  1. 21-10
  2. Not a chance Mizzou was going to win in Snyder's last game! I am SO upset that he retired! Hope we get someone else in there who can light a fire under this young team. Top 3 candidates: 1. Leavitt 2. Venables 3. Gary Patterson I'll take any of the 3! I don't think Leavitt will leave USF. He has a good thing going in Tampa, and he now has a situation where he can make a run at a few BCS bids out of the Big East. I know he was an assistant at K-State, but he owns that program at USF now. I could see him using K-State as leverage to get a raise.
  3. Update? They dropped FSN here in Iowa when they picked up Comcast SportsNet Chicago and it's not available on GamePlan. Fresno went for it on 4th and 1 and got it. They are driving. Up 14-10, currently with 1st and 10 at the 29.
  4. Penn State going to the title game after 3 or 4 years of calls for JoePa's head would be one of the greatest stories in the history of college football IMHO. hey at least there's hope for Illinois if Penn State can recover from that mess they had a few years ago  Joe Paterno >>>>>>>>>>>> Ron Zook
  5. USC isn't going down easy. They are already in the red zone.
  6. Miami now may play in the Fiesta instead of OSU. Depends on which game is more attractive. ND/Miami would stir up some real memories for many fans :D I don't think Miami has a shot over OSU. Miami fans do not travel, and the Buckeyes have some of the best fans in sports. They wuld be a better boost to the local economy than the Canes. Plus, Irish, Buckeyes would be pretty great, too. The Buckeyes do deserve it more anyway. Both of there losses were to top 3 teams by a combined 10 points.
  7. TD Fresno 14-7. My stupid cable company doesn't carry FSN. I would like to watch this one.
  8. Fresno tonight might be your best shot. Wouldn't that be something to see JoePa go for the National title.
  9. Of all the good teams in the ACC, if FSU somehow beats VT in the ACC title game, that conference will probably get only one bid to the BCS thanks to ND and O$U. That would be great. 1 SEC team and 1 ACC team in the BCS, and the ACC team could potentially be 7-5. Plus, USF controls their own destiny in the Big East.
  10. There goes that offer to AJ Burnett. Those stadiums aren't cheap, especially when you have to build them twice.
  11. Canes lose. Congrats to Va. Tech for clinching a BCS berth. FSU might lose to Illinois at this point (Not really, but they do suck).
  12. I suspect that the anti-clutch sentiment doesn't extend to football. Is there any sort of SAFR? I dunno. Maybe Troy Aikman can invent it. He could be the Bill James of Football between that and his system for ranking offenses, and defenses.
  13. Someone on this board believes in "clutch"? Nevermind, don't want to open that can of worms in a thread dedicated to the greatness of the 1st place Bears. Is Delhomme better than Orton right now, yes. Absolutly. However, despite Orton's craptacular game against the Bengals, he and Delhomme have the same number of interceptions thrown this season (10). Of course Delhomme has had 20 more attempts. But all of that is apples and oranges anyway. The offensive stlyles of these two teams could not be more different. The Bears want to run 40 times a game and the Panthers want to pass until they are inside the 5, and then give it to Stephen Davis. Anyway, it'll be a tough one, but.... Bears 17 Panthers 16
  14. I wouldn't count the Cards out of the running for Giles just yet. I do believe, as I have for a few weeks now, that Giles most likley destination is Yankee Stadium, but it's far from a done deal. If true, this is good news (the Giles part anyway). Don't you just know that if they sign Dotel he will become the setup man he was in Houston? Seems like a typical Cardinal situation.
  15. Who else is ready for this game to start? I havn't been this pumped for a Bears game since the playoff game with Philly a few years back. I know all the "experts" are saying the Bears running game will be shut down by the great Panthers defense, but don't believe them. We heard the same thing leading up to the Baltimore game. I'm not saying the Bears will win, but I think it's foolish to write them off. It will be a great matchup between one of the NFL's best offense's, and the NFL's best defense. If the Bears front four can put some pressure on Delhomme, there is a great chance of forcing some interceptions. That will be the key to this game. By the way, I'm cheering for a tie on MNF, since I can't let myself want the Packers to win.
  16. Gammons was on the Dan Patrick show today and he again mentioned Corey for Wilkerson. He said the Patterson for Wilkerson trade was floated out there, and then changed subjects. Dan Patrick didn't ask a followup.
  17. So to catch up...The report by Bruce Levine on ESPN 1000 at 5pm was that the Cubs are near completion of a deal of Pierre. The Cubs would send 2 minor leaguers. No word on who they are. Has any other news outlet picked up this report? Has ESPN 1000 given any more detail into the report? Any other news that I missed?
  18. If you trade that much for Wilkerson and Livian, I doubt you have enoug trade bullets left to get Dunn or Abreu. You'd be left to trying to sign Giles or looking at other targets. You think the Cubs are giving up too much in that deal? When I wrote it I figured I would get the response of "That isn't enough to get it done." I would say the only (potentially) major loss in that trade is Hill, and I'm far from sold on him. I never said you were giving up too much, just when we do that deal, we won't have the right players left to get a Dunn or Abreu. You don't think the Reds would get enough in this deal: Cubs get: Dunn Twins get: Walker Reds get: Pie, JC Romero, Jerome Williams I think it could be done. It won't, but it could be done.
  19. Were his projections close to reality?
  20. IU opens Friday. A tough non-conference schedule got tougher with the loss of D.J. White for 6 weeks. He should be back for Big Ten play. The biggest game non-conference is Duke in Bloomington on Nov 30. They also play UK, @ Charlotte, and UCONN (in February).

  22. Thats good news. I acutally think the Yankees have to be the leader for his services. If you believe the agent he has spoke to Cashman 3 times already about Giles. My guess is the Yankees interest in Giles is to keep Matsui at the bargaining table. I figure when Matsui is signed, the Yankees interest in Giles will wane. While the Yankees would be in awe over the offensive production of a Matsui-Giles-Sheffield outfield, I think if they sign Matsui, they'll look for defense in CF. Possibly. All mentions of Giles to the Yankees have him pegged as the CF. With or without Matsui, the Yankees have enough offense to get by with a defensive center fielder. Maybe it is just my perception, but the Yankees have always seemed to care more about finding ways to plug as many good bats into a lineup, than on worrying about catching the ball. I expect them to make a run at Giles for CF, if they can't land Torii Hunter in a trade.
  23. How about C-Patt, Mitre, Hill, and any 1 of Novoa, Ice, Welly for Wilkerson, Livan Hernandez? Cubs would pick up all of the Wilkerson, Hernandez salaries. Then sign Furcal and upgrade a corner outfield spot (Abreu, Giles, Dunn), and play ball.

  25. Those are Bill James projections. 21 HRs for Pie? Seriously? I'll take those numbers from Pie, Cedeno, and Murton. wow, .874 OPS. I'll say right now that if all three posted a +.800 OPS, this team would be vastly improved (assuming they actually got to play). How did James make his projections? I have no idea how he comes up with those numbers for prospects. I believe he uses 4-year averages for veterans projections. Looks too good to be true (and I'm sure it is).
