  1. I thought I read some speculation somewhere that he still could be available so I left him on.
  2. I've been following the talks over at orioleshangout.com, and the general consensus is that MacPhail is going to completely dismantle the team and start over. Bedard and Tejada are pretty much as good as gone. It wouldn't surprise me seeing Roberts traded as well. I agree. Roberts is only signed for two more years. Hes 30, so he'll probably be on the decline after this contract so it won't make sense to sign him to an extention. The problem is that there isn't a big demand for 2bs out there (except of course for Hendry), so they probably wont be able to get max value.
  3. Link I posted this yesterday in the Kaz thread, but it should be here. Possibly realistic trade targets: Hamilton Dunn Griffey Ibanez Church Scott Drew Garrett Anderson Ethier McLouth Kubel Crawford FAs: Green Lofton Jenkins Bradley Bonds
  4. Johan Santana-S- Twins Dec. 1 - 3:32 pm et The Minneapolis Star Tribune's Lavelle E. Neal III believes the Yankees are now offering Phil Hughes, Melky Cabrera and Ian Kennedy in return for Johan Santana. He also says the Twins are no longer interested in a Red Sox package that includes Coco Crisp rather than Jacoby Ellsbury. If both of his beliefs are true, then it would seem as though the a trade between the Twins and Yankees would get done any day now. However, Neal goes on to say that he thinks the Mets are backing down on not offering Jose Reyes and that Santana might prefer the NL to the AL. Color us skeptical about everything presented here. Source: Minneapolis Star Tribune Related: Jose Reyes, Jacoby Ellsbury, Red Sox, Mets, Yankees
  5. Are you talking about the Victor Diaz who plays for the Texas Rangers? I guess so, sue for not tracking the whereabouts of Diaz. I think they just released him.
  6. De Los Santos, Gio, and Sweeny might get it done. Gio can step in if they decide to trade a starter.
  7. maybe he was sober today Naw, probably one of his teenage kids made the deal.
  8. The only impact bat that I see that meets the Cubs requirements outside of Fukudome is Milton Bradley. Geoff Jenkins is probably next in line, but I think I'd rather see them grab Jose Guillen over Jenkins, but they won't do that. Free agent wise you're right. I think Hendry might pull an interesting trade for a left bat if Fukedome doesn't sign. I would have loved Bradley if he didn't have the knee problem until July or so. Jenkins/Burnitz they seem the same to me and I agree Gullen would be better.....did he have steroid problems? Or maybe they can get Jones from Detroit for Hill and Veal! Possibly realistic trade targets: Hamilton Dunn Griffey Ibanez Church Scott Drew Garrett Anderson Ethier McLouth Kubel FAs: Green Lofton Jenkins Bradley Ohh yeah, and Barry Bonds.
  9. Heck, in the Wrigley OF, I think RF is harder than CF.

  11. I don't suppose Hendry is bright enough to go for Randy Winn instead of Dave Roberts. I don't know how bad Roberts' contract is but if it means we get rid of Marquis, I'm all for it. 1 more year, 7.5M. Marquis has 08:$6.375M, 09:$9.875M Not true. Roberts has two years remaining at $6.5 per. Geez, I can't read.

  13. Isn't the reported twins asking price Kemp, LaRoche, and Kershaw? No need to add Hu or upgrade from Kershaw to Billingsley to get it done. And the dodgers aren't willing to do that. I'm guessing Kershaw will be the sticking point for both teams. This would have been a whole lot easier if Elbert didn't have shoulder surgery. Upgrade from Kershaw to Billingsley? I've heard a lot of talk that teams prefer Kershaw. Given that Kershaw is like 15 years old, I would have to think he is the better prospect. Thats the whole point, theres a ton of risk with Kershaw (although a bigger reward), and much less with Billingsley, although theres a lower ceiling. Kershaw is a prospect, Billingsley is a known commodity.
  14. We might not like his game, but it's not fair to call Kaz a loser. Because he's clearly the winner here. The Cubs still lose, because now they probably move on to plan B from Kaz, which could only be worse. I dread Plan B. I'm so frustrated with Hendry, that I'd just as soon they don't make any moves this offseason, because I probably won't like anything he does. Call it an offseason now before any more damage gets done. I hesitate to bring this up, but one of my sources did say there was "some talk (nothing substantive)" of the Giants interested in pursuing a Dave Roberts for Jason Marquis deal in conjunction with a Miguel Cabrera for Lincecum/Cain plus prospects deal. wouldn't bother me at all. Roberts has no trade protection. If he wants anything to waive that (like an extention) no way. It'd be nice to clear money in 2009. Would it be some sort of rotation with Murton, Pie, and Roberts? I could live with it if we get Tejada.
  15. Pridie isn't good. He's the CF equivalent of Ryan Theriot Yeah, I know...thats right up the Twins alley.
  16. Agreed. I don't understand why teams continue to deal with the Yankees. Sure, money is great. But, if it keeps a team from getting deep into the playoffs, find a different team to pillage. If I'm Minnesota, as soon as the Yankees state "We will not part with Hughes or Chamberlain", I say, "pleasure talking to you, call me when you change your mind, good bye". I'd also add "say, do you have Theo Epstein's cell number handy?"
  17. "Believe" as in a guess, or "believe" as in you've heard? I'm guessing Jenkins signs with SD.
  18. If they sign him for similar money (probably only for 3 years though) as Linebrink then they are idiots.
  19. Like others have said its mostly the fact that the pitching market is ridiculously thin. Also, I think it helps that there is another Ace on the market in Santana, and multiple teams after him with great farm systems. The three teams that do end up missing out on Santana (since it seems like him being traded is a forgone conclusion) will be sorely disappointed. Most likely their offers or some rumors of their offers will be out to the public, so Beane will have the upper hand in terms of leverage because he'll know what the teams are willing to give up and be in a position to demand nearly that much. Additionally, Haren is coming off of an amazing first half of the season which got a ton of publicity. Hes also 3 years away from FA so a team acquiring him will have him under control for cheap, as opposed to Santana who you are basically paying a posting fee to sign for big money. Beane could argue that Haren should garner a better package than Santana.

I've heard a lot of talk that teams prefer Kershaw. I wouldn't doubt it. IMO the risk/reward ratio on Billingsley is better.
  21. Sounds like if the BoSox upgrade from Lester to Bucholtz or Crisp to Elsbury the Twins will call the Yanks to see if they'll upgrade from Kennedy to Hughes. Even though Melky sucks, a Hughes, Melky, Jackson/Horne deal is probably better than a Lester, Elsbury, Lowry, Masterson/Bowden deal. It'd be pretty idiotic of the Twins to trade away both Garza and Santana and not get back a stud pitcher. My guess is the Yanks crack. They need it more than the BoSox.
  22. 11-20 released...3 Rays pitchers.
