  2. Soto and Soriano batting 4 and 5 is an independent league team.
  3. I like Rizzo fine and I'm no Porcello fanboy, but that seems like a lot more than "reasonable" for Anthony F. Rizzo. He's still a year removed from top prospect status and that alone is worth something. While Porcellos still young, his stock has gone nowhere but down since he came to the big leagues. Lake had a good fall and was very good last year until he hit AA and I think teams might have taken some notice but he's far from a top prospect. Russell's a strong pen lefty but all and all he's just a guy and a replaceable one at that. I think it's very fair. I don't know how badly you think that the Pads want to unload Rizzo but if you think that a guy who's projecting to be a 4th starter, a high ceiling but very questionable prospect, and a solid middle reliever is too much then I don't know what you'd expect him to cost.I understand that Rizzo himself is a high ceiling but questionable prospect but that top prospect status carries a decent amount of weight. Opinions can differ, of course, but I don't think Rizzo is a "high ceiling" guy. He's a lot more Lyle Overbay than Adrian Gonzalez.

  5. As long as we're having fun, let's make it a real blockbuster: Tigers get: Garza, Vitters, Jay Jackson Padres get: Castellano, Porcello, Russell, Lake Cubs get: Turner, Smyly, Rizzo, Headley If it's possible for a minor leaguer to have negative trade value, Jay Jackson has it.
  6. the prospect the Padres get would have to be pretty good, which means the Tigers are giving up quite a bit here. Cubs might have to give up Wells to the Tigers to effectively replace Porcello.
  7. If... ...the Tigers are fed up with Porcello and can't see him helping them win a title... (seems possible, given his performance) ...and... ...Epstein and Hoyer are interested in Porcello... (seems unlikely, given his profile and the things they value) ...it might make sense to expand the deal to include a Porcello for Zambrano or Wells swap (with cash included in Zambrano's case, of course). I wonder how Porcello's arsenal would play as a reliever.
  8. Other than mental illness, why would anyone get rid of Travis Wood to replace him with Rick Porcello?
  9. Maybe you've heard of Rick Porcello by his other name - "Brett Tomko".
  10. Breaking news - Rick Porcello sucks.
  11. I think at the time BA was way over rated, which has made this trade seem a lot worse than it really was. If I remember correctly Madlock only had 1 or 2 more really good years in his career after he left the Cubs. Murcer and Ontiveros were not very good, but they both put up at least 1 solid season for the Cubs. I can easily think of 3 much worse trades that the Cubs have made. Bill Madlock was a very, very, very good baseball player. Career OPS+: Ron Santo - 125 Bill Madlock - 123 By the way, Bobby Murcer was also a very, very, very good baseball player. The problem was that he was 30 years old at the time of the trade. Madlock was 25.
  12. The age difference is a big deal, but I think Rizzo is closer to a future .800 OPS guy than a future .900 OPS guy. I hope leadership doesn't develop an unnatural fixation on him. Quit dicking around and sign Fielder. $170/7 with an opt-out after year 4.
  13. Why wouldn't the Rays just keep Rizzo, since they have a big hole at 1B?
  14. Offer him a Wakefield-style contract. $2.5 million per year with infinite club options at that price.
  15. From Toronto, if we can get one of the big league ready arms (Alvarez/McGuire), one of the outfielders (Gose/Marisnick), and one of the high ceiling arms (Nicolino/Hutchison/Syndergaard), that deal needs to be done immediately. Unfortunately, I doubt we get that much.
  16. davell, would you trade Garza to the Jays for Henderson Alvarez, Deck McGuire, and one of Justin Nicolino/Drew Hutchison/Noah Syndergaard?
  17. From the Jays, I wonder if Theo and Jed would prefer three starting pitchers or two starting pitchers and an outfielder.
  18. That return for Bailey doesn't bode well for getting good value in a Marmol trade.
  19. Or there might be a slight chance that he was occupied with other things between the 21st and 28th of December.
  20. If you're going to trade him, trade him now and replace him with Kuroda. Assuming you can avoid giving Kuroda a no-trade clause, you can then trade him also at the deadline.
  21. Man, if true, that's some wild stuff. These new guys are out of control!
  22. In the extremely unlikely event Toronto would give up that package for Garza and Rhee, keep Marisnick and sign Fielder!
