  1. He wrote back! Wow, that had more substance than his article.
  2. I have and enjoyed it. Good memories of Harry (the book covers his entire career, not just his years with the Cubs). And it does come packaged with a CD, even if Bruce himself doesn't realize that (see comments earlier in this thread). :D I've read it too...its a real quick read (but good), the substance is in the CD.
  3. Damn..I'll be in my bowling league...Now I won't know and will be bowling like crap with this on my mind I'm bowling tonite too. I'm gonna be wearing my cubs scarf for good luck tonite. Luck on Fukudome I mean. I don't care how I bowl. :D Bowling wearing a scarf? God I hope you don't get too close to the ball return.
  4. I really don't understand how a Rauch/Cordero is all that valuable to San Deigo. The trade proposal makes no sense and we should not use it as a basis for anything for our proposal.
  5. If the Reds get Bedard they'll have a good rotation next year. Man, that sucks! Doesn't this sound like hes mocking?
  6. Interesting first post. You blast a reporter for not revealing his sources and for implying there is no way Cubs fans could actually be requesting Fukudome jerseys because he doesn't have an official number yet. Yes, interesting. Reporter? Kaplan only knows what Jim Hendry tells him to say. His constant references to his free golf games, free dinners and having guests on to get free stuff is a little much. To tell me that Kerry Wood is some kind of hero because he re-signed with the Cubs, when the guy had no firm offers on the table from any other club, is laughable. But Kaplan thinks it must be important to promote Wood all he can to us fans. ??? Wood would've had plenty of offers. While we don't know how firm the other offers were, based on the report when he was signed, we did give him the most attractive offer by a fair margin. I completely agree in the point that Wood doesn't deserve to be deified for taking the best offer.
  7. If I were a GM, I'd probably rather just sign Tad Iguchi than trade anything of value for DeRosa.
  8. http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/sports/stories.nsf/cardinals/story/9E04A758BD1CF235862573AC0018F0A8?OpenDocument Let's hope they do. They'll win 75 games instead of just 70, and have an even more bleak future. Mozeliak is oblivious. I'd love for them to trade Rasmus and Reyes for 2 years of Bedard.
  9. I emailed the guy and politely told him he was an idiot. I suggest many many others do the same.
  10. You need to get "The book" above all else. http://www.insidethebook.com
  11. Man, you would have never guessed Colletti is a product of the Cubs organization.
  12. I know you're speaking of SS. But I don't agree with you on CF and RF. RF for one, we have Murton. Who could have a decent year but he will not be Fukudome good. KFUKU has very good defense on top of better offense. CF you have Pie. And Pie is no guarantee to be anything. So if they do get Figgins I think it's a huge upgrade. 2B is the only one I can agree with you on. I was on Derosa's side ever since I heard of the trade. I'd like him to be our 2B. But if Roberts can put up Derosa #'s + 50 SB I'm still happy with that. So we'll have a somewhat black hole in SS (BTW, it's still much better than it has been in a few years). If we get FUKU, FIG, and ROB I think that's going to be a very good offense. Not only that, maybe we can finally get some stability in the line-up. Figgins could be a huge upgrade or a marginal one. His stats this year were great, but his OBP was fueled by his high BA. It really doesn't look like much changed except more of his hits fell in. If he settles back around a .300 average, which is likely his upgrade will look marginal for the cost. Does anyone know what his linedrive % and his pitches per AB? http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=1580&position=3B
  13. Yes, we are assuming. But, every rumor is basically just that. Thanks for the quote. So, that reeks of 3 way deal between us, the Angels and the O's, if Pie is involved. Angels are interested in Bedard and Miggy. Of course, there was the original (insane) rumor that Pie was going to be involved in a Roberts deal. Most likely Kaplan was talking about that, which is insanely bunk.
  14. I did a quick and dirty comparison on Greene's fly outs, triples, and doubles using the hit charts on MLB.com and compared them to the dimensions of Wrigley. 7 of his FOs most likely would have been homers, 2 of his triples would have been homers, and 5 of his doubles would have been homers. This by no means is meant to be exact (obviously wind is a big factor), just an exercise to show the differences between Petco and Wrigley. If you make those changes, Greene's 2007 OPS goes from 759 to 793. Just glancing at 2006 hit charts and it probably would have had a bit of a smaller difference, but in 2005, there would have been a huge difference (eyeballing ~150% of the 2007 difference). A 265/310/490 seems entirely reasonable at Wrigley.
  15. Do you think he is going for both? The Figgins' rumors came out after the Roberts' deal cooled. I think Jim is going for one of them and Fukudome, not all three. It doesn't seem like the Cubs could afford all three anyways if they are keeping it around 120 mil. Interest has been rumored the whole time the Roberts thing was going on. Don't we crucify Hendy for having a one track mind and when he doesnt get plan A, we are screwed because he doesnt have plan B? If anything, this shows growth as a GM. Figgins isn't a plan B, he is part of plan A. And it doesn't show growth, it shows another unnecessary obsession. "If a player is left-handed, fast, and can play middle infield, we're interested" "I decided I like guys who can catch the ball" "It would be so much easier if Murton was left handed" Spending big money on relievers. Continually valuing about versatility (Neifi, Macias) Need I go on? While, I'm making an assumption that the Cubs are after EITHER Figgins or Roberts, unless I've missed some quotes, I think you are making an assumption that the Cubs are after BOTH Figgins and Roberts. I don't disagree at all that Hendry is an idiot with an insane obsession, but at least hes multi-tasking.

  17. http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseball/cubs/685090,cub120607.article That's because Murton has zero trade value, thanks to this stupid administration. Good position player prospect? We have them? Patterson Colvin Kroger
  18. That'd be nice. Maybe we can swindle Brandon Wood away from the Angels somehow as well I think that in that deal Wood would end up with the Orioles. I've posted this twice (with some tweaking), but it's obvious the Orioles would want Pie in a deal from the Cubs. The Cubs aren't going to want to include Pie unless he's replaced. Some have heard Hendry would trade Pie if he could get a player like Figgins. The Angels would like Tejada for third base, hence a three-way deal. Here's something that I had in mind: Angels get Tejada Cubs get Roberts and Figgins Orioles get Pie, Brandon Wood, Marshall, Ervin Santana, Cedeno, and Murton. That would be a framework, but other players might need to be involved to make it work. The Orioles might want better pitchers than Marshall and Santana. The Angels may feel they are giving away too much in Figgins, Wood, and Santana. So, some changes likely would need to be made, but the principals of Tejada to the Angels, Figgins and Robers to the Cubs, and Pie and Wood as part of the package to the Orioles could remain the same. Wood, Santana, and Figgins seems like an awful lot for Tejada. Each of those players is clearly better than Patton, Burke, Everett IMO.
  19. But do you really see Troy Patton as being a very good pitcher? His ceiling is a #3 IMO, if that. Hes not a top 20 pitching prospect.
  20. And the right deal would be to get sent to San Francisco? Ughh. He can forget about postseason baseball for a long time if that's the case. I think the right deal means an extention.
  21. To answer my own question, it looks like he followed Dombrowski around. Director of Player Development with the Expos from 1995-1998, Followed by VP and Assistant GM for Florida from 1998-2001. Maybe he's similar to what people suggested about Hendry, Peter Principle in action as a GM, but worth having around lower on the totem pole. His Wikipedia page must have been writtin by a Bucs fan. Its pretty hilarious.
  22. On their minor league careers Fuld has outslugged Reggie Willits, who spent more time at hitter-friendly parks than Fuld, and I keep seeing Willits bandied about in nice trade talks. I'm not saying Fuld's great, I'm saying he could have value and I'm not going to totally dump on him before he craps out in the majors. There's a certain low level of play that will get teams interested, and that's when you can play center field, hang around a .720 OPS or so with a .350 OBP, steal 15-20 bases and some team decides they'd rather have that guy leading off than paying $15 million a year for someone slightly better. I know we stopped talking about this long ago, but I just startedreading from the beginning. The problem with Jim saying this is that he looks like an idiot to his peers and will make them think they van take advantage of it. I was just about to say, if I were Reagins I would call Jim right after reading this to see what I could get for Willits.
  23. Whoops. I guess I did miss Marquis. But, I tend to skim over anything Marquis anyway. It's my way of pretending like he was never a Cub. Also getting rid of Prior. Its just as feasible as Matsui and Fukudome.
