  1. I imagine that a hometown discount deal for Dempster would be something similar to Kosuke's deal.
  2. Number one on this list: Having a good organization that puts a team into the postseason frequently. If you only get in once every ten years or so, your chances of winning it all decrease significantly. Let's hope that we're starting to see the early signs of the Cubs no longer being MLB's worst organization.
  3. Merely using the phrase "pimp a homer" warrants him getting the Ben Christensen treatment.
  4. Felix Pie Micah Hoffpauir Koyie Hill Angel Guzman Michael Wuertz Either Kevin Hart or Jose Ascanio I don't know the status of Jon Lieber's health. I don't know whether the Cubs would consider him to be a "September call-up".
  5. Both offensively and defensively.
  6. LOL! Rosenthal just changed his story.
  7. The very best part of today's game? The Cardinals paid Jim Edmonds a little over $12,000 today to hit two home runs against them.
  8. DH-quality hitter, please. Thanks.
  9. I think you have to use the DFA method and expose him to waivers in order to get him to the minors. Eyre will be traded, probably for a PTBNL in the next 10 days. If not, somebody will claim him in the waiver process. Zero chance anyone claims Scott Eyre off waivers. 100% chance someone does. Shall I say it again for emphasis? No one is going to take on a $1+ million commitment for two months of a mediocre (at best) relief pitcher who has a very real chance of being horrible.

  11. If Eyre wanted to, could he accept the assignment and go to Iowa until September 1st? Or would the MLBPA prevent him from doing that?
  12. I imagine that any minor league deal would come with a guarantee that he'd be added to the major league roster in September. Why add a potential troublemaker to the roster down the stretch?
  13. Wade is not a good GM, but this is all about the owner McLane not wanting to admit to the fans that they've given up. There not even remotely in the race for the playoffs though ha....There not in the division race or wild card? Well, that's obvious - especially to Astros fans. Drayton McLane is a pretty terrible owner. He forced Hunsicker out and has reduced the once-proud Astros farm system to rubble. If they weren't in the NL Central, I would almost say it's a shame. Almost.

  15. I've been a proponent of adding Lopez in the past when we were seriously talent-poor, but isn't he supposedly a bad guy? I don't know that I'd want to add a malcontent to what appears to be a very professional and cohesive group.
  16. Are you looking for something more specific than "he's not good at baseball"?
  17. he signed his deal in March 06 before the new CBA so he should still have that right Whether he does or not may have something to do with how much major league service time he had either at the time he signed the contract, the time the new CBA went into effect, or the time of the trade. Like I said, I'm confused.
  18. I don't remember, is DeJesus a plus defender? I wonder what Moore wants in return for him. That contract is nice for his production. I get confused - the new CBA did away with a player's right to demand a trade the following season after having been traded in the middle of a long term contract, but some contracts are grandfathered in. Would DeJesus have that right or not? If he would, I'd say there's virtually zero chance of acquiring him. He'd have far, far, far more value to the Royals than he would to the Cubs. I don't see how that would substantially change his value. Especially to the point where the Royals would value him far more. Are you kidding? The Royals have him for the next three years at $14.05 total. With the Cubs, he'd effectively opt out and you'd have to either trade him with zero leverage or else sign him to a market-price deal.

  20. Yes, please. When your manager won't use the 12th pitcher, you're already going with an 11-man staff. Might as well replace Mr. Invisible with another hitter that can help you. I've always been more in favor of the 11 man staff, but I really have no hope that it would happen. It really should, especially now that we're pretty free of LOOGYs and ROOGYs and have several guys that can pitch multiple innings.

  22. Not sure, but the last couple years it's been 3 p.m. CT.
  23. I'm sure a number of teams would like to have Jason Marquis. I'm equally certain that no teams are willing to take Jason Marquis' contract.
