  1. Could be the Bedard deal to Dodgers, reds, etc.... I'd love for the hold up on Roberts to be that we are going to include Pie only if we get some interesting names that are coming to the O's in a deal for Bedard.
  2. The logic behind non-tendering him is this (and only this). A) You absolutely know that he will not be ready to pitch before August B) You absolutely know that no team will be interested in trading anything of value for him C) You are unsure of either of the above, but you absolutely need his $3M in another deal to improve the team. C) Seems like the most likely scenario to me
  3. Care to share what you wrote? I can't remember...its one of those things where a window pops up. I said something about, you're entitled to your opinion, but if you cannot articulate why you feel that way, then you should chose another subject. I think I closed with "the point of your article is to make Cuban sound like an idiot, but instead you just make yourself sound like an idiot" That might explain the brief response. I did an interview with Imrem for a journalism assignment my sophomore year. He was very accommodating. (Bruce was out of town) But yeah, the article was rather substance free. I just wouldn't call him an idiot. I really didn't expect a response...I was just speaking the truth. Even if I was vehemently against Cuban, I still would have drawn the same conclusion. I understand its gotta be tough to have deadlines and write stuff every day and the such, but that was really pathetic.
  4. meh, i think this sums it up I'm paraphrasing, of course.
  5. now that, my friend, is a well though-out deal. You can probably subtract Marshall, its not like the Pirates need 7 lefties in their rotation.
  6. Murton really has value. I wish he would play here, but I get why they are dealing him. He'll likely be part of the package that lands Hendry Brian Roberts. I'd prefer him and Gallagher go toward landing us Blanton, and Pie and Hill and EPatt land us Roberts and Bedard, and Dempster and Marshall and Derosa land us Burnett. (Just listing some of the rumors in this thread!) Imagine, if you can... Zambrano Bedard Burnett Lilly Blanton  =D> \:D/ :pig:   That could theoretically work. And in another thread we are making fun of the orioles forum...hilarity. Yeah, Beane is just drooling for Murton and Gallagher for Blanton. Dempster, Marshall, and DeRosa for Burnett??? OMG, we should offer that to the twins for Santana. I thought I've been keeping up with this thread, but I haven't read those as rumors. Not here, not anywhere.
  7. It's apparent the Cubs don't view Patterson as a viable second baseman any longer, and as a LF, I'm less than enamored with him. I'm not upset over losing him. Murton- I hate to give him up as I think he has skills that our team could use. He doesn't really have a position. I can give him up as well. Gallagher- This is the one that hurts. I'd love to replace him with Veal, Hart, or Marshall. Guzman- meh. At one time what could we have gotten for him? He's damaged goods. All in all, it's not a horrible deal on our part. Essentially, Murton + Gallagher for Roberts. I'd rather choose another target than Roberts if we're trading Gallagher though. That's my thought on it as well. Why give up so much for Roberts, why not explore at other options which might make more sense. That package isn't a ton different than what the O's got for Tejada.
  8. Roberts had a 285 EQA last year DeRosa had a 268 EQA last year 17 point difference Theriot had a 238 EQA last year Greene had a 263 EQA last year 25 point difference And thats not even considering the defensive upgrade.
  9. By "competition" you mean see what happens in 50 ABs in spring training when they are rusty playing against rusty pitching and rusty fielding? We know exactly what Theriot and what Everett can do. Theres no need for a "competition". Cedeno obviously is a different story.
  10. Weren't the cubs one of the best defensive teams in 2007?
  11. Hard to disagree. He is also coming off a broken wrist, no? He was much better after the broken wrist than before. Post broken wrist he was hitting near peak levels. 8 homers in August IIRC.
  12. Hills opposing batters OPS in 2007 = 730 Bedards opposing batters OPS in 2007 = 744
  13. Manager Lou Piniella, who called Fukudome a cross between Ichiro Suzuki and Hideki Matsui, said last week he expected to bat the new Cub fourth or fifth in the order. Wow. I didn't think he had enough power to bat 4th. I always thought he was a leadoff or #2 guy. Just like OBP isnt the ONLY important thing out of a leadoff hitter, power isnt the ONLY important thing out of a middle of the order hitter. Also, while he doesn't have HR power, he definitely has great doubles power and will probably lead the team or be very close to the lead in 2bs.
  14. The disturbing thing I read in that quote is that, assuming the Cubs do get Roberts, Hendry and Piniella STILL think Soriano should leadoff. Dumb, dumb, dumb. This makes infinitely more sense: Roberts, Lee, Ramirez, Soriano, Fukudome, Soto, then others. I'm guessing Soriano Roberts Lee Fukudome Ramirez (4/5 could flip flop) Soto Pie Theriot It'd be great if we pulled a TLR and bat Theriot 9th and the pitcher 8th.
  15. Maybe because in the context of the cubs, our toolsy prospects is just code for "suck".
  16. Why don't we just forget Figgins and sign Lofton?
  17. Smarter child told me he loved me. How do you know smarter child isn't female...SEXIST!!!!!!
  18. Yeah, the best is when you guys argue 1-1, followed closely by when you guys are arguing opposite sides of a debate and people confuse you.
  19. I had no idea Tokyo was 14 hours, 59 minutes and 45 seconds ahead of us. Weird.
  20. Unless I am mistaken, all international merchandise revenue goes directly into revenue sharing, as well as online sales except for zip codes in a 200 mile radius. The only way the Cubs can profit directly off of this deal is by selling ads to Japanese, or a cable deal. One way is to have the green screen behind home plate display Japanese ads whenever Fukudome is batting, because obviously they'll get more play in Japan than say, Ryan Theriot's. I think you've got it right, unless the newest CBA changed things. Yup, this is the conclusion we came to last year when we were talking about Matsuzaka. The cubs make $1M/year for two Under Armor signs that are up every day in the OF. These aren't on TV for every pitch though. I have no clue how much the behind the batter signs cost, but most likely they would only be purchased specifically when Fukudome would be batting. Its not going to be boku bucks.
  21. How does it sound like the cubs and pads are neck and neck?
