  1. The most important aspect of defensive positioning? Facing the batter as the pitch is delivered.
  2. What's Leo Mazzone up to? He said GOOD pitching coaches. Maddux, Glavine, and Smoltz's coattails retired with them.
  3. Better defense. No annoying pause in his delivery. That's all I've got. Walk rate.
  4. The way Heyman wrote that suggests that they're going to interview some new candidates. Not sure that's what he meant, though.
  5. He just had TJ surgery.
  6. No chance Ridling gets added. Jackson seems like an extreme longshot.
  7. Given Cardinal luck, it's likely that Matheny will be MLB's next great manager.
  8. I can't wait to meet his siblings, Merlot and Tempranillo.
  9. No idea why this is. It has to do with visa issues.
  10. If Theo and Jed start handing out Grabowish contracts, it will be extremely difficult for people to continue insisting that the curse doesn't exist.
  11. Looks like Mickey Rourke with Michael Douglas' haircut.
  12. Has there been any word on whether the Cubs exercised their option on Samardzija?
  13. How do you get to $70.6? The only way I can get there is if Dempster is at $16.0. That would mean that 2/3 of the $3 he deferred is going to be paid this year. I use Cot's Baseball Contracts, which provides this spreadsheet: https://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=tt7HjIernphaSrv4wMWdUYg&output=html $19 for Soriano, $19 for Zambrano, $14 for Dempster, $6.5 for Byrd, $7 for Marmol, $3.1 for Marshall and still $2 to Silva. OK, thanks.

  15. Zambrano can stay, assuming Ricketts doesn't force the issue and they hire an actual major league manager and not a human nickname generator.
  16. LaPorta is an interesting name. Epstein/Hoyer/McLeod drafted him. I had a dream the other night where Theo was going after all "great prospects that went subpar at the majors". The only two I remember us getting were Dominic Brown (Marmol + prospect(s)) and Justin Smoak. LaPorta would fall in there. But that was the offseason theme. If that turns out to be true, I will begin to quote my dreams as "according to sources". Let's add Brandon Belt to that list!

  18. They don't have Theo anymore. I'd be surprised if anyone left in that front office knew what OBP was much less WAR. WAR? What is it good for?
  19. The backup catcher has more impact on wins and losses than the manager does.
  20. Unless protected, Burke is eligible for this winter's Rule 5 draft.
  21. What is the primary role/responsibility of the player who bats #2 in a batting order?
  22. And who would you have picked? Sonny Gray, for one.
  23. Folks, the Cubs just spent the ninth overall selection in a historically deep draft on... ...Pedro Feliz. Wilken is awful. Hendry is a human catastrophe. (Sorry, Tim!)
  24. This could finally be the move that makes everyone fully understand that this is the worst organization in professional sports.
