  1. McCann has infinity as many stolen bases.
  2. Did I miss something with Gaudin and alcohol? You have to read between the lines. I've also inferred that "fell against a dumpster" means "got his ass beat by a redneck". Guess I should've read the whole blurb. Fell into a dumpster while out after a game... that's awesome. "Against" and "into" are completely different words when talking about falling and a dumpster.
  3. Which made no sense to me whatsoever. Why can't he come back in a week and a half and be in the playoffs? Why not two weeks? Why would they set some sort of arbitrary one week cut-off date? Well I assume there comes a point where he needs to get some innings before hes fully and completely ready for the playoffs.
  4. is there an inside joke i'm not getting or is this just a case of mistaken capitalization? base on balls Howry? Although he doesn't really walk anyone.
  5. Hmm, I thought it was going to be that guy they were conveting to second base.
  6. I think they still have a fighting chance at the wild card next year even without Sabathia and Sheets. Gallardo, Parra, Bush, Suppan, and Villanueva aren't a terrible rotation. Rumors are they might trade Prince for some top line SP. With the rest of the NL Central stinking and the East and West up for grabs its definitely not out of the realm of possibility that they could contend for the wild card again
  7. What are their current chances of making the playoffs? Before tonight it was 73.2%. September 1st it was 94.6%. Its going to go up significantly (like 7%) after tonight though with them winning and the Cards and Phils losing.
  8. guess what other team has been sucking lately
  9. Are they applying to law school at U of M?
  10. maybe 70, honestly. a 120 pound closer with a violent delivery and numbers trending the wrong way? where do i sign? I would agree with the 7 not 70...The guys numbers might be getting worse, but getting 55 saves means your doing something right. Saves are the new RBI
  11. Joke? No. Hes about to set the saves record DESPITE the fact that his peripherals have gone down the Howryer (relatively speaking, of course). Edit: Hes improved the last couple months. Possibly his issues at the beginning of the year were due to his ankle. Still though, hes allowed too many baserunners to be at the top level of closers.
  12. Not to mention that K-Rod isn't even an elite closer anymore.
  13. I think, at the very least, another spot start for Marshall against Houston so they can throw Dempster, Lilly and Harden against Mil. is pretty smart and hopefully likely. 9/13 and then Zambrano on 9/14 makes sense in a lot of ways. Lilly twice against Milwaukee? DUMB
  14. How 'bout wOBA? DeRo=375 Roberts=359
  15. Its pretty close depending on what playoff odds you look at.
  16. All the games for a particular series go on sale at the same time. All the lottery is is a chance for you to get to the vwr. Just like regular season tickets, once you get through the vwr you can select any game to get tickets to.
  17. So if we could get proof that there were 45k+ Cubs fans who were better fans than you, you'd willingly give up your seat if you had one? Call the dogs off man, the true fan discussion dead. Dead. Over. No need to follow me around and create more ridiculous scenarios in your mind based off my most recent unrelated post. Also Elk Grove doesn't even have a hockey team so it was a ridiculous comparison to make in the first place. :D
  18. Its definitely a possibility. And I think the other really really important point that either Navin or Jon brought up is that this all really depends on how the cubs conduct the lottery. If they do it like the premium seats where they probably allow one out of every two (possible hyperbole) people who enter the lottery to "win" the lottery, then it will not demonstratively hurt people who are willing to put forth more effort and sign up their entire family in the lottery. Basically, it would be pretty much the standard vwr where those who put forth more effort get rewarded and that would be fine by me.
  19. I'll come out and admit that I wanted to buy tickets to as many games as possible and go to them with my friends. AND I'll come out and say that I don't think any less of Mizzou for trying to sell tickets.
  20. I can discern the convenience that the arbitrary line between "true fan" and "not a true fan" is between what the poster is willing and not willing to do. no no no. True fan = anyone who can't get tickets, Not True Fan = anyone else. ohh hahaha, snarky remarks about true fans and not true fans... Listen, I'm not judging anyone about being a true fan or not a true fan. I am just saying that those who work harder to get something should have a better chance of getting it. UPDATE: Sitting at a computer with 100 open VWR windows =/= "work" UPDATE: You can't read. I said "work harder". I'm not saying that the VWR is hard work. I'm saying its harder work than a lottery. People who are more devoted (whether that be to the cubs or selling on the secondary market or whatever, I'm not using the phrase "true fan" because it doesn't apply), have better odds of getting tickets with the vwr than with the lottery. Is that really such a hard concept to understand?
  21. A "fair" compromise would be to still use the VWR, but limit it to 1 game/2 tickets. People who really want to get tickets will at least get to see 1 game and more different people will be able to go. At least then you still have some control of your destiny. I don't need to get 20 tickets to every game, but I'd like to have a fighting chance to go to at least one, and with the lottery, no matter what I do, I really don't.
  22. I can discern the convenience that the arbitrary line between "true fan" and "not a true fan" is between what the poster is willing and not willing to do. no no no. 23. If you don't think the brokers and scalpers know the VWR trick then you are the most naive person in the world. I take off the day of work when the regular season tickets go on sale and coordinate with a half dozen or so friends to get tickets. We pretty much get tickets to most of the games we want to go to. Am I busting my balls hardcore to get tickets? Not really, but I do take the time to take the day off and coordinate schedules and keep in constant communication to make sure people are going after the right games and we get the right amount of tickets, etc. After I'm done with that I usually come here and get tickets for others. I did the same thing for the playoff tickets last year and even with the VWR, my friends and I only got tickets to one game in the NLDS and one in the NLCS, unfortunately the Cubs never made it to either one of those games. Obviously, demand is much much higher and supply is much much lower so even if you do take the time to do the VWR, you sure aren't guaranteed to see the Cubs in October. BUT, with the VWR, if you do work relatively hard and are committed, you are able to significantly increase your changes. I'm sorry, but my notion of fair is that if you work for something you should get rewarded, if you don't work for something you shouldn't get rewarded. Excuse me for not being a communist. And thats basically what the lottery is, communism.
