  1. It's not a full NTC, but it doesn't allow him to be traded to the Cubs without his permission. Why would it cost him money? Tax issues?
  2. Reality, dude. Check it out. Joke, dude. Check it out. Mine, too. :D
  3. Vazquez has a no-trade to Philly and he intends to use it.
  4. The Padres did make an excellent trade. Nady for Cameron.
  5. Green has a NTC clause and would probably want his 2008 paycheck guaranteed to waive it, even in the unlikely event they'd trade him. Gonzalez is a 10/5 guy and would probably want his 2007 paycheck guaranteed to approve a trade.
  6. Strongly disagree. I'll bet you an I-told-you-so, if it comes to that.
  7. Zero chance the Cubs non-tender Patterson, IMO.
  8. Wonder what type of prospect they'd give up for him or if Shawn Green's available. He's from Chicago correct?? They're not especially interested in moving Green. They'd like to move Gonzalez and possibly Glaus.
  9. One might consider the athletic ability required to get out of the way of an incoming baserunner.
  10. There's a chance Wellemeyer could be a good fit for Coors Field, assuming that any pitcher could. He really doesn't rely on his breaking ball much at all. Fastball-change. Could work OK in the light air. Worth a flyer. It'd be no dumber than your typical Rockie acquisition.
  11. $18/2 + Guzman + Pie + Sing I exaggerate, but Hendry has been giving up the mint for guys this fall...I worry what AZ would walk away with from us.......I would rather it was just $$$$ Is Sing back in the Cubs system? They left him unprotected. He is in the Cubs system. He never left.
  12. Sergio Mitre has a great sinker. Unfortunately, he can't throw it for strikes and he has nothing else he can use to effectively control the count. If the hitters don't swing at his sinker early in the count, he falls behind and gets into trouble. If he throws his 4-seam fastball early in the count, he gets pounded. I wish him well, though.
  13. They'll get #2, all right! #2 Get it? (I did that in my best Darrell Hammond-as-Sean Connery on Celebrity Jeopardy voice).
  14. Seriously, why Elarton? He's been horrible over the years. You have pretty high expectations. I guess that's to be expected. You do post here. :? The last two years in Cleveland he's been decent (NL-equivalent ERA just above 4).
  15. I don't really want Elarton unless we trade Jerome Williams. I don't think Elarton is enough better than Rusch (if at all) to warrant signing him if it's not to replace Williams.
  16. Not yet. Word is he wants two years and the Indians only want to give one.
  17. I would rather it was just $$$$ Me too, but not for 4 or 5 years. I suggested Scott Elarton for a 2-year, "low" dollar contract, but was dismissed. Actually, I'm happy with the starting pitching the way it is right now, but I'm afraid we're going to have to trade one of Williams/Hill/Guzman to get an outfielder or two or a middle infielder. The truth is, with Kerry Wood taking up 11%-12% of the payroll, we're not going anywhere if he doesn't contribute a great deal (unless we get top-level starting pitching from an unexpected source, like Hill or Guzman).
  18. I'm not very interested in Vazquez, but his would be a much less substantial commitment - $18/2.
  19. If Guzman is not going to appear in the majors at all this season, trade him. He'll be out of options spring 2007. It'll be too much to ask for him to stick for good at that time if that's his first exposure to the majors ever.
  20. Wake me up when the guy can throw at least 200 innings with an ERA under 4.
  21. Please stay away from the wildly overrated Kevin Millwood. Please.
  22. Forgive me if this was mentioned before. There are other costs beyond the salary that would have been paid to Furcal. For a contract of that length, there may have been insurance issues or other things. It's not inappropriate for ownership to have final approval. It may have indeed been a foolish decision without merit, but we can't know that without all of the information.
  23. Well, I should have said I'm not completely against trading Williams, but if they do, they have to get a really good bat for him.....and probably still find another starting pitcher. What do you consider to be "a really good bat"?
  24. If the Cubs don't trade Williams, Hill, or Guzman, the outfield is very likely going to be dreadful. In a market where Matt Morris might get $27/3, the Cubs should be able to get a very good outfield option for Jerome Williams.
