09:$9.875M Not true. Roberts has two years remaining at $6.5 per.

You'd think it would be a team that plays in a pitcher's park. Nationals would fit. Rangers not so much. Tigers, Mariners, Padres, Mets.

Dave Roberts is also old enough to be Juan Pierre's father. He makes less than Marquis, which means a trade benefits the Cubs financially. And he's brittle enough that there's no way he completely overshadows Pie's potential playing time. He'll play at 36 and 37 the next two years, and be a 4th OF who gets on 34% of the time. The big problem is he can't hit lefties, but he can hold his own against some righties playing for Murton. Personally, I don't like it. The Marquis offset is really the only positive, and it's slight. Wait until Punch Drunk throws in some cash "to be fair".

If the Cubs are going to bring in Dave Roberts, they might as well go ahead and trade Pie in some sort of big deal.
