  1. They almost certainly wouldn't accept that, but they might accept a 6-7 year deal written so Fielder could opt out after year 3 or 4.
  2. "Selling" doesn't help much when (1) the parts you're selling are rusted and defective and (2) your own amateur player procurement and development organizations suck. Let's hope (2) changes so that we'll occasionally have a worthwhile piece to sell.
  3. I don't know if this was mentioned on here, but there was a blogger who suggested that the reason that the prospects haven't been named yet is that the Cubs have granted the Reds a window to negotiate an extension with Marshall. If they sign him to an extension, the Cubs get better prospects in return.

  5. toonster, you value Wade Davis more highly than Travis Wood?
  6. I'm predicting RHPs Kyle Lotzkar and J.C. Sulbaran.
  7. That would be horrible and, if you believe Jim Bowden's tweet that a "Cubs source" told him that the prospects are "key to the deal", it seems unlikely that those are the guys.
  8. Reed Johnson is the kind of guy who might be able to get you another team's Kyler Burke or Lendy Castillo at the trade deadline. Is that worth a million dollars? I don't know.
  9. I'd rather have Keith Moreland than Mitch Moreland.
  10. Yup. They had an offer out for Pujols, but when that fell through they spent the money on strippers, blow, and that guy they claimed off waivers from the Royals. And we thought that Hendry spent poorly. I don't know that I'd call that "spending poorly". It depends on the quality of the blow, how the strippers look, what happens in the VIP room, and what you can get for Barney.
  11. As a LF, Marlon Byrd is solid only in that he does not exist in the vapor phase.
  12. By my count, the roster currently stands at 37.
  13. This is just ridiculous. And stupid. True. The Cubs' organization is in much worse shape than the Pirates'.
  14. I fully expect him to be compensation to Boston. Also, with Lawrie, Aviles, and Scotoru, unless one of them are traded the Red Sox have a full middle infield and I don't see Gonzalez taking one of their jobs but my bet is that we'll let them keep him anyway as part of the compensation. This is moot now, since he was traded to Houston, but you can't do that without first letting every other team have a shot at him under the Rule 5 rules.
  15. Not until the summer (without his permission).
  16. They can't do that without a baseball reason to do so.
  17. Gun enthusiast Wilson is excited that, in Miami, he'll be able to fire his weapons on the street.
  18. Sounds more and more like Flahertys a sitting duck, not that it wasn't already assumed. If Theo and Hoyer knew how in demand guys like Barmes, Carroll, and Kennedy would be I wonder of they would have rostered him or at least tried to trade him before the roster deadline. A. "a utility infielder that can play shortstop" B. "Ryan Flaherty" B does not equal A
  19. The Anatole is monstrous. I am quite sure Theo and Jed are getting sloshed at the Gossip bar lounge while chatting up Boras and Lozano. Not to mention, the perfect 10 ladies who frequent this lounge. Ahh, I love Dallas. With the Rule 5 and all, I figure tomorrow will be more interesting. Rule 5 draft is Thursday.
  20. Did they stay in or eat out? Hotel Anatole would be room service. Absolutely the best hotel in Dallas. LOL
  21. McNutt, LeMahieu, Beliveau?
  22. Is that Garza rumor your guess or something you heard? I'd be surprised if the gave us Dallas Braden for Soriano. I'd be surprised if Soriano waives his no-trade clause to go to Oakland.
  23. They're prohibited from putting him on the 40-man roster.
