  1. Nolasco has a higher ceiling than Wellemeyer and projects to be a starter. Nolasco is also less than a year away from the big leagues. If I was another team, I'd rather want Nolasco than Wellemeyer. In my opinion, Wellemeyer is underappreciated, but Nolasco is far more valuable - mostly because he has three options remaining and Wellemeyer has none remaining.
  2. Like I said, I want to ensure that we have a productive outfield. Depth, depth, depth. The Cubs probably aren't getting a dominant outfielder.
  3. They're in the same class offensively. Defensively, though, Mench is a LF who would be masquerading as a RF. Kearns is a top RF defender.
  4. I don't know if the Cubs have the trade fodder to pull it off, but I wouldn't mind adding three new outfielders and making Murton a platoon guy and 4th OF. If we are really going to live with Ronny, Neifi, and Jerry as our middle infield trio, I would like to do everything possible to make sure that the outfield is productive, one way or another. Kearns for Mitre and Nolasco (if that's really on the table, I would have pulled a muscle lunging for the nearest ink pen). Wilkerson for Williams and Patterson? Pierre for ? Pierre-Cedeno-Lee-Ramirez-Wilkerson-Kearns-Barrett-Hairston Actually, I'd prefer to keep Walker and hit him #2, but it sure seems like he's gone.
  5. Whatever you tell him. I don't think he's arby eligible yet. But, I don't know. He's second-time arb eligible.
  6. What is kearns going to make in 06? Probably $2.5-$3.0.
  7. Fearless prediction: The Astros decline to offer arbitration to Roger Clemens on Wednesday.
  8. Has nothing to do with that. Signing Mabry doesn't cost the Cubs a draft choice.
  9. He had a change of heart after the Furcal fiasco.
  10. I suppose so, but, if he did, he's pretty stupid. Or loyal. These two traits are not mutually exclusive.
  11. Is it not possible that at the time Sing re-signed, he didn't know that he wasn't going to be rostered? I suppose so, but, if he did, he's pretty stupid.
  12. That's not exactly true. You can trade the right for another team to put him in the minors. That's a luxury they don't get if they take him in the Rule 5 draft. I think his point was that at some juncture this offseason, anyone could have had Sing for free, and they all passed. Might've been because he's a 6 year minor league FA. Right. Re-post: Sing was a six-year minor league free agent. Any team could have offered to sign him and put him on their 40-man roster. It doesn't seem as though any team made him such an offer. I suppose it's possible that a team did and Sing said, "No thanks. I'd rather stay with my hometown team even though they don't value me enough to roster me.", but that seems extremely unlikely. If that did happen, a team could take him in the Rule 5 draft "against his wishes", but that seems truly far-fetched.
  13. Sing has essentially zero trade value.
  14. Be careful. What if you thought he was saying "Pie" and he was really saying "Petrick"?
  15. If it happens, it'll be Zito for Bradley and two top prospects.
  16. Overheard at the Winter Meetings: "Hendry, you'll get nothing and like it!"
  17. I doubt we have enough to make this happen, but how about a huge deal for Lugo, Huff, and Gathright - then send Gathright (and something else) on to Florida for Pierre?
  18. Are you being facetious? No. The Cubs don't do that. Never have, never will. If it's not spent this year, it's gone.
  19. Either save the money for next year Can we please stay within the realm of reality?
  20. Accepting Milton with Dunn would reduce the cost from Zambrano down to only Prior.
  21. Why not? He's a better defender than Pierre. Do you think that the realities of the situation matter to the Cubs?
  22. I could be wrong, but I don't believe these are actual "meetings" that are gavelled into session. It's just a gathering of agents and executives in one place to facilitate discussions leading to transactions.
  23. It seems very unlikely that the Cubs would have interest in Brad Wilkerson as a CF. If they acquire him, it will be to play RF.
