  1. But that doesn't matter to the Cubs because they set their ticket prices and are going to sell out regardless. They explained their decision as a way to be "fair" to fans and if you define fans as anyone who is willing to go to a game at Wrigley then sure its fair. But it ain't fair to those of us that bleed the Cubs. Buy season tickets. I will when I'm offered the opportunity to purchase them Buy them from someone who already has them. If you come up with enough money, someone will sell. If you were a true fan, this wouldn't be a problem. If you can't discern the difference between taking a day off of work to do the VWR and shelling out well into 5 figures, then I don't know what to tell you.
  2. If Simers is honestly saying that Colletti is the best GM, then this article is the worst thing I've ever read. If Simers is writing in jest that Colletti is the best GM, then this article is the second worst thing I've ever read. Broken sentences, non-sensical made up quoting, this article pretty much has it all. FJM would have a field day with this one...(hold for me to go over to FJM) Nevermind, they already have it up there and they are just as confused as I am. http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-simers3-2008sep03,0,903557.column
  3. You shouldn't have a problem with that. Now if you filled it out for you and used twiggy@aol.com and filled it out for her and used twiggy@yahoo.com you might get it DQed.
  4. Or not. What Valverde does is no different than what Zambrano does. Zero percent different. Actually, as Mojo stated, what Valverde does is actually more appropriate than what Z does. Valverde does it after the game is over when his team wins, Z does it in the middle of games when he gets out of a rough inning. I think its completely fine after a game and pretty tacky to do during a game.
  5. I got 2 games last year too...unfortunately the cubs never made it to those games. Now theres no way I'll get them this year. Anger. Anger. Anger. Its not fairness. If fans are willing to devote their time to going through a vwr, then they should get rewarded with tickets. Not this effen commie lottery BS.
  6. Hmm, lets see, 43rd best FIP, 30 teams, so according to my math, that would put him in the top half of #2s.
  7. I've been on that rooftop, its a good view. A bit further away than some of the others because its more in CF, but for the most part a rooftop is a rooftop is a rooftop.
  8. I'm going to New Orleans, golfing, and then to see Georgia @ LSU October 23-26th. I can't believe I may be skipping a very expensive trip to Louisiana. What the hell? When did you plan this? Every year me and some guys I work with travel somewhere for a long weekend of drinking, golfing, drinking, college football, and drinking. And as I finished typing this, I got an email saying that the trip was cancelled.

  11. I posted this in the other thread, but its more appropriate here... Even if every series goes the max, we can go with a 3 man rotation of Z, Harden, Dempster until the WS only having to go with Z once on 3 days rest (game 4 of first series) and Dempster once on 3 days rest (game 4 of second series). The only time we'd have to pitch Lilly would be game 4 of the WS.

Currently, heres the schedule: Oct. 1: Game 1 of both NL series; Game 1 of AL series between two division champions Oct. 2: Game 2 of both NL series; Game 1 of AL series Oct. 3: Game 2 of both AL series Oct. 4: Game 3 of both NL series Oct. 5: Game 4 of both NL series; Game 3 of both AL series Oct. 6: Game 4 of both AL series Oct. 7: Game 5 of both NL series Oct. 8: Game 5 of both AL series Oct. 9: NLCS Game 1 Oct. 10: NLCS Game 2; ALCS Game 1 Oct. 11: ALCS Game 2 Oct. 12: NLCS Game 3 Oct. 13: NLCS Game 4; ALCS Game 3 Oct. 14: ALCS Game 4 Oct. 15: NLCS Game 5 Oct. 16: ALCS Game 5 Oct. 17: NLCS Game 6 Oct. 18: NLCS Game 7; ALCS Game 6 Oct. 19: ALCS Game 7 Oct. 22: World Series Game 1 Oct. 23: World Series Game 2 Oct. 25: World Series Game 3 Oct. 26: World Series Game 4 Oct. 27: World Series Game 5 Oct. 29: World Series Game 6 Oct. 30: World Series Game 7

  14. I guess with Milwaukee losing Sheets and Sabathia, bringing back the same team should put us in a fine position to take the division again next year, but I'd prefer we significantly upgrade so we don't have to rely on repeated career years by Dempster, Theriot, CF, and Wood's shoulder.
  15. He waited another 45 minutes to go to piss? He obviously did not have to go that urgently. If I were him I would have broken into new Yankee stadium, found the front office and pissed all over the place. That guys a wiener.
  16. I wonder if Detroit would want to move their RF? I have seen Magglio's name mentioned as a possible trade candidate because of his salary and the Tiger's pitching woes. I only focused on FA's but if we expand it to possible trade targets, Maggs, Holliday, Hawpe, and Beltran fall into the discussion. I purposefully left Ibanez out of the original FA list, but for completeness you can count him in too.
  17. if anyone was against a burrell trade before, they shouldn't be after this Double slash stats Player A: 2005: 389/504 2006: 383/502 2007: 400/502 2008: 378/533 Player B 2005: 387/540 2006: 354/490 2007: 386/554 2008: 387/521
  18. I think this team needs to move Kosuke over to CF and acquire a RF slugger. We can't count on Theriot repeating this year (BA driven production tends to fluctuate), the CF rabbit that we pulled out of a hat ain't gonna happen again next year. We don't NEED more offense, but with our glut in the rotation, we can upgrade somewhere. My wishlist in this order: Chipper: Still an amazing amazing hitter posting well over 400 wOBAs. Health is a concern. Rumblings are he might be too expensive for the Braves next year and he wants to play for a winner, not a rebuilding team. Could we convince him to move back to the OF? Hes probably not looking for a long term contract. Manny: A step behind Chipper at the plate. Bad defensively, but not as bad as everyone thinks. We'd have to deal with Manny being Manny and he'd want boku bucks for a longer term. Dunn: A step behind Manny at the plate and maybe even defensively, but hes a lefty. Hes by far the youngest desireable FA of the group. Underrated by most of baseball, will probably want long term expensive contract. Burrell: Quietly pretty close to Dunn offensively and unfortunately defensively. Honky Carlos Lee? Giles: Awesome outside of Petco. Would be the cheapest and require the shortest contract. But has blocked trades out of SD before. Would he retire if SD buys him out? Abreu: Currently performing what we hoped Fukudome would do. Defense has slipped. Won't require a lot of years, but will be expensive.
  19. Marquis won't be the only started moved. I believe Lilly will also be dealt (Yankees, perhaps?). This way Shark replaces Marquis, and Hill or Marshall battles it out to replace Lilly. This would be a disaster waiting to happen. Why downgrade a very big strength for two very unknowns. Not to mention you have already weakened the pen by taking Samardzija out. If you want to let people battle for #5 that's fine, but not 4 and 5. There is zero reason to trade Lilly unless you resign Dempster and bring in CC. Possibly money. Lilly is due for a 5M raise next year.
  20. Unions acting irrationally and against their own best interests? NO WAY!!!
  21. IBL and thats the first thing he's been right about since....well ever.
  22. Gotta love the Cubs. This kids an amazing fielding SS? Wait, wait, wait! He caught one game when he was 11? Holy Jesus give him a chest guard. Can you imagine how good this kid could be if he could concentrate on hitting instead of being converted to the hardest position to play?
  23. He's a streetwise selling version of Giles.
  24. It really depends on if we completely fail in the offseason. We should look to get a good bat for RF, move Kosuke to CF and be set. We should also move Pie, But I have a feeling we might to the latter and not the former which would mean the team might just be dumb enough to resign Edmonds. Has Edmonds been great since he joined the team? Absolutely. Should we expect him to to Cubs Edmonds next year and not SD/end of STL Edmonds? Absolutely not.
