  1. Actually, he started out poorly, but promptly turned around and put up significantly better numbers in AA. 3-3, 6 GS, 3.41 ERA, 34.1 IP, 8 HR, 20/9 K/BB, .250 BAA Based on those numbers, I wouldn't say he stank. Those are pretty good numbers for a 22 year old in AA. Sadly his GO-AO and HR numbers tanked at AA. 5.24 K/9 still not great. But yeah, I have him in my top 5. 202 BABIP as well.
  2. Last word on rotoworld was that he probably wouldn't be back by ST...and its not a torn MCL and a torn meniscus. And he had elbow surgery to remove loose bodies. Personally, I love to have loose bodies floating around me.
  3. That doesn't happen anymore, guy. That's exactly my point. I wouldn't pay ANYONE playing today that kind of money. I bet you'd pay zombie Ty Cobb that kinda scratch. ....perhaps...Cobb's best year v. A-Rod's best year. .420/.467/.620, 196 OPS+, 127rbi, 83sb >> .314/.422/.645, 177 OPS+, 156 rbi, 24 sb Why do you deify this old timey racist? If bizarre to say the least. I forget, how many outs do you get for saying the N word?
  4. In other news, Juan Pierre is the same player as Alfonso Soriano (w/ exception of power). Wow. Excellent comparison. Juan Pierre, who might fall into 1 HR a year and Alfonso Soriano who will typically hit 40+ HR to Cedeno who might hit 10-15 HR vs. Greene who will top out around 25 HR. Bravo. Way to go to an extreme to try to make somebody else look bad. U R awesome. Yeah, Jeff was moreso making a point than actually comparing the two. Read above.
  5. The only way it makes sense for the bosox is if they need to clear salary to keep Lowell.
  6. He gets a pass on that because they are obviously kindred spirits. In related news, Jim Hendry is changing his name to Jim Matsui.
  7. While I agree with most of what has been written by other posters, I'm convince that DLee will retire as a Cub, mostly because he is such a high-character guy. All together possible and it seems like he is an outstanding person from what I've heard and read. But, it is a business and you can't fall in love with a player either and if you get a chance to improve the team, you have to do it. If you want a bunch of nice guys you will have another 100 years of not winning. Agreed 100% but I can say with certainty that if we dealt Lee I would miss him more than any other Cub I can remember. You just don't see anything coming out negative about him. ARam has the "hustle" thing (press + Fans) and the popular pitchers Wood and Prior have lost their luster due to injuries so yes, I can see a lot of people saying that about Lee. Except for that one incident, you know, throwing haymakers at Chris Young.
  8. I agree with you, however, I thought Gonzalez was going to be passed along to another team in the scenario therefore his actual value isn't important, his perceived value is. His strikeouts just don't come with enough walks for my liking in the upper levels. Lancaster definitely inflated his power, but at the same token hes 6'1" 170 so he has some filling out to do as he ages. For a 21 yr old 170 lb guy a 190 IsoP in the Southern league ain't too shabby (Pie had a 250 IsoP as a 20 yr old). I'm not a fan of really young guys who have a could good seasons in rookie and low A ball, but Gonzalez has proved it at more advanced levels. His stike strike out and walk rate are going to limit him if he doesn't improve. The comparison to Pie is a good one.
  9. Now if only Kaz could put up a 29.3 VORP like Okajima.
  10. sadly there are a few who are worse Wayne Krivsky and Ned Coletti say hello. Brian Sabean says WAZZZZZZZZZUUUUUUUUUUPPPPPPP
  11. Lots of teams make plenty of money, but don't put it towards payroll.
  12. I strongly declare that Shapiro needs to trade Peralta to the Cubs. Does that help? I meant that I read the quote...
  13. Like someone else said, I don't think the Dodgers are all that eager to deal Furcal (or as eager as they should be). But even if you take Cedeno and Furcal out of that equation, its still a big win for the cubs. They might like the flexibility of Dempster to either start or relieve (Myers). They've been desperate to get rid of Burrell in the past, but I wonder how they feel now that they traded Bourn and Rowand isn't going to be resigned. Its definitely an interesting scenario to play with, though.
  14. .659 career home OPS .849 career away OPS he swings at too much and doesn't draw enough walks, but he's still a mile better than any of the trash that we have available at SS. I agree. He just doesn't bring to the table what this team needs. Also, its best to adjust his home stats, rather than just throw them away. this team needs something from SS though, and that's probably the biggest need. I absolutely agree. But given our pitchers we don't need too strong of a defensive shortstop and given our offense we need a powerful and patient addition...hmmm I wonder who fits that bill.
  15. .659 career home OPS .849 career away OPS he swings at too much and doesn't draw enough walks, but he's still a mile better than any of the trash that we have available at SS. He might not be available, either. But upgrading SS is where I believe we can get the most bang for the buck. Even a marginally decent SS, like Alex Gonzalez from the Reds, is a huge step up from Theriot. Sometimes you can't get a superstar, but our SS production was so bad that we don't need a superstar to make upgrading worthwhile. I'd love to get Jhonny Peralta. Asdrubal Cabrera is SS and Cleveland needs to get Josh Barfield back on track at 2b. We just need to find what Cleveland needs to rid themselves of Peralta. I read that Shapiro strongly declared that Jhonny Peralta was going to be their SS in 2008.
  16. .659 career home OPS .849 career away OPS he swings at too much and doesn't draw enough walks, but he's still a mile better than any of the trash that we have available at SS. I agree. He just doesn't bring to the table what this team needs. Also, its best to adjust his home stats, rather than just throw them away.
  17. Using 2007 MLv: Theriot provided negative 17.8 runs Greene provided 0 runs Cabrera provided 2.6 runs Tejada provided 11.9 runs Greene would be fine if we had above average offensive production (especially OBP) and groundball pitchers, but we don't.
  18. Eh, if he sucks, they'll just play more Castro. Thats not too bad of a thing. The Castro signing was a good one.
  19. Jon Daniels for worst sabermetric GM EVER! Somewhere J.P. Riccardi is smiling.
  20. You might have the start of a decent 3-way trade: How about: 1. Cubs trade Marmol to the Dodgers for Eithier. 2. Dodgers trade Kemp, Broxton/Marmol, and Kershaw to the Orioles for Bedard. 3. Orioles trade Tejada to the Cubs for Cedeno, Marshall, Patterson, and Ohman. I think the dodgers are giving up too much in the bedard trade and the cubs arent giving up enough in the tejada trade. How about: 1. Cubs send Marmol, Gallagher, Cedeno, Ohman to the Orioles, Patterson and Murton to Dodgers 2. Dodgers send Kemp and Kershaw to the Orioles, Ethier to the Cubs 3. Orioles send Tejada to the Cubs, Bedard to the Dodgers More reason to go after Ethier...
  21. I don't get it. His trade value is only that which people will give up for you. Whether you think he's worth something or not, his actual trade value is only the best package you can get. The way I read it, Baltimore didn't realize what they had with Bedard until they saw the talent that teams were willing to give up to get him. Now that they know what teams are willing to give up to get him, they want to sign him to an extension instead of trading him. I'd look at that the exact opposite. No team was able to match their demands, so they are exploring signing him to an extention.
  22. If we are sending 2 of Pie, Gonzalez, and Murton...its going to be Pie and Gonzalez we are going to send. And Cedeno, Marshall, plus pitching is going to have to also include Marmol and Gallagher. Gonzalez, Pie, Marmol, Gallagher, Cedeno, Marshall, Samardzija, Hart might be a starting point. Of course, then we have traded away much of our farm system/young talent for two years of Bedard/Tejada while adding about $35M/year to the payroll. Why don't we just keep Hill, trade a package centered around Marmol, Patterson, others for Tejada, and sign Fukudome?
  23. If ERA is a poor predictor, then how is ERA+ not?
